Hi All I echo Kingy's remarks. For the record Clyde Mountain is the main road between Canberra & the Coast. Yes it is a very busy road but as Reddo said our forfathers travelled this road with their vans in the 50s & 60s etc. True reddo driven carefully, very carefully all should be well. Two or three stops on the way down should be enough to cool down brakes. There is one section where I used to stop just to check all was well when towing a van which I think is a must (even though I had dick brakes on the ford). Whilst checking the smell of hot breaks of passing cars was present. So with a little planing (planed stoping points) and possible a modern car on hand to take a couple of vans down for those who don't trust their drum breaks all should be OK. Not much to see between Goulburn & Braidwood so Goulburn to Nelligen with a walk around Braidwood on the way through would be a great day. If I went on the trip seeing as I live close by I would start at Nelligen, after delivering my van from Bargo via Clyde Mountain with the Ford Falcon. I could have the Falcon on hand to bring a couple of others down if needed, go home pick up either the FC or EH return to Nelligan later that evening. Taking vans down Clyde Mountain (with respect to the grade) in a modern car is done over & over again every day. On Boxing Day each year its caravan ally from Canberra. So, a couple of pre planed stopping spots, care, no rushing on the way all should be well. Keeping in mind that we all have to get down there at one point this may be the one. I would be prepared to travel the road well befor hand (taking notes) & supply a mud map so everone knows exactley where and when to expect to be able to pull over. So if all are happy plan away Reddo.......Via Clyde Mountain. Bruce

Hi All After 10 years driving buses in and around the Southern Highlands I can tell you all that Jambaroo is a No No. Clyde Mountain is possible with care taken & you all would be rewarded with a great stopover at Nellingen ( Pub opposite on the river good little general store) & Batemans Bay close by. Down the pass from Robertson to Albian Park although steep & narrow at the top does have a few rest points ( enough room to pull over ). Via Kangaroo Valley once down you have to climb back up the top again (Cambewarra) only to go down hill towards Nowra. As much as possible I believe the best way down the Coast is via Wilton to Wollongong via Mt Keria Don,t forget the Bradman Museam at Bowral, plenty of parking with vans also travel via Berrima as its very popular. But the biggest thing is the trip down one of the passes. I can help to take a couple of vans down with our Falcon if that would help anyone. So maybe if there were a couple of modern cars in the group that may help. Just a thought. A lot to think about for all. Bruce

Ah Yes, A great weekend. From the moment we arrived there were friendly fellow vintage vaners on hand to make us welcome. This was the first time we have used the little Pixie. Parked next to chippydave his van made the Pixie look tiny. Will & Lyn were great........Thankyou.... Who would forget Reddo proposing with a milk create on his head (you had to be there to understand it)...Thanks Reddo.. Saturday night meal was great value & enjoyed by all. Then on Sunday the visiting car clubs filled the roadway. It was vintage vans, vintage cars with lots of happy people. All this by the sea, yes it was COLD on Saturday & rainy at times but what a great weekend. FC Driver

Hi Yah All, Just thinking if the vintage van nationals were to be held at the same time as the FC Nationals at Mt gambier some of us could offer our vans for a photo shoot with some of the FCs & FEs behind their cars. Never know this may help them (fe & fc owners) to take an interest in vit vans & preserve one for themselves. I know not all vin vaners would like to see their vans photographed with someone else's car but for those that don't mind this could quite possibly be arranged. ....Or is this a silly idea?.... Also if Will & Lyn are in attendance the S A fe fc car club could hire Will & Lyn for their dinner night. After seeing Will & Lyn in action, helped by Reddo I am sure their professional showmanship would be a great choice. Hint Hint to the organizers in S A ...(hope I'm not out of order) Vintage vans old Holdens and many other old cars running around, now just add Rock & Roll....Mt Gambier will Rock. I for one have allready done my leave application for 2008. So many good things to look forward to !!!!! Isn't it great to have old vans & old cars....and to top it off a wife who at times finds it hard to understnd vint vans but is prepared to have a go at it with me. Better go I'm getting carried away... Bruce ....fcdriver

Hi Kaybee, The idea deserves looking at. Just my thought. The question is..How many of us are there for the FE FC nationals? ....Definatly not the majority!!! Whilst I will be there for the FCs 50th I can,t see any trouble running the two events together. Keeping in mind we are only a group of private people who relax and do our own thing. I have no trouble either way. There may be one night that the dinner may clash, but this is no concern to most of the V Vers. Over to the you fellow V Vaners. Bruce

Hi All, Time to bite the bullet!!! Our pixie van is progressing at a reasonable pace and all looks well now to book for Coledale. The inside painting etc etc etc....is nearing the end. Now we won,t have all the restoration done but the old girl is looking quite good. Now its time to register the van & fit the EH Holden out for towing. We decided to use the EH for a tow car as the FC is now on historic plates. So I will book with Norm shortly. Fcdriver

A big thankyou to all at Coledale yesterday. I was a visitor to your event & we did enjoy the day. Befor leaving we just stood on top of the hill looking down at the sea, pine trees, pre 1964 cars & those lovely restored vans. I have been to many transport museums all over the world but that was like going back into time (very strange feeling)....... Yes for a while I was in 1964......... Thank you all for creating a spectical for all who visited the beach that morning......Well worth the trip from our home at Cootamundra. Mr & Mrs FC_driver PS ....We coulden,t resist having a hamburger on the way home at a hamberger shop...Not McDonalds...as I didn,t want to leave that timewarp........I will pas the Photos around at our next Coota Car Club meeting ;D

Hi Kathryn Whilst in the UK visit a canal boat museam. The accomadation in these narrow boats are wonderfull. If you like vintage vaning, as you do, you will love the narow canal boats. The UK has so much to offer for anyone interested in the past. Now bringing a van from the UK, Mmmm.... It would be expensive.......But I have to admitt that English vans have something very very quaint . I once camped in the New Forrest & I couldn't help but to think about "Carry On Camping" as we explored the caravan park. Enjoy the UK & take your money with you !!!! The UK whilst fun cost the earth. Bye Bruce.

Hi Cobber I worked for the biggest Ratbag dept, ever The New South Wales Dept of railways. Strange thing though what I learnt there I still remember. They had a way to get things through to us. It is supprising how many Properts have now found owners who will restore and preserve these wonderfull vans. Where will it all end? So many old vans being set aside for restoration! A Aussie way of life for future generations to experiance. Bruce

Got me thinking now, Jan & myself went for a drive in our FC Holden on Sunday to Kurnell with the NSW Fe / Fc car club. We were driving along 50s 60s music playing and we realized that we were anoying other motorest. Although keeping up with the traffic everone wanted to pass us. A lot of people would look at us thinking "Silly old bastards" Well each to their own I say but an old car pulling a old van on the road would to some, well maybe to a lot of people be hard to understand. So while we here at this forum hate to see old vans being used in such a wastefull way I can see the enjoyment of others. Thats today's generation, old cars on the road are a inconvienence to some just like the caravan / car demolition darby is a great laugh. I personally want to hold on to a way of life gone but like JBJ I know we are a minority, yet thankfully a growing minority. Bruce

Hi All Have to say, We unfortunatly had a claim with Shannons for the EL Falcon. They were excellant.......easy to deal with. We have the FC & EH Holdens with them as well as the EL Falcon. However the Caravan and the BA Falcon are elsewhere. Bruce

Hi All Well here goes, Firstly I must accept that anyone has the right to use a generator . Its up to the Caravan Park. However we set up at Coledale on the Thursday morning. I then travelled to Mittagong to pick up our Grandsons. Upon returning in the afternoon two caravans had set up with generators humming away. I was...well lets say less then happy..... Thank goodness that Jude went out of her way to find me another site for the weekend as I was about to pack up & leave. Imagine spending a weekend at Coledale with so many wonderfull people & their lovely vans putting up with (#*!+&%) generators humming. As it turned out the generators were at the far end the park so most of us could get away from the anoying hum. Yes I know a generator was used elswhere in the park but I didn't hear it & at one stage I was very close to it. (So not all generators make such noise) Now, I did feel that the use of anoying generators wasn,t necessary at Coledale, but each of us have a different opinion I guess. So if generators do become a regular feature at Coldale could the noisey generators all be located to the far end of the park to hum away together. Lets say where the generators were last Coledale that they remain in that area in future as not to offend other vaners next time. I do believe generators have a place for all vaners but I ask, at a vintage van get together?...No not for my enjoyment. Whilst I hope not to upset anyone I do feel that this should be bought up so as next year there is no disapointment when one finds ones self located next to one of these humming boxes. Other than that what a great weekend. FC_Driver..............Cranky old barsted.......... ;D

Hi All, I went to the mail box today & guess what NO bills. ;D One Ferries Australia Magazine...great reading if you like old ferry boats. One Jan & Dean DVD, won on Ebay for 55c. Two fantastic calendars. ;D For the first time in my life I wish there were extra months in the year so we could get even more pics. Thanks for the extra pics on the side & the middle of the pages. I wonder if anyone would be interested in publishing a book. An ABC book full of pics of Aussie vans wouldn,t be out of place on sale at our ABC shops. What can I say other then lets make this an yearly event & next time we can have vint vans from all over Australia. Next year could we have the van which is at the Australian Museam Canberra on one of the pages as this van is on display 365 days a year. Now there is a van doing its bit for the vint van movement. Bruce....
