Ok you guys . Life after Eddy EK has been dang right miserable.
I have looked at some wide and varied replacements in the past month or so.
Travelled north to Lismore and checked out the purple top chop FJ ute
warmed to the idea of cruisin around in caspers white Pontiac hearse. a beautiful big tow car but a bit too big for an everyday driver. Almost bought a 2 door pillarless 1963 rambler coupe. nice car but again talked myself out of it ... left hand drive.
Why heck i even slid behind the wheel of a F#@d XM ute with 302 windsor. seat was like sitting on a bag of hungry ferrets. wasnt much quicker than a 186 in good tune.
Went to sydney and checked out an FJ sedan with 186 trimatic. drove ok but the punter and i pulled up $1000 apart on the price... so waved good bye and dri=ove over to Bondi to check out a HR Ute. was only there 5 minutes and was confronted by a bunch of yobbo pommy backpackers. ended up near punching the loudest one and my son and the owner of the ute nearly joined in and cleaned up the rest of the clowns. they eventually dragged the drunken dill away for an early morning dip at the beach to sober him up.
The HR was a dud so we bid the owner gooday and drove back to Newcastle.
I finally got a chance to check out a ute i had been told about 3 months ago at Maitland. so off i went and done the deal
Hear ya go.....
Rego papers say HD. Has 16" X 7" Commodore wheels fitted to adaptors on the standard HR stud pattern. Disc brake front end.
retrimmed interior and bench seat, 4 speed M20
Warm 186 with triple CD strommbergs ... On Gas
Slight crease in the tailgate and wait for it.........No towbar ..... oooooo bugger
Very tidy car but........
Me being me i just felt i needed something a few years older for a respectable tow car..
Soooooooooooo ... with the tour coming up, then coledale, then Mt Gambier, FE/FC Nationals in MT Gambier at the same time as well as the 2008 Panel Van Nationals i figured i better shop for a..................
Fe Panno
Sorry thats all the pichas ive got so far.
Van has 202 / 4 speed/ HR disc front/ HK dual circuit brakes/bucket seats/ standard wheels with original FE hub caps and torana dress rims. i managed to get a towbar and fit it tisarvo .
Tried fitting the 16s off the HR but didnt get anywhere near fitting them under the guards.( yes i did stick the dragways on the ute as shown in the pix.. short term while trying the 16s on the FE) I have 3 sets of 13" dragways with varying offsets but none fit comfortably under the car. Dont want to hack the guards or wheel arches. Will shop for a set of old tasman 13" X 6" mags to pretty her up a bit. Small ammount of rust to chase out. might try and have it cut out before the tour.. dont care if i dont. will get to it one day. More important to get it tuned and sort out the usual ratsnest of wiring up under the dash.
More pix of the van when i get a chance
Now what am i gunna do with the ute
