Hi All,
It is now listed on Facebook as 1964 Capricorn Caravan (it automatically lists it that way).
On Gumtree it is listed as 1960’s Capricorn Aluminium and Bondwood Caravan Vintage, Retro

Hi all,
In November 2020 I purchased the 60's Capricorn Caravan (Aluminium and Bondwood) that was previously owned by Halps and then Miss Molly.
The forum shows some of the history of the van back to 2007, together with various refurbishments since then. It is a fabulous caravan in great condition.
With having more than one vintage van, unfortunately we really don't use the Capricorn enough, so I will be listing it for sale on Facebook Marketplace in the next few days, when I find time.
It is situated in SEQLD.
Kind regards Diane

I found this info below on the Classic Caravan Site that had been listed in 2012 by Mausie
Capricorn Caravans. East Bentleigh Victoria.
A Brief History. In 1950 Joe Postner decided that he had enough of living conditions in the Communist controlled Czechoslavakia and chose Australia for his new home. He arrived here with nothing but the princely sum of 5 pound in his pocket and the knowledge of his trade as a cabinet maker. Joes first job in Australia was with Dick Thickens at Highway Caravans. After gaining valuable experience and knowledge of the caravan industry, in 1962 he and 3 of his Italian friends, Messers. Piccioni, Palmarini and Kansi got together and founded Capricorn Caravan. The business flourished and a move to bigger premises in Dandenong became necessary. When Mr Kansi decided to return to Europe, the other partners decided to go their separate ways and Mr Piccioni retained the firms name of Capricorn. Joe Postner later opened another factory at Moorabbin and manufactured Cambridge and Islander Caravans.
We dug this up trawling through the internet Mausie

Hi all,
I have just spoken to and emailed the Top of the Town Park.
They need additional information besides Name, Email and Dates of Stay.
I have sent their contact email address and full list of info required to Richard, so he can update the main post for everyone's info.
Cheers Diane
Thanks Diane, I've added in the extra info required by Top of the Town to Smiles email above.

Hi Leigh,
Thanks for you offer - that's great.
Once the new (old) handles arrive, I will check them against the screws that I have on my current handles and see if they will do the job. If not, I will try and work out the size needed and let you know.
Much appreciated.
Thanks Diane

Hi All, I wish to get in contact with Keith and Suzannah (the Halps's). I noticed that they have not logged on for sometime. Does anyone have their phone number by any chance? Many thanks Di Hi All, I suppose I should have mentioned that I have purchased the Capricorn from Miss Molly that Halps's used to own and would love to get in contact with them to ask a couple of questions. So if anyone has their phone number or email address that would be great? Many thanks Di

Dear Al, Cobber and Ray, Thank you so much gents for your friendly welcome backs. I have looked in on the site from time to time and have still been using my van on rare occasions. But have spent a few years carrying out Palliative and EOL care for family members, which as you can imagine has been all encompassing. But I am now having more free time and so will turn up on the forum and in person every so often. Thank you so much with your help and suggestions and the links - what fantastic information. And Ray thanks for your phone call whilst at the BGS earlier today - it was great to catch up. On the weekend I managed to purchase a set of 14 handles (without screws) from the US on Ebay, fingers crossed that they arrive ok and that I can get the right screws to fit. So hopefully they will do the trick, if not I will be on the search again. Al, not sure if you have put up a photo recently of the plastic push-button handles that you are searing for, but might be worth adding it to this thread as well - you never know who has things squirreled away. Many thanks Di

Hi Ray,
Thanks for your message and yes hello it has been a long time.
I'm still in Queensland (not inebriated) and loving it.
Yes I have tried the BGS and M 10 as well as some other hardware and handles places.
I'm really not worried about what style they are, as long as they are chrome, 76mm centre to centre hole and all of the same style. The only criteria is that I don't want them to be a completely plain handle.
Kind regards Di

Hi All,
I am after a set of Vintage Chrome Pull Handles for my caravan. I'm not overly worried about what design they are, but I need 12 at the very minimum or preferably 14 ish.
As I don't want to re-fill holes and makes new ones, they need to have a centre to centre hole measurement of 76mm.
I will be looking on Ebay, Etsy, Gumtree, Facebook etc etc, but thought it best to mention to you all incase anyone has some squirrled away anywhere.
Many thanks Diane

So sad to hear the news about Bobs passing. He fought against his illnesses for so many years with quiet determination.
Bobs knowledge of vintage caravans, especially Olympics and Expandavans was amazing – he was definitely the “go to” man, not only in SEQ but across the country. He will be missed.
We send our condolences to Bobs family and friends

Such sad news - Geoff did such a big job on the forum both as a Moderator and organising numerous events that we had the pleasure of attending, I'm sure he will be missed by everyone.
Our condolences are sent to Gaye and her family.

Dear Sue and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Dennis" passing. It has no doubt been an extremely difficult journey for you all. We are sending our thoughts and prayers to you.
I first met JBJ and Boots in NSW in 2007 on my first Vint Van run and have since spent many happy hours catching up on runs in NSW and.SEQ. Or stopping off at your house whilst travelling between Brisbane and Sydney.
As mentioned by some of the other members, Dennis was a font of information. He was also a larger than life character and we had some spirited conversations.
I will remember him well. Love Diane x x
