Hi all,
We are into 50's and 60's Chryslers and just over a year ago we purchase a handmade 1954 caravan to take with us to the various car events that we attend.
I am new to this site.
On Saturday I met a man at Cessnock Swap (with an old caravan), who told me about this site and mentioned the upcoming Back to Coledale event. He also mentioned about touring around Moruya, Batemans Bay etc etc prior to Coledale.
Having just read all the messages on this forum i'm guessing that the man might have been "reddo". Anyway can someone please email me all the info re: dates, times, meeting places etc etc, so we can see if we can fit the trip into our schedule? Many Thanks.
It may be that all the info is already on this site and I have missed it - if so can someone please point me in the right direction?
Many thanks Diane

For everyone on the East Coast Tour Not sure if any of you will be interested in going to the movies whilst in town? But as we are going to be in Ulladulla for 2 nights I have spoken to the owner of the Arcadia Twin Cinemas re: getting a group discount if we want to go. He will sell us books of 5 tickets at $44.00 ($8.80 each) instead of $60.00, so that's a saving of more than 25%. The movies he expects to have on at that time are:- Stardust Evan Almighty Rush Hour 3 Hairspray Death of a Funeral We can talk futher, once on the tour. Kind regards Diane

Hi Reddo,
Thanks for your PM. I have replied accordingly.
As for which caravan park are we booked into.
We were going to book into Borderland Caravan Park, McKoy St, Wodonga. We stayed their last year and it did the job nicely. But a friend of a friend owns a motel just up the road from the caravan park and has offered for us to park in their back garden and plug us into their power etc. All of the other people in our group are staying at the motel and the owner thought it was a shame for us to be somewhere else. So it sounds as though we won't be at the van park afterall.

Hi all,
Well the decision has been made - we are going to join you all at Mount Gambier, yee haa!! ;D ;D
I have already made our booking at Blue Lake Holiday Park.
We will be at Albury/Wodogna up until mid afternoon on Sunday 16th, so won't be at Mount Gambier until sometime on Monday 17th.
Perhaps some of you locals across the NSW/VIC border can give us an idea of the best way to go?. Is it best to stay on the Hume Fwy (M31) all the way to down to the Ring Road North of Melbourne and then (M8) to Ballarat, Hamilton, Coleraine, Casterton, Mt Gambier. Or to stay on the Hume Fwy (M31) to Benalla, then Shepparton, Bendigo, Maryborough, Avoca, Ararat, Hamilton, Coleraine, Casterton, Mt Gambier. Or some other way.
Reddo I know you will be at Albury on the Saturday night and so will be driving from there on the Sunday, which way are you planning on going?
Thanks Diane

Hi Kris,
Good bit of detective work - it might be a Cordell, but it also might be a Propert !!!
A friend of ours came down to Coledale on the weekend to look at all the vans. We missed them but when I spoke to him on Sunday night, he said that his farther (now 90) used to work for Propert in Newtown (Sydney) and that he used to build the Vans. Anyway to cut a long story short. His father always used to talk to him about a one off aluminium van that Properts had made and from the description that Billy's father used to give - he thinks there is a chnace that it might be Marvin.
So Alan if you haven't already contacted Billy give him a call and take him some photos of Marvin. Billy said he will then show them to his Dad for you. Unfortunately neither of them are on computer.
Good luck Regards Diane

Hi Fatboy, Black and White Chequered material is fairly easy to find. I'm in Sydney and have seen it in lots of material shops. I went into a local material shop yesterday in Hurstville called "My Hung" they have cotton black and white chequered material for $8.00 a metre, 115cms width. I am referring to approx 3cm square chequerboard not gingham. They also have other colours if required. They have two locations Hurstville 302 Forest Road Tel: (02) 9582 0002 or Parramatta 282 Church Street Tel: (02) 9635 8051 It's a shame you didn't ask a couple of weeks ago as I have just been down to Bateman's Bay with the East Coast Tour - I could have bought some down for you. Phone them and see how you go. Good luck Regards Diane

Hi all, Whilst walking around on Christmas night looking at the lights - I noticed a Propert. After a little bit of investigation, it turns out to be owned by the sister and brother-in-law of friends of ours (small world). They have owned it for approx 3 years. It's not on the road and does need some work doing to it before they can use it. When talking to the owners, they mentioned that they didn't know how old it was, so I said I would try and find out. The build number is 5. 249. After reading this thread and roehm3108's comments i'm guessing it must be a 1965 build - is that right? Also reading between the lines is the 3 digit number a running total of the amount of Properts ever built?? i.e. Big Didda's being the oldest we know of NÂș 62 (not sure of the year), then 5.249 (1965), 8.318 (1968), 9.340 (1969), 70.345 (1970). ? Thanks guys Di

Hi Mark, Great that you are sending some merchandise across for the East Coast. I will get my T-Shirt then - thanks. Mark, Reddo, Sutcac. As for selling them, I have a lockable money tin that I can bring along if you want for the stall? I am also happy to do up bright For Sale signage and signage that lists the items and their prices to help attract people to the stall.i.e. T-Shirts $20 Polo Shirts $35 Calendars $20 Stickers $10 etc etc. Before I do that, can someone please confirm if you want me to add a dollar or 2 etc to the prices to accommodate the cost of Mark having to send them all over here in the first place? Cheers Regards Diane

Hi Mark,
I've been slack. Planned on ordering one and just haven't got around to it - sorry.
I second Sutcac's idea about setting up a stall at Coledale and I would be more than happy to help man the stall and sell them. I could also purchase my t-shirt then !!!!
Regards Diane

Hi Maurie, Yes we did survive the 50's fair ok, thanks. It was my first visit to the event, eventhough Alan had been previously. Friends had always talked it down, apparently it's not the best place to be if the weather has been wet. But being such a lovely day, we had a nice time. 4,500 is a big crowd. It was great to meet you, Kate and the kids. You were doing a fantastic job with promoting Vintage Vans and the upcoming Coledale trip . It was also nice for me to put some faces to the forum usernames. Atleast when we arrive at Coledale Alan and I will know/recognise someone. We are thinking of going down to Coledale aswell this weekend as it's a Public Holiday for me - any excuse to go away !!!!! Mind you the weather doesn't look too promising, so we'll see. Anyway see you in a few weeks. Diane

Great photos Caleb - haven't ever seen anything quite like it. Don Ricardo the words on the side translate to "Klassiker tests the modern house car". By the way, no i'm not fluent in Swedish - I just cheated and typed the words into Outlook and asked it to translate for me. I'm not sure if Klassiker is a brand name or similar in Swenden. In German Klassiker means "Classic" Hope that helps Regards Diane

Hi Cheryl,
Also I forgot to mention. As for your rego sticker saying 1988. The way that tends to happen is that at sometime, someone could have taken the number plates from a 1988 van and then moved them onto your van. If your van doesn't have clearly identifiable chassis number on the draw bar (alot of older vans don't have them) it couldn't be checked properly.
If you are able to find a chassis number on your draw bar you can double check it against the chassis number on your rego papers.
Regards Diane

Hi Cheryl,
Don't know if this will add to the confusion or perhaps help you.
Each day on my way to work I pass a small caravan in the front garden of a house in Sydney. After looking at your photos yesterday - it reminded me of the van I see daily.
Therefore I stopped today and had a better look.
It is a Viscount Ambassadore - it appears to be the same shape and size as yours with the front slanting windows, but (just like daggsey mentioned) yours doesn't have a middle window over the sink.
It still has it's original silver with a blue flash down the side.
Regards Diane

Hi
I also do not think that generators should be allowed to be used on a VV event.
In the case of Coledale this year - I was lucky that we were at the other end of the park to the generator. Had I been close by and been disturbed by it, I would have had alot to say !!!
Of the 41 vans in attendance, I think that only 1 or 2 generators were used. It's amazing how 39 other vans managed without any trouble !!!!!
