Hi All The Caravan Park in Broken Hill has started refunding deposits to FORUM MEMBERS that have already cancelled The caravan park has also told me a few minutes ago another members from up Qld way rang and cancelled...would have been nice to have told the moderating team cheers f/f Hi F/F, That's great that the caravan park has started refunding deposits to those forum members that have cancelled. As for "another members from up Qld way rang and cancelled" it wasn't me. Not sure who it was and yes I'm sure it would have been nice for the moderating team to be informed - but perhaps you can contact them via PM to deal with that. Regards Di

Yes I think everyone has already hit the nail on the head.
Norm is a lovely man, a gent in so many ways and always looked after us Vint Vanners.
Let's hope we catch up with him on the road one day.

Best remove me from the list as I'm not prepared to pay and possibly lose a deposit on a 'maybe'. Penny_61. Quote from Firefighter Hi Penny 61 & Leigh
Thanks for letting us know you wont be attending the nats Not sure Penny 61 where you get the idea you wont receive your deposit back
Cheers f/f Hi F/F I’m not certain but would imagine that Penny 61 has read the Cancellation Policy info on Page 8 that you kindly found out for me - see below. Cancellation Policy Refunds are not given, unless the entire cancelled period can be re-booked without a break in the occupancy. All cancellations will be charged a $30.00 administration fee per site/cabin. To avoid any dissapointment we recommend that you take out the appropriate travel insurance.I haven’t actually spoken to Penny but do know from conversations with quite a few of the other forum members that they weren’t prepared to pay any money at all until they knew they were going to be a dead cert of attending. When you read the words "refunds are not given, unless the entire cancelled period can be re-booked without a break in the occupancy." We took that to mean that if I had booked the whole Friday to Sunday week i.e. 9 nights and then had to cancel and my replacement was only going to book in for the Monday to Friday i.e. 5 nights that I wouldn’t get my money back. So no doubt that would be why some people have still not paid any money. Regards Di

Hi all, We are now booked in and deposit paid. As for the catered dinner on the saturday night. If that's what everyone decides to do we will go along with the flow. Having said that I think anyone else would be very hard put to do camp ovens as well as we (as a group) can do them. So perhaps we are better off doing our own. I'm certain Paul will be more than happy to help with tending the fire. Regards Di

Hi All, I received a phone call a few weeks ago from Danielle Butler who is the President of the Organising Committee of the Blackall Heartland Festival for 2014. For those of you that don't know Blackall is north of Charleville and west of Emerald. The Blackall Heartland Festival is a 10 day event starting on 23rd May 2014. The theme for next year is "Take The Journey" hence they are hoping to attract numerous people with caravans. Note: she isn't particularly looking for vintage vans but just any vans. Danielle was going to send me an email with all the information but she hasn't. So if any of you are interested in finding out any additional information, you can look at the link below or contact Danielle direct on 0409 283 057. www.blackallheartlandfestival.com.au/I did mention that a lot of members would be away travelling to/from the Nationals in April and May and so she may not get a lot of interest. We won't be attending, so it's over to you to contact Danielle direct if you are interested. Regards Diane

Hi all, At Canungra I was the lucky recipient of 2 cushions made out of that caravan fabric (in the first photo) as a Christmas present. They were made lovingly for me by another forum member and I consider myself very lucky to have been given them. I think I recognise a couple of the vans on the material - they belong to forum members (or ex members). Now that the material is on sale, I should buy some more, so I can make tie backs for our next van. Regards Di

Hi Amanda,
I'm not certain where you are looking but I must have seen approx 100 Viscounts, Millards & Franklins in the last fortnight on ebay and gumtree pretty much all of which are in VIC.
The reason I have noticed so many, is that I am looking for another van without bunks and unfortunately I keep finding ones with bunks.
A lot of people don't know what brands they are selling so just search the word caravan and you will find heaps.
Regards Di

Hi Sue, No there was another group as well. Some of us got a mouthful from them early on (before you arrived) as they were wanting to park on the area where you and Dennis and Doug parked, then they moved to the power area where some of the Olympics and the Red FC parked. Finally after more complaints to us and a whinge at the caretaker - he suggested they park elsewhere. So yes we certainly had more than enough room for our VVanners but only because of the hassle that we went through to begin with in order to ensure that happened Regards Di

Hi Doug, Thanks for putting up some photos. Yes it was a great weekend. Sunny one minute, then stormy the next - but we still had fun. We had word before we went that another caravan group were going to be in attendance, but not only did the Caretakers double book us, they triple booked us. . You would think when booking a year in advance (and checking the booking a few times throughout the year), that everything would be good. Unfortunately I don't think they care - just want to get the money in !!!!!! It can turn out to be quite painful for those that arrive early in trying to keep enough space for all of us. It was great seeing everyone make an effort again with the fancy dress on Saturday night. ;D ;D . It was also a different outline with doing the crock pots and portable boom box. Personally I would prefer going back to the caterered meal and DJ for next year. It's not often that us ladies get a night off in the cooking department so it's a shame to miss out ;D ;D Many thanks to Banno for organising the event and to everyone else that had a hand in helping it run smoothly. Regards Di

Hi Simone,
Congratulations on receiving an Expandavan.
You have come to the right place to try and find out the correct information about it.
As you would have gathered Expandavan's were made as different types and different brands over quiet a few years.
Boblor is the guru on all things Olympic and Expandavan. He has an Expandavan which originally he thought was a Petersville but I think he later unearthed some additional history on the Expandavans which shows differently. I don't think he has had a chance to update the information on the forum as yet.
From what I understand the Fibreglass (exterior) Expandavans originally had timber interiors and then changed to Fibreglass interiors. Bob will know all the exact changes to the interiors, but I think there was the timber, then Mk1 and Mk2 of the Fibreglass and then the Fully Fibreglass.
I suggest that you take some photos of the interior and put them up on the forum. Also the chassis number should be welded into the A-frame. It is normally on the outside of the A-frame on the door side. Either take a photo of that or tell us what the chassis number is and we may be able to date the van for you.
My van is an early 1968 Expandavan with a timber interior. From your photos I notice a few differences between your van and mine.
I don't know of anyone in Brisbane that has an Expandavan, but I am up on the Sunshine Coast and Bob is near the NSW/QLD border.
Unfortunately we are unable to discuss prices on the open forum. But we have a Vintage Van event on next weekend at Canungra Showgrounds, so if you don't already have plans why don't you come along and bring your van. Bob and I will both be there and so we can have a look at your van and have a chat with you further.
Regards Diane

Wow Steve & Julie,
What a great looking van.
I saw it on ebay a few minutes after it was listed and thought to myself what a great van that would be for someone that has the time, energy and is capable of bringing it back to it's former glory.
Soooooooooooooo glad that you managed to get it.
Julie I bet you think that you've created a bit of a moster in Steve since seeing that first olympic !!!

Hi All, This is not really directly caravan related, but i'm sure you can live with it Most of you would realise that we raise funds at certain caravan events throughout the year for various charities. Well at Canungra we normally raise funds for the McGrath Foundation. Paul and I recently purchased a "Job Lot" of costume jewellery. We will be bringing all the items to Canungra to sell. The money raised will be given to the McGrath Foundation. Some of the items will make great Christmas presents. All going very cheap at either $1 or $2 each. There are necklaces, earrings, broaches, braclets & rings. I will set everything up on a table outside our van and just have a honesty box. Luv Di xx

Hi Kelvin, What a lovely looking little van. Following is the link to the Sunshine Caravans thread that we have in the Down History Lane section. It shows an old advert for Sunshine Vans as well as an example of the metal badge and some photos of other Sunshine Caravans. vintagecaravans.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=4189As Jim mentioned, we don't know of very many Sunshine Caravans around. His van is a great example of just how wonderful the Sunshine vans are. I'm not sure whereabouts you and your father are situated? I am up on the Sunshine Coast. Depending on where you are, I may be able to come over and have a look at the van and have a chat with you re: value etc. Unfortunately we are not supposed to discuss prices on the open forum. I have sent you a personal message, so when you log on next, look at the top of the page and written in blue will be the number of messages you have received. Click on the blue writing to to open the message. Regards Diane

Hi Archie, That will really depend on how you have the van set up i.e. wheels, tyres, tow bar, correct riding angle, power of car, how the content of the van are stored within the van, shape of van, sway bars or not, dolly wheel or not, how heavy the van is, what the roads are like etc etc. But to give you an example my little bondwood 10ft 4inch van can tow at 120km on the freeway without any trouble if required, but I don't normally push it that fast. When going down a hill one day. i've found that it starts to have a slight wobble at 125km. Regards Di

Hi Di, Thanks for your post. I am pleased to tell you that it's not you! Several other forum members have reported the same thing to me. Quite a number of the links in DHL are broken. The reason is that the URL (internet address) for the various links have been changed, and so when you click on the link it tries to take you to an address that no longer exists! But never fear, the threads still exist!! I'm not sure why the URL's have changed - maybe one of the mysteries of cyber-life, or may be a result of some maintenance by Proboards? Don't know. As the "caretaker of the museum" as I was once referred to, I plan to work my through all the links and update them where necessary. Don Ricardo Hi Richard, Thanks for your reply. Glad it's not just me. Hope your knee surgery goes well and that you are back to your best asap. Regards Di

Hi David,
Some of us may be able to help if you mention the following:-
What size you are looking for? Where you live? If you are prepared to buy one interstate and pay for transport? Whether you want one that will fit a sail trac or marconi clips etc? Or whether you are prepared to get it altered?
Regards Di

Hi Dale,
Good luck with the new business venture.
Previously being on the receiving end of help from your parents with regards to a caravan.
I'm sure that if your work standards are remotely close to yours parents then you will do a fantastic job.

Hi Di No worries! Sounds like you're keen for a rest this year! You've really done heaps the other years to keep it all together. There's plenty of other people available to organise, shift & move a few tables & chairs! That's the beauty of this group...everyone just pitches in & helps, even if they are sometimes a bit late! smiles Hi Cathie, I'm only having a laugh about the tables and chairs ;D ;D - I won't let Rob forget it As for a rest this year - yes sounds like a bit of a plan, I don't mind helping out, but don't want to organise the whole thing again, it's too much hassle. I for one am very glad that Banno offered to organise it last year (with Bob's help) and this year when no one else was prepared to do it. As you know everyone that was at the last 2 events were asked to volunteer to be the organiser but no one spoke up. So no doubt we would have all missed out on a great weekend away. Anyway only another few weeks to go, til we break out the sherry again !!!!! ;D ;D See you soon Luv Di
