Hi all, I've received a PM from a newbie. So just some clarification / explanation for any newbies reading this that may want to attend. Anyone is welcome to come along to Canungra. You don't actually have to book with the caretaker. (Just remember at some time over the weekend to pop over and see him and pay for the amount of nights/people you have with you). You just turn up on the weekend and find a spot to park your van, somewhere in amoungst the other vintage vans. (Note that there are other groups staying at Canungra that weekend). Then have a chat with those near where you are thinking of parking and check if they are saving any spots. Some of us that have been going for years sometimes try and park in the same spot as the previous year. ;D ;D But it's all very casual, we don't stand on ceremony. We are a fun crowd and have a lot of fun and laughs. So bring your sense of humour and you will fit in well ;D ;D Try and bring an extra electric lead and or power boards - as we have to piggy back off other vans or sometimes stretch a long way to the power. If you are bringing kids with you, then remember to bring a small present from Santa. Also bring a long an item each (or more if you want), to put on Ilse's Giveaway table. It's basically a chance to bring along anything (preferably with a Retro / Vintage / Caravan / Garage theme) that can be put on the table. We all get turns in picking from the table and taking something home to replace what you bought. A bit like recycling or getting things from charity shops but you don't need to spend any money. ;D ;D Regards Di

My only suggestion is that we put all the tables in the middle of the concrete area for dinner & Santa etc so that it is less spread out & more friendly) & that we move the dancing area out onto the wooden deck ( bit kinder than concrete to dance on & not such glaring light out there). Of course if it storms we can always move the action back under shelter. Wow Cathie, it sounds like you and Rob are offering to set up all the tables and chairs for us ;D ;D ;D Thanks soooooooo much I'll have to remember to remind Rob about the 1 hour time difference again this year

Hi All, Well Canungra is only a few weeks away now, so it's about time that we started a thread. Dates:- Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November. Place:- Canungra Sports & Recreation Ground (Showground) Coburg Road, Canungra, QLD No need to officially phone up and make a booking, just turn up and enjoy yourself. The large undercover area, tables and chairs have been booked again for the Saturday. Note: we will need to have a gold coin collection in order to pay for the hire/rental. Once that is paid, any additional funds will go towards the McGrath Foundation. In memory of Ilse, we will again be having the Giveaway Table. Please only donate good quality items, i.e. something that you would like to have yourself. Santa will be visiting the kiddies again, so make sure you have a secret santas gift for each child with their name written on it. This year the fancy dress theme for the Saturday Night is "Movie Characters/ TV Characters".So that gives you lots of choice. After discussions with attendees re: cost - the catered dinner and dj (as per last year) have been dropped. I understand that a couple of iPod/iPhone Boom boxes will be there to supply music for dancing. ;D So for food, everyone will just supply their own food (and drink) and we will all meet in the hall as normal to eat and celebrate together. That way you have lots of choice as to whether you want to do your own camp oven or cook a steak on the bbq or just have a quick meal i.e sausages in their blankets etc etc. Please note that there have been major fires in and around Canungra in the last week and the weather is hotting us, so we may end up having a total fire ban. So just keep in mind that camp ovens and bbq's may not be allowed. Note: You may want to bring additional extension leads and/or power boards as power isn't always easiliy reached Also I understand that Campervan & Motorhome Club of Australia members will also be at Canungra that weekend, so space might be a bit tight. Regards Di P.S. I've noticed that politics has started creeping back onto the forum again in recent weeks . It really isn't needed and all it does is make everyone feel uncomfortable. Therefore can I please ask for everyone to leave the politics at home i.e. let's all just go away for a relaxing and fun weekend and enjoy ourselves . Thank you.

Mark Taylor owns the forum ...and Mark has a plan where the 2016 nats will be held ........wasting your time posting any ideas on here about the 2016 nats cheers f/f ;D ;D ;D Hi all, Now let me start this by saying that I am NOT trying to stir the pot, but really feel as though I should say something. I know that we try to use the emoticons in order to soften the tone of words that are said on the forum. As I do realise that things are often read in a different tone to the way the we have typed it and so things are sometimes taken out of context. So let me say, that No I haven't been drinking and Yes I am typing this whilst completely calm and relaxed not at all annoyed I've noticed that it has been mentioned on various occasions over the years that Mark Taylor owns the forum. I'm not disputing that Mark set up the forum and no doubt owns the name and the forum site. I've met Mark on various occsions and get on well with him. But I must say that it also takes the various members and their individual personalities to keep the forum going on a day to day basis. ;D I'm personally very thankful that Mark did start up this forum as I have met and made numerous close friends in the 7 years that I have been a member. ;D ;D ;D For a great majority of the members that attend any of the Nationals, the 3, 4 or 5 weeks etc that they take for the trip - is quite often the largest holiday that they will have for that particular year. Therefore it is somewhat off putting and disconcerting to be told by Firefighter that we are wasting our time posting any ideas about where the nats will be held. It is human nature (as mature adults) to think that we might at least be able to make some suggestions as to where we might want to go on our largest trip for the year. I have planned numerous large events over the years (for between 1,500 and 3,000 people) and realise that there is an awful lot to be taken into consideration. But surely we don't want to put people's noses out of joint and put them off attending before we even start. Conti mentioned at Cowra that the next nationals would be held closer to QLD. Obviously that hasn't happened for 2014 - perhaps it will for 2016, who knows, whatever will be will be. But my point is that members (from all over the country) like to feel that they can at least make suggestions of various parks and that their suggestions may be taken on board and investigated further. Even if it does come down to Mark and/or Firefighter and the rest of the Mod Team making the final decision. Whatever happens, everyone will make a judgement call at the time as to whether they have the leave, the money, the right van, the where with all etc to attend. But it would be nice to feel as though we are included throughout the process and that decisions made don't come across as a dictatorship I've found throughout my life that with regard to the way that things are said to people - you get a lot more with sugar than vinegar !! Perhaps the various comments that I have written today will upset some people or put noses out of joint. Please note that isn't my intention at all My comments may even result in me being struck off the forum - hopefully that won't be the case. Besides the fact that I would miss everyone - I would love to make it to 1,000 posts ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I make these comments as I do hope that the forum continues to flourish and be a great medium for like minded people to get out and about in their fantastic vintage vans and have fun & enjoy life. Regards Di

Hi Di, We will however be holding another auction with proceeds going to a nominated charity. This was highly successful at Cowra, and a lot of fun . Maybe we could nominate you as the auctioneer ;D ;D Mark Hi Mark, Thanks for the offer but I would hate to take that job away from Geoff. He has done a fantastic job each time I have seen him be the auctioneer at Coledale and Cowra and I think that he would be a tough act to follow. ;D ;D ;D Also with me being such a quiet, shy and retiring person ;D ;D ;D, I don't think I could manage it. Regards Di

Interstate competitions may go against the "easy going" feel of the vc.com nats Mark Hi Mark, We have plenty of lighthearted fun and rivalry already i.e. the Billy Cart Racing at Coledale, the QLD/NSW State Of Origin threads, the various comments at events of Ford vs Holden and having a bit of a dig/fun if someones tow car regularly brakes down whilst towing their van etc etc. ;D ;D ;D ;D As you know I am originally from NSW (now based in QLD) and have travelled quite significantly through the other states and so am lucky enough to know a lot of the forum members personally. I noticed at Cowra last year that there appeared to be quite a bit of separation between members from the various states especially in the evenings. I therefore thought that an Interstate Cookoff (or something similar) would be a good way of getting the various groups together of an evening - it would also help any new members in getting to know more people. As we can't have fires - Koala's suggestion of Slow Cookers would equally be as good. Or we could have a night of Just Desserts - whereby people literarily just make a dessert and we all get together with a cuppa and share the desserts. Anyway it was just a thought/suggestion of a way to bridge the gap and give members another opportunity to meet other members. But it's your call !! Di

Hi Firefighter, I realise that you have put various Smiley Faces and winks etc into this post. But re: the inward mail from other members as well as your comments about vans, annex's, collectable etc and why would you have a fire. Are you and they really serious !!!!!! - Last time I checked the great majority of forum members are mature adults with life experience and resposibilities i.e. homes, families, boats, caravans, cars, etc etc. And they are all very capable of making mature decisions. I myself now have 3 vintage caravans and at no time have I or will I ever plan on setting a fire close enough to any of them (or anyone else's van for that matter) in order to cause any damage in any way. Also there would be more than enough people around to make sure things don't get out of hand. I understand (in this instance) that the caravan park has a policy of no fires - so obviously we won't be having any. I also realise that accidents happen, but really - does the fact that I asked if we could have fires really put me into the "God shes stupid" realm ?? Regards Di

Hi all, I haven't had a chance to log in recently and it now appears as though I have a few separate items/subjects on this thread to answer. I think it's best to deal with them one at a time. Cancellation Policy Refunds are not given, unless the entire cancelled period can be re-booked without a break in the occupancy. All cancellations will be charged a $30.00 administration fee per site/cabin. To avoid any dissapointment we recommend that you take out the appropriate travel insurance. This means NO sliding scale cheers f/f ;D ;D ;D ;D Firefighter, Thanks for the clarification on the cancellation policy. As it states " Refunds are not given, unless the entire cancelled period can be re-booked ", I will not be completing my booking or making any payment until after both our workplaces have confirmed that our leave has been approved. Regards Di

Hi Mod Team, Another question Just looked at the weather forecast for April/May in Broken Hill. As it's expected to get down to about 8Âșc in the evenings (which is a bit cold for us Queenslanders ) are we able to have fires??? Perhaps we can have a Interstate Camp Oven Cook off!!!! I'm sure there will be some great Interstate Rivalry ;D ;D Regards Di

Hi F/F, Thanks for the info on the cancellation fee. Just checking as most parks have a sliding fee the closer you get to the event i.e. is it $30 flat rate whether you cancel in October or in April for instance or is it free to cancel up until 1 month before then it's $30 etc etc. Many thanks Diane Hi Mod Team, Any reply on the above, please? Thanks Diane

Or if Enable Editing doesn't work, you can just highlight the questions, then copy and paste them into a new email or into a word document and then make the changes.

I received my confirmation email from Broken Hill Tourist Park today. Based on a 7-night stay, the cost is $35 per night, with 50% to be paid now to secure the booking, and the balance to be paid by 1 April 2014. Don Ricardo Thanks Geofff & Richard for your replies. Richard, Based on most other caravan park bookings that I have made (including previous Nationals), I am very surprised that Broken Hill require a 50% payment now as well as final payment 4 weeks before the event takes place. I am fully intending to go to the Nationals but have yet to have my leave authorised and also life sometimes has a habit of getting in the way of the best laid plans. Therefore does your booking paperwork mention what the cancellation policy is please? Instead of putting this on the forum, I would have contacted the park direct and asked the question but we have been asked not to phone the park, so hopefully you can answer this question for me? Many thanks to all the Mods for your help. Kind regards Di

Hi Mod Team, I'll apologies now in case this has already been mentioned. But has the caravan park at Broken Hill set their rates as yet for 2014? i.e. do we know how much it is going to cost us per night for the Nationals? Also are they offering us a deal i.e. book 4 nights get the 5th free etc etc? Many thanks Diane

Hi Stephen & Julie,
Don't do it !!!!!!!!
If you decide to keep the gas in the Pathfinder and want to have QLD rego, you will need to have a hole cut in the door of the caravan at floor height as well as another hole cut in the side of the van on the other side to the door at roof height. Both holes will need to be vented and be approx 25 cms wide by12 cms high - exact measurements will depend on the actual vent hole sizes.
That is of course as well as needing 2 regulators. etc etc
I have removed the gas from my Expandavan as I wasn't prepared to have additional holes cut in it.
Give me a call if you want to discuss it further.
