img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/mate/100_1228.jpg yesterday as a result of a “lead” from Motorfest 2007 a Propert Seq. # 244... you Propert experts can tell me what year that makes it please Needs a bit of love and attention to restore it to it’s former glory. cooker. The things I love about it already are the fact that it is registered until December 2007 .....the ease with which one person can open and shut it ...the overall weight of it and the weight on the tow ball, 33kg......ol’ 36 weighs 98kg at the tow ball The inside is lacking a water tank and a The question is :--- shall I restore it myself or pass it on to one of you young enthusiastic forum members to play with Still thinking about that, the roof will need replacing and some of the frame, maybe the sides too.....might be best to make up a whole new lid, or outer shell or what-ever you call it cooker. Hi Cobber me old mate. ;D ;D ;D Underneath all that flaking paint the old Propert doesnt look too bad, I like vans with their original rego. From a rough guess I would say that the van would be about a 57,58 but I could be wrong.
Cheers. Trodler.

A great save Cobber. I would agree with Trodler that she would be a 1958/9. Probably the last of the round windows going by that number. What a real bummer that Tom Propeet never shared the numbering/age system to anyone else. Even Departed Werner couldn't get him to explain it, when he was corresponding with him. Very original too. That lino has gotta stay! they didn't all have water tanks/cookers. Trodler, whilst talking Properts, do you still have a set of the stays available? Could you PM me with a price? Ray

Thanks for those 'educated guesses' as to the Properts age fellas.
I think a new home has been found for her......my daughter and son-in-law have said they would like to restore and use it, sounds reeeeaal good to me ;D ;D. They don't have a lot of spare time on their hands so we will see how it goes.
Cobber.

hi cobber so you have a new home for the propert. ;D ;D since the daughter and son-in-law don't have much time on their hands, does this mean that 'dear old dad' will probably do most of the restoration. if it's anything like most 'child/parent' relationships, i'm guessing that will be the case. good luck on the resto. geoff 'n jude. ps. congrats on becoming 'god almighty'. ;D

Hi Maurie & Clan, "GODS COUNTRY" is the correct title for our little piece of the world. ;D Andy & Layla haven't got a van yet , Layla loves your Doris & was very happy to hear she wasn't going to be trashed. She also likes Properts - so who knows what they will end up with. They both had a great time at Coledale, enjoyed meeting everyone & seeing all the vans etc. I am sure if everyone wanted them again next year they would be in, if not I think they will come down anyway. See you at Munmorrah Kisses to Doris and all Jude & Geoff

G'day Geoff 'n Jude 'n Ray, Yes...there is a potential problem there but my intentions are to be technical adviser and Restoration rules enforcer and quality controler......."dream on" I hear you saying Actually our daughter is pretty good at 'having a go' and restoring small things, like furniture, and the son-in-law is keen to 'give it a go', so we'll see 'how they go' Ray...the lino will be a bit of a challenge. Most of the coloured bits are individual pieces of lino stuck onto the backing, some of them have curled up on the edges. I am wondering... if the lino is sandwiched between two flat surfaces and pressed....maybe with the help of a bit of glue applied to the backing....will it straighten the lino out Do you know if any of the Properts on the forum have this type of lino still It is worth hanging onto if possible eh? Cobber.

Hey cobber I have a propert that has a ser no 5. 259 that came came with a sales brochure that I was told was original that features an xk ford and an ek holden. I always thought my propert was a 1962 model based on the previous owners info, then i recall a member joining mid last year that did one post and never returned and said they had a brochure and a propert in the high 220s or 230s that was a 1962 model .My one has the same window configuration with the dome rear and the small lift up power socket but has a fold out bed running down the left side looking in for a third person.Cheers Dave

Hi guys in no way do i profess to know anything on the propert numbering system but here is no 138 plate ,one thing i can tell you is the earlier plates have FU 2692 FOR THE PHONE NUMBER AND LATER ONES have 37 2692 for phone numbers but both my properts have patent 1952 which people assume is a 1952 model. Cheers Dave

G'day Dave,
The propert I have/had has the '37' phone pre-fix and as I have said ser. No. 244. Unless somebody knows..I will get in touch with Telstra---telecom---PMG and find out exactly when pre-fixes changed

Good luck Cobber A simple Question to telstra.....No such thing.... ;D Telstra, Mmmm ...(my experience ) are a bunch of ratbags. However I think there was a change about 1964 ? I remember going to a phone box when I was young and I had to ring the PMG to find out what FA was in numbers as my grandmothers phone was FA7273 and they stopped putting letters on the dial. The old PMG ........I think there were some ratbags there also ;D. Bruce

Hi Cobber Re your tiles in the propert. Why not soften them up with a heat gun on lowand then stick them down to a surface of hessian or similar. Perhaps even straight onto the floor or a masonite underlay like the pros do. I reckon the heat gun would do the job and then gluing which a good gripper glue like the shoemakers use. Ray
