Hi all. I am desperately trying to clean silver spray can paint from my Globey roof with depreessing results. Can any one give me the successful method and materials that they have used. I have tried 'ct18' truck wash followed by 'citris' paint stripper followed by polishing with an electric buff using an aluminium polish. All this produced a shiney diamond pattern with black and /or still panited cross hatching. I gurneyed this and some came off. I tried hand scourers, stainless steel wool, rotary brushes (against my better judgement). I polished with Kero with some success. I tried some phosphoric acid as a sample which wasn't too bad but I gave it back to my mate and the replacement rust eater I used is a disaster and wont gurney off. Perhaps I will have to replace this sheet with my spare. All this so I can get my signage done whith a good base! All advice will be appreciated . Thanks Beetles

I have some but it's in Adelaide. One sheet is about 8'x 4' (without actually measuring it). The other is about 8' x2'6". They came off a globetrotter and I would have to check for damage if you are interested. I also have some other bits from it including a fly door, 4 flyscreens and windows (ally), a table, an ice box door and an electric fridge from another van. Regards Graham

This morning about 8 am I saw on this forum a thread that read "please save this lantern van in S.A". I went to Gumtree where it was said to be but could not find it. I then returned to this forum and I cant find it. Does any one know if it sold? I saw one last week at a yard I know but havent been able to contact the yard owner.

Sorry Dave . I didn't mean to "put you in it" and hope no one thinks that you were "grandstanding" rather than trying to support a great event.
Sportsman. I'm sorry to see that you can't come now. Does Bob know?

I have been asked by BOB FREA,K the organiser of the Tanunda get together for some help as some confusion has developed due to him not being a member of this forum (why I don't know). Apparently anywhere from 5 to 15 van owners have contacted Dave ( olfarts) to say they are coming but unfortunately Dave didn't get thier details.
So could all those who are going PLEASE contact BOB FREAK on 08 8298 2831, or 0412 853
312 or by email judob@bigbutton.com.au
Do this A.S.A.P. as Bob has to confirm numbers very soon. ________________________________________________ For those who don't know there will be a meal to buy and a rock and roll club bringing their dancers to show us all how it's done. Beetles

Hi There. Good yarn and daggsey is right about the Globey. I had an xy Panelvan from new for about a yearand a half. Worst car of 100+ I have owned bar none! Not even the fact that it was a 302 GS pack with 4 speed, LSD , and gt interior made it worth keeping. I lent on it one day and dented the door just on the raised reinforcing mouldings. What a heap! Did I learn? 2 cars later it was a 66 F100 to tow my 70 Millard 22 footer. More trouble but i put it down to age. An EL Futura wagon and now a 2008 dedicated gas Falcon wagon. Heres hoping. Beetles

My list of things I found in previous vans: My teardrop had a huge huntsman ( they do have taste) 1st Furness had a bath full of EMPTY stubbys from the owners son who obviously partied a bit more than Mum had believed. 2nd Furness had the biggest scallops on any tyre I have ever seen. About 6" long and half " deep!!! My Globey had 9 old unused rego labels inside and an annexe The Highway palace had a bloody possum in a kitchen drawer when I opened it! Talk about jump. Dick was about to shoot it with a 22 when i reminded him of the new ply on the other side. But the best was yet to come. When I was tring to chisel out the bottom ply in a shelf my chisel hit steel in a place where no steel should have been. Upon removing a lower drawer I found a small plywood door that opened to reveal a locked steel cash box!! It was removed, shaken, prised but to no avail so dick took it to a locksmith who opened it to find only an asbestos lining. Old Pop Parr was sure to have enough cash to fuel the Fargo. later Dick found the two 12v/240v inverterr that when tested were still fine but illegal today due to OH&S ( or some other regulation). These were fitted in 1947 as were the 6v electric brakes that came with the war surplus low loader that the van is built on. Beetles

Nice van Mia. We in the "on again off again restoration company" refer to those "stop" phases as "the stitch". Like when you've run along way and get a stitch in your side. I've had one for too long and must do something about it soon. Maybe when the weather cools down. Keep up the good work Mia Regards Beetles

Can anyone send me or post a very clear picture of the boomerang globe trotter logo so my signwriter can make a good stencil to air brush my van. I gave him some photos and showed him those on this forum but amazingly they are all faulty in some way. He particularly needs detail of the central globe. Thanks Graham

Hi Humpy, You could always get it road worthy with help from oldfarts or me and drive down. Then have a night or 2 with us at the Tanunda vintage caravan weekend ( 17-19 feb) on your way home. Oldfarts offer is a good one too. Strange isnt it that he is getting a van from half way to you and yours comes from his backyard! Good luck with it . Oh by the way. I have a pair of proper teardrop mudguards if you want to replace those trailer ones. I could put them in the van for the trip home perhaps. Beetles

YAAAY! Dick and Judy will be there in the Palace, but they are a bit too proud to take your money it seems. However Judy likes champane and dick will have a beer with you. Heard of a 60's Roady coming up soon too so I hope to have some info and photos at Tanunda. Beetles

I will be there with Globey on Safari. My teardrop will be behind a 29 DeSoto roadster. If any one wants to buy my other VC SAFARI for $6500 I will arrange for it to be there too. We are working on Dick to bring THE HIGHWAY PALACE. Maybe some donations for fuel could help as it is hugely thirst.y Beetles

Any one who is interested can use their own photos to make jigsaws on EUREKA JIGSAW. Iguess you can find it by googling but my sister installed it on my computer . Trouble is I spend too much time making and doing them. It is a great way of remembering those moments.

Hi all, In 76 I had a similar problem with a 66 F100 left rear wheel that flogged out 2 wheels. i eventually found that when I tightaned the nuts I had to MAKE SURE THAT THE RIM CENTRED ON THE STUD. If I didn't lift the wheel to centre it then I would find the wheel off centre after I finished tightening it. Even with a long bar for leverage it still hung on the stud and tightened there. I also found a few years ago on other powdercoated rims that the coating was rubbed into 'balls ' and the wheel was not very tight. So this confirms Kaybee's statement. This has happened on a number of my rims so I (we) should ALL check our rims. Beetles

when we retored "THE HIGHWAY PALACE" we coated the whole outside with fibreglass matt using 'BOTE COTE' glue rather than resin. It works well but is not cheap. I did the same with my teardrop as well as a mate's. teardrops cost us about $350 each to do and I'd do it again. I was advised that rayon cloth is good instead of 'glass too. Beetles

Have we (v.vanners) determined a way of dating our Globeys yet? My 6? gold coaster 14 ' had 13" holdens on. Had 2 spare as well so I changed to 14" hk/t rims which I bought as new repros. I have the 2 eh and 2 hr rims available to a vvanner. I may sell my annexe too as we don't stay long anywhere. Also have an all electric fridge and 4 globey windows as well as other parts from one I wrecked last year due to LOTS of rot. As I now have a V.C. Valiant Safari Wagon I will fit matching wheels to the globey. I will soon be going on safari in my Safari wearing my safari suit with Globey on Safari. But first I would like to repaint my 3 logos. I had intended getting vinyl stencils made as I did for the Furness stripes years ago, and painting them myself. What do you reckon Daggsey? Will it work? I doubt we can afford to fly you over AND pay for your services too. But it is a thought that we all get together and 'chip in'. Regards Beetles

Hi Mark. You'r close, It is green but those dark mudguards are a darker green not black. It was repainted in 1978 to match the original colours. I even have the factory build card for it.(well a certified copy)
