Hi Kingy & Mez, I too shatered a windscrean in our FC Holden on our way to Mt Gambier. Shannons had us underway in 20 hours, still don't know the cost as they had the windscrean sent from Sydney to Wagga overnight picked up the car and they looked after everthing. If it makes you feel a little better I was pulling out of a van park at Forbes a couple of months ago only to clip a tree branch and put the first dint on our "72" Vicount. After 37 years I dinted it. Jan was not happy! Bruce & Jan

Hi All, For many reasons I have sold our 1965 PIXIE. we now have a 1972 Vicount caravan. I have used it whilst working away from home and on tour. Yes there is a place for these vans as they are classic, however if the classic vans are displayed at a meeting with the vintage vans I feel thet they should be displayed in a group away from the vintage vans. I for one miss the fellowship with the VVers. Say next year at Coledale some of us bought our classic vans along, it should be understood that classic vans all park together at say the Northern end of the caravan park. I agree with Reddo that there are many classic vans still around, just like the one I own ant they are common. I for one would not like to mix classic and vintage vans side by side at public displays. Also I for one would love to attend Coledale with our classic. Just my thoughts

Oh dear! Word got around at the Cootamundra swap meet today that I was willing to sell the Pixe. I was using the van and the EH as a backdrop to a stall and the first thing to sell was the backdrop. So pixie has a new owner at Ingleburn (not to far from Coledale). The new owner has a EK wagon to tow her. So its Good Bye to pixie and the EH now has a campomatic trailor to tow. Not Vintage but we can still enjoy our EH or FC but towing a campervan. A big thank you to all the Vint vaners who I have met and may our paths cross again in this big land. Who knows we may buy a Vint van again one day, but for now its the convenience of a campervan. MMMmmm ....Did we do the right thing .......? Ah well on with life.......... Once again thanks for the great three years we had owning a Vint van. Take Care Bruce & Jan

Hi Neilancheryle We have had the misfortune to have to claim Shannons twice. Once for our modern car and once for a windscrean. Quote... Shannons were fantastic. On both occaisions we could not have asked for better service. We can recomend Shannons. ALL of our Insurance is now through Shannons. No we dont't work for Shannons, just feel they deserve a rap. Yep !!! I know where your all cumming from. But, what can we do other then keep what we can aford to buy, restore and later, look after it. I have a love of all forms of transport, trams buses ferries and of course classic cars and vintage vans. Now Trams are well reprsented at various museams around Australia. To a lesser extent buses are represented around the country, but still a hell of a lot have been lost. Ferries sadly not many have survived. Vintage and classic cars there are plenty. Now Vintage Vans.........They are now becomming more & more popular . I feel that a couple of cars and a vintage van are the most I can do to preserve some Aussie history other then possibly volantering at one of the many museams around Australia. So like you Daggsey when we travel I do think hard about our past but there is only so much one can do. Even you travelling around in your FC towing a vintage van reminds other Aussies that they have a fantastic touring past. So you are doing something right now. Seeing your car and van travelling through Young the other day made my day......A great sight..... Bruce & Jan

Our van is called Pixie.... As Pixie was on it when we bought it & I am told that the manufacturer was Pixie ? befor being taken over by another company. So I'm told....... I would love to know for sure if this is true..... I would never had called it Pixie by choice but the name was on it.

Hi The first thing I did with the Pixie was to have the coupling gear replaced by Camden caravans. I have had a van I was towing overtake me some 30 years ago & I have never forgotten it. Its a sickening feeling when it happens. I found that camden Caravans very helpfull even though these vintage vans can cause problems. When I took our van to be repaired one of the salesmen was reported to say "they don't want us to sell that"..he thought it was a trade in. The funny thing was, the van had to have a not for sale sign on it as they had many enquiries as what the price was. Even though the van was (is) old I have had no trouble getting work done on it. I am not at all handy. I took the remains of the water tank out. It was stuffed!!!! I will add a small plastic tank at a later time. Don,t need a water tank for displaying. The fridge holds the Beer & Diat Coke ;D Now for the frame, thats where the expert comes in.That I am not Hope all is well. Bruce .....FC Driver

MMmm I took our van to a caravan repairer (who we trusted), made sure it was safe to use (after bringing it from Victoria to N S W)...... But...anyway once safe I registered the Van, painted the inside, new curtains, new mattress and made the inside look good...well I think it looks good! Now we use it...but I have been lazy doing work on the outside. I will get around to it one day but I do enjoy the van as is. Kurnai....Enjoy your van Lay in it at home when it rains, doze in it on a Sunday afternoon, go on holidays in it.... Why do we do these things, Who Knows Why! Its affordable FUN in a world of stress. So I say make your van safe and enjoy whilst you restore at your leisure. Bruce

Good luck Cobber A simple Question to telstra.....No such thing.... ;D Telstra, Mmmm ...(my experience ) are a bunch of ratbags. However I think there was a change about 1964 ? I remember going to a phone box when I was young and I had to ring the PMG to find out what FA was in numbers as my grandmothers phone was FA7273 and they stopped putting letters on the dial. The old PMG ........I think there were some ratbags there also ;D. Bruce

Hi Dave Thanks for sharing your memories with us. Isn't it nice to look back. Your Dad was right , "in those days only rich people had caravans", well my dad said the same (so best we don't dissagree with our Dads). Yep Reddo is right "it is fun visiting the past (old fashon holidays)" I don't think most people do it enough these days (Including Me) Yet on a rainy day like to-day I sit here watching DVDs (about the past) on a wide screan TV, and we all keep in touch by way of this forum. A strange mix of the past and present. FC_Driver Bruce
