Hi Bob, You must have forgotten our conversation about the chassis number. I think you were out at the time, so perhaps didn't get a chance to write it down. Not to worry, I will give you a call again soon. Di Willow5075, Yes it is sad to part with treasured items but we are starting to get slowly organised and very excited about the big trip. Regards Di

Thanks shesgotthelook for putting the link up, much appreciated. Ray I didn't realise that a link had appeared, I didn't put it up, it appears to have happened automatically when the word "ebay" is typed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Regards Di

Hi All, In case anyone is interested, I have put our 1966 Expandavan up for sale on Ebay. As per Boblor (the guru) , our van is 1 of only 2 vans known to be made with a timber interior. Made by Helmsman Industries from Eildon in Victoria. We will be very sorry to see the Expandavan sold, but are having to downsize our fleet in readiness for our big (long) trip around the country. Hopefully it will go to someone who appreciates vintage vans as we do. Regards Di & Paul

Hi All,
I had a chat with Bob (Boblor) last night re: the age of our vans.
He has now interviewed the owner from Camperland & Camperman twice and after checking various paperwork etc has come to the realisation that the Fibreglass Expandavans were first produced in 1966 and finished in 1969. The last few of the 1969 vans produced were sold in 1970. All of the Fibreglass vans were produced by Helmsman Industries from Eildon in Victoria.
Of the 3 model variants less than 80 were produced in total.
Mine is the first model variant of which only 2 were made with the timber interior (neither Bob or I have come across the other one, so don't know whether it has still survived). Which means that mine is a 1966 not a 1968 as we originally thought.
Then there was the MkI variant and then the MkII Fully Fibreglass model which Bob's is. So Bob's would be a 1969. So this is a great vintage van that Bob has for sale. The price he is selling his van at is well below normal sale value as circumstances are forcing him to downsize - so grab yourself a bargain.
By the way Bob said that he has written up new information and will post that in DHL when he gets a chance.
Regards Di

Ray,
Paul and Yoko came along and caught up with some of us at Casino over Anzac weekend.
It had been about 3 years since they had been away. So it was lovely to see them.
I think they had a great time, so I'm sure they will turn up again at an event soon.

Hi Steven & Julie,
Good pick up Steve. I know you mentioned at Cooly Rocks that you were looking for another van.
Looks like you are already stuck into it and bringing it up to your normal great standard.

Hi All, Just some info on Canungra for those that are new to the forum. Canungra is on the weekend of October 3/4/5/6 i.e. the long weekend. There isn't a great deal written on this Canungra Thread as yet, because we are still over 4 months away. But it will be updated as we get closer to the time. But basically - it is held at Canungra Showground. There are facilities and powered and non powered sites available. (Smiles) Cathie has offerend to make the group booking, so you only need to mention on this thread that you will be attending and Cathie will add you onto the list. On one night we will no doubt end up at the pub for dinner, another night we will do camp ovens. There is a great pizza shop and a pie shop in town, so you won't go hungry if you don't feel like cooking. The pub has a courtesy bus in case we all have too much at happpy hour first There is a river, so you can have a swim if you wish. It's very relaxed - you basically just come along and relax and have some fun. Regards Diane

Hi! I'm a newby to this Forum. I took my vintage van to Cooly Rocks and heard from several people looking at my van about the SE Qld group. I am from Grafton and would be interested in meeting other van owners. I am interested in the Canungra weekend and would like some more information. Robyn Hi Robyn, I am the lady that sat down and talked to you and wrote down the forum information for you - welcome!. Glad that you have joined up and want to come along. We organise quite alot of events up around N/NSW and SEQ and always have a lot of fun and laughs, so i'm sure you will enjoy yourself. Canungra is on the weekend of October 3/4/5/6 i.e. the long weekend. In previous years Canungra has been our Christmas event, but the event has really got too big for Canungra and without much support from the caretaker. Therefore the Christmas event is now going to be at Samford. So we are having an event at Canungra in October instead, which will be a more low key event than Christmas. If you go to the top of this thread, you will see a calender with different dates and events listed. If you click on the blue link for Canungra it will take you to the Canungra Thread. Having said that, there isn't a great deal written on the Canungra Thread as yet, because we are still over 4 months away. But it will be updated as wee get closer to the time. This gives us the opportunity to now have 2 totally different events with Samford as the Xmas Party & Canungra on the weekend of October 3/4/5/6 & very much how it used to be a few years back: a pretty laid back camping event with campfires, camp oven cooking, no money collected, as little or as much organization as the participants want. We want to go to both events if they happen & we're able! So I'm happy to take names for Canungra & let the caretaker know the numbers for the October long weekend close to the date. But I'm not organizing caterers or anything else for Canungra apart from offering to bring wood for the fires. Cheers smiles Hi Cathie, 2 events instead of 1, sounds like a plan and the long weekend will give us all an extra day away from work. Also there is less chance of having a total fire ban in October. Perhaps you can start up a thread?? We will try and make it to both events. Regards Di

Dear F/F and Mod Team, I have just contacted Tamara at the Caravan Park and have cancelled our site for the Nationals. Therefore please offer our powered site to whoever you have next on the waiting list. Broken Hill has been a place that I have wanted to visit for many years and we were looking forward to our big trip along the Great Ocean Road, then Mt Gambier, Victor Harbour, Adelaide etc prior to attending The Nationals but we have decided (with the family situation as it is) to save our 5 weeks leave and also the money it would cost and put that towards a trip to England a bit later in the year instead. The Nationals that I have attended in Mt Gambier and Cowra were great, so i'm sure you will all have a wonderful time. Regards Diane

Hi Peter,
I used to tow my blue and white van with a VC, an S Series and a 64 Barracuda.
All 3 were on dedicated gas. The S was a slant six, the Barracuda we took out the 273 and put in a 318, can't remember what was in the VC. We used the S series and Barracuda as daily drivers so towed with them the most.
Handling was fine, no problems at all and towed at full speed without any trouble.
I never bother with exact economy. But I do remember that I would loose approx 1/3 distance per tank when towing that van. Having said that I still loose the same amount of distance now, when I tow it with my XT Falcon also dedicated gas.
Regards Di

:|Hi All Part of F/F's posting Looks like Di has a bee in her bonnet re the caravan parks deposit refund policy I would think all big caravan parks have a refund policy of some degree The caravan park in Broken Hill has told me the policy they have is only used for people booking CABINS and cancel Members please pay your deposit by 31st January and full payment in April
f/f for your moderation team
Hi F/F, It is mentioned on the forum occasionally that the moderators don't get much feedback or that they aren't kept in the loop. So I thought that by letting you know about some of the members concerns re: possibly not getting their deposit back, would help you with your planning of the event and/or your understanding of why some people still haven't paid anything yet. By the way, in case you think it is just a QLD thing. The conversations I had with other members were with forum members from VIC, NSW & QLD. It's great that you have now informed everyone that the cancellation policy only effects people booking cabins, hopefully that will make a difference to those waiting to book and pay for their site. But I really wonder why I bothered. As it's now very obvious to me why forum members don't bother keeping you in the loop or informing you of potential problems, if the reply they get for their efforts is you saying "Looks like Di has a bee in her bonnet re the caravan parks deposit refund policy". Geoff that is extremely condescending and infers that I am just the little woman!! Shame I wasn't standing next to you as you could have patted me on the head at the same time for effect !! Just so you know, No I don't have a bee in my bonnet about the refund policy. Bearing in mind that we had a family member pass away from Lung Cancer last week and the very next day my Step Mother in England was diagnosed with Stomach Cancer, so believe me when I say that we have much more important things going on in our lives at present than whether we attend the nationals or not and whether i've paid a deposit or not. As you know in my case I am waiting to have my leave signed off, which should happen next week when my boss returns to work. But we may need to change that and go to England instead. But don't worry - If I have to cancel, I will let the moderating team know as well as the caravan park. Regards Di
