After many holdups (work related, amongst other things ) Daggsey & Carrots bauxite Valiant finally hit the road on Sunday 2nd March for the long-awaited circumnavigation of Oz via Mt Gambier. Only 2 months late, but what the heck First port of call was Albany for a few days to iron out a few bugs with auto electrics in van and have some helper springs fitted to the Effacy. Amazing what can be achieved in a bigger regional centre in a short amount of time. Highlight of the Albany stopover was watching the QE2 entering and docking at the Albany wharf (other than Fremantle, this is the last visit of the QE2 to Australia before she sails to Dubai). I will post photos as we go. Daggsey

Lady Madonna & Effacy made it to Eucla today without any hiccups. Only 13 or 1400kms to go to the Mount, (and we're still in WA ). Dearest fuel so far $1.93 (premium) at Madura. Pleasantly surprised as I expected to pay $2 plus per litre. $1.62 at Mundrabilla and Eucla. Must be getting close to civilisation as mobile phones, internet connection and electric wireless work here in Eucla. 1968 Waeco fridge is working a treat with ice cubes and cold alcoholic beverages waiting after a hot days drive ;D Daggsey

gday Daggsey & Carrots,
That Queenscliffe is a beaut spot, there is a big old pub in town, can't remeber the name of it, but iis three stories tall and beautiful (looks more like an old motel). If you go there for a beer, see if the publican will let you take a look downstairs - its like old dungeons down in the cellar real creepy. Weather in vic is supposed to be fina and sunny by saturday, so enjoy it!!
Don't forget to look us up if you have time and get down near Gippsland, I will PM you my contact number.
Cheers,
gristy

Hi guys,
I'm sure you're aware already, but make a point of going through Lakes Entrance. If the weather is fine, the view of the town as you come over the hill and look out to sea is amazing. Just be careful going down the hill...

Thanks minicamper for the tip, especially the steep descent into Lakes Entrance. We're currently camped at Paynesville on the west side of the lakes

G'day Will & Lyn,
The caryard photos above were next to a Shell roadhouse in Rosedale.....on the right-hand side of the road heading east. The roadhouse looked like it had been there for a while, with plenty of dead cars and trucks around it.
Unfortunately we have passed Yinnar, although I can see on the map that it isn't all that far from Gristy

Having a sojourn at Kingy's (thanks Steve & Mary Ann ;D ;D) in Moruya..........this south coast of NSW is absolutely stunning......and definitely worth seeing. Decided not to travel to Canberra just yet until the Olympic Flame thing and Anzac Day was out of the way and there was not as much security . Got a bit excited about the caryard at Rosedale ;D and posted a little bit out of sequence. Prior to that was the trip to Phillip Island Of course a visit to the Holden Proving Ground is a requirement for any red-blooded male (where security is so tight you're not even supposed to take photos )...don't really know what they've got to prove..they do it on the race track ;D ;D: Then meandered through Mirboo North and found these murals (pity about the Powerade add : then on to Gristys at Traralgon who put us to the old gold mining town of Walhalla: and found a couple of old caravans as per another thread: worth visiting in Walhalla is the cemetery on the side of the hill: at Paynesville, we saw more black swans then on the Swan River : then on to Orbost (on the Snowy River): From Orbost, a day trip to Buchan (Caves)...well worth a visit: finally made it to NSW/Vic border after calling in to Mallacoota: More to follow soon............. ;D ;D

;DKingy spotted my avatar which said we were at Broulee Beach.....10 minutes from Moruya ;D. An invitation back for coffee and we're still here ;D ;D a week later! Will head up the mountain to Canberra and out to Young this week. Decided that last week with the Olympic Flame and all the security, Canberra would not be a good place to be . Long weekends and end of school holidays make travelling a bit of a nightmare also . Some photos from Moruya are on other threads, but this is a summary of last week: Much discussion & comparing notes on our arrival...... Our allotted campsite for the week...... A day trip to Araluen.......60kms northwest of Moruya following the Deua River into the mountains of the Deua National Park..... road not recommended for caravans..... not a pretty sight ............ history of Araluen........ jewell in the crown of Araluen ;D...... a well-earned thirst after a hard Sunday's drive ;D ;D....... More adventure to follow ;D Daggsey

Finally left Kingy's in Moruya and headed to Publicservantsville. The trip up the Clyde Mountain was daunting, but "Effacy" did it with relative ease. ;D ;D. What a beautiful spot Nelligen is...I can see why you eastern states v.vanners have stayed there before.. i89.photobucket.com/albums/k228/daggsey/LorrainesNelligen-ClydeMountain003.jpg[/IMG]then into the beautiful historic towns of Braidwood...... and Bungendore.......(afternoon tea in the cemetry ) the autumn colours are really starting to show now......... cruised onto Queanbeyan and Publicservantsville........ welcome to Canberra....... stayed at the camping area at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC)...doesn't everything have an acronym in Canberra? ...home of the Summernats..... lots to see in Canberra......National Museum.... Old Parliament House....... Prime Minister Daggsey... Looking for a tax haven.......... "Lady Madonna" goes international (good old Japanese tourists ;D) [ IMG] the War Memorial is absolutely stunning....definitely not to be missed.... caught up with signwriter mate Peter Fitzpatrick.....was sworn to secrecy not to show any photos of his award-winning FC which he is totally re-building.... left Kevin-oh-seven-ville for Yass and Boorowa, heading for Young & Cowra.......what a great caravan park at Boorowa ;D ;D... Sorry about the quantity of photos, but there is so much to see out there....... the journey continues...... Daggsey

Hi Guys Carrots and Daggsey appear to have "fell off the radar". The reddo -o-tel wood-o-matic bondwood detector is useless in these situations However...... Your fears are over.. Reddotel has recently come up with a new "Aluminium chip" that has been added to the wood-o-matic. ( see post "Smells like aluminium" in granpa reddos corner). This new chip is in its early stages of development and i had a chance early this morning to give it a whirl and see if i could pick up anu Bauxite in the neighbourhood. The 2 double A batterys only give it a range of abpot 100 metres so the search zone was very limited... Here is todays find..... Incredible... right here in the middle of Bondwood central. strong winds and tidal movement has uneathed this rare find... we call it"The daggsey and carrots- Lady Madonna mother load". The Truth... ya want the truth Ok They arrived yesterday arvo. we knocked over a few beers. had a feed of prawns and then retired to the campfire for a few more drinks. Finished the night off by emptying a good bottle of Tyrells Port. Life is good at Reddoville. We are off to Munmorah today. Had a few light showers overnight but are predicting 22 deg later on ... cold change on sunday... So our intrepid travellers are in bad hands.. be afraid.. be very afraid ;D ;D ;D Gotta go and spray the yard for bauxite bug.. see yas Reddo
