Hi Everyone, I recently inherited this caravan from my grandparents. From searching your pages, I can guess it's a Petersville Expandavan circa roughly 1971-2? Can anyone please confirm this for me? Also does anyone know how much it is worth? Or know of someone is Brisbane who could help me? Any Help would be appreciated, thanks Simone

Hi Simone,
Congratulations on receiving an Expandavan.
You have come to the right place to try and find out the correct information about it.
As you would have gathered Expandavan's were made as different types and different brands over quiet a few years.
Boblor is the guru on all things Olympic and Expandavan. He has an Expandavan which originally he thought was a Petersville but I think he later unearthed some additional history on the Expandavans which shows differently. I don't think he has had a chance to update the information on the forum as yet.
From what I understand the Fibreglass (exterior) Expandavans originally had timber interiors and then changed to Fibreglass interiors. Bob will know all the exact changes to the interiors, but I think there was the timber, then Mk1 and Mk2 of the Fibreglass and then the Fully Fibreglass.
I suggest that you take some photos of the interior and put them up on the forum. Also the chassis number should be welded into the A-frame. It is normally on the outside of the A-frame on the door side. Either take a photo of that or tell us what the chassis number is and we may be able to date the van for you.
My van is an early 1968 Expandavan with a timber interior. From your photos I notice a few differences between your van and mine.
I don't know of anyone in Brisbane that has an Expandavan, but I am up on the Sunshine Coast and Bob is near the NSW/QLD border.
Unfortunately we are unable to discuss prices on the open forum. But we have a Vintage Van event on next weekend at Canungra Showgrounds, so if you don't already have plans why don't you come along and bring your van. Bob and I will both be there and so we can have a look at your van and have a chat with you further.
Regards Diane

Hi Simmyb, Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your choice of grandparents! Or perhaps I should congratulate them on having a granddaughter who appreciates the finer things of life - such as a very nice looking Expandavan. As 1954homemade has observed, your model Expandavan pre-dates the Petersville period, and most likely comes from the Camperland/Camperman period. You've probably already found the Expandavan thread in the Down History Lane section of the forum, but if not click here. If you compare your van to the ones shown in the adverts there you may be able to work out which dealer it came from, and therefore confirm the year of production.. And as 1954Homemade said, Boblor's your man! Don Ricardo

Thanks very much guys.
The interior is all moulded fibreglass, not wood so that is something good to know. Unfortunately my grandfather is a bit dodgy when he is fixing things so the A-frame has actually be totally sprayed and as far as I can tell there is no plate welded to it. When I eventually have a car that is able to tow, I may have to just tow it to someone to have a look :/. I am sorry I missed your post about Cannungra, Dianne or I probably would have come. Thanks again Simmy
