WOW!! this reminds me of the team working on the highway palace and the effort taken. Not to mention the dollars. What a difference a huge budget makes. I like some of the insulation they used but I'm sure it could have been made lighter. I'de love to see it. Well done those men. Beetles

Well I'm back from holiday and no one has replied about the 'mother load' of mouldings for 50'/60's vans or the raised head countersunk slot screws available in Adelaide so I won't bother posting photos. Some angles and mouldings were saved but most went to scrap metal dealer by owner of business. I still have the screws. Beetles

Hi Kyliegirl and other half , As olfarts said, the flywire may be canvas. I sanded my roof but went too far and took too much of the old cotton threads away. Even after 3 coats of enamel house paint it leaked. Perhaps I used the wrong paint but now if I was doing a major job I would remove the old canvas and caneite if it had it. Then glue and tack /staple 2mm bending ply to the roof beams before painting a thick coat of 'bote cote' over it and laying on fine surfboard fibreglass matt, then another coat of botecote. (available from DUCK FLAT WOODEN BOATS in Mt Barker) dont waste your time looking elswhere as after 9 years we havent found it elswhere. We did the Highway Palace all over with it as well as my tear drop. I have a lot of old fittings if you need any. (p/m. me) (oh I am in Hope Valley ) Also woth noting is that many people built one or two vans primaraly for themselves such as me leading hand of years ago who said he built 2 but i never saw them. He was a coachbuilder and any timber tradesman could do it. Good luck with it. We look forward to seeing it on a future vintage van weekend. Regards Beetles

Hi Ken I was given a cute little Pathmaster a few years ago which I swapped for a window to suit a freind's Adventurer. It was about 8or 9 foot long timber frame with leather look aluminium cladding. It needed so much work it stipped for the parts. I asked the same question as you at the time on this forum and got little or nothing. One thought I had was that it was a small product of Roadmaster (path being a small road??) and having the same windows. But Lazza from Roadmaster said he hadn't heard of them either but he at least got a few spare windows from it. I look forward to hearing any info. Beetles

Yesterday I uncovered a huge supply of ally 'J" moulds and slot head screws, Including the rare raised head countersunk slot screws. The screws are mine and tonight I will discuss with the owner how best to deal with the mouldings. There is also a stone guard for a smaller window. About 2'6'' long.
This ally is annealed so it can be bent around all our curved roof lines. I replaced my 1/2" angle around my Globey with new ally that I had annealed but was surprised at how hard it was to bend. I was told that the original stuff was much more pliable and now I see just how good it was.
Some could be used for vintage car running board trim too.
I will try to get a photo of each profile to show you. I will be away from 19th April till 7th May so it will only be pick up till then but depending on your interest and transport costs deliveries and prices can be worked out and I will save as much as I can till May. More details to come but please indicate your interest now. Regards Beetles

I'm with your wife "takeiteasy' as a veteran vanner spending 4.5 years caravanning around Oz in the 70's on LOTS of dirt road like the Nullarbor, Gibb river rd,Kalgoorlie to Laverton etc., etc., without so much as a cracked window even when I tipped the 22 footer on an angle of about 40 degrees after a blowout at 60 MPH. (yeah that was stupid of me). Beetles

Ok we checked it out today and here are some photos. Brian owns it and at least his wife and he agree that if it doesn't sell they will put it on the river block as is and not gut it. He was looking for a big old Carapark for the purpose when this came up so if there are any Carapark 'shells' or comercial vans used by government etc. out there please giv Brian a call on 83903286 or 0438 903 286. He may be up for a straight swap if the exchange suits him or a cash adjustment.

We got a call from a guy who got a Roadmaster that seems to be a 60's. Has fiberglass roof. He intended to gut it for a shack lounge room but feels guilty of desecrating the wrong thing so is trying to sell it OR swap for a lesser van more suitable to the intended purpose. This van is 16' I think so anyvan this size or bigger may suit him. He wont want some heap of crap in exchange for it but a good exterior and no leaks is important. We intend seeing it tommorrow with a camera in hand. Cheers Beetles

Hi there. The Pink Fargo and Furness van belong to Mark 'Spike' and Naomi Holt of Springton. We knew the ute as 'the cocky truck' before the resto and it had yellow on it as well as the pink and grey then. The Furness can be seen prior to resto, on the S.A. Caravan and Camping show thred of a few years ago. Regards Beetles

We saw a wayfarer at the Tanunda weekend in 2012 which had this patent application number on the inside. Note the shape and design of the plate is very similar to Globe trotter vans and is in the same place inside. Note that the number is the same as globe's actual patent # The wording has some similarities. Compare with the Globe one below. We wonder if globe built these for others who sold them under their own brand. In this case, Wayfarer.

Firstly , Thanks to Donricrdo for posting my Globe Trotter logos. I hope that other owners will be able to use them for detail puposes .
Now to Tanunda......... What a weekend we had! Usually we in the Chrysler Restorers Club use our vans to attend one of our club events or to visit some S.A. event such as the up coming salt water classic wooden boat weekend on the York Penninsula. Having Bob Freak as a member proved to be a HUGE bonus this weekend as he has spent a lot of time (and $) organising this weekend's BIG event in Tanunda and we had 17 members vintage (and Classic) vans amoung the 45 to 50 attending vans. It was good to see a good roll up from the Roadmaster 'Register' as well as the only 2 Adventurers seen on this site. (are there any more out there?) A couple of Rowvans and Broadways too. And a special thanks to all those who made the effort to travel from interstate. A highlight of saturday was the introduction of some original manufactureres as well as some family of others. We had Bill(?) Rowe who built the 2 Rowvans present. Jan Copolla and his brother Sal who worked for Roadmaster in the early days and later took over the factory (NOT THE NAME), and went on to build ADELMA, which as a vanner in the 70's I heard many refer to both these vans as the "Rolls Royce of caravans" Ray Mossop spoke about his father and uncle's BROADWAY manufacturing business and had taken one of theirs as well as his own his own design teardrop. Larry Weepers from Roadmaster spoke of growing up in his Dad's ROADMASTER factory and as the owner now he built the last Roady last year to concentrate on repair and sale of accessories etc so he and Judy can get out and enjoy doing what their customers had been enjoying for many years. The local Ford club supplied a fantastic roast dinner for a reasonable price and the Barrossa rock and roll club set up and danced into the night to the music and singing of 'No one famous' (or was that 'nobody famous'?) Certainly we hadn't heard of him, but will look forward to enjoying his talents again. Every evening had what is euphemistically known as HAPPY HOUR. I cant understand why as 60 minutes used to make an hour but it seems to have gone metric or something or is my clock doing 300 minutes to the hour now? I just love these hours. Any way a great weekend and the new annexe was measured and ordered on the way home. Thanks to Bob Freak and his offsider John Coombe and those who helped. See you on the GRAND PARADE IN 2013 Beetles

Perhaps its from a ford consul. They had stub axles that were bolted on with 4 bolts which made them ideal for home trailer builders. Beetles

Hi Les you certainly have made a good start. I sealed all the under side of my teardrop with BoteCote 2 pack epoxy from Duck Flat Wooden Boats in Mt Barker (sa). I guess any 2 pack boat glue might do. I would have replaced the chassis rail in one peice but with your glue and those bolts it should hold , especially if you add a metal plate above and below the join so the bolts don't pull into the floor timbers. Keep plugging away at it. Cheers Beetles

So... finally... I have had the logos signwritten on my Globey. A long job for the 3 signs but it looks great. The guy has the artwork in his computer and is happy for me to pas the word. But he won't travel too far. I fond about 5 different colours on line for the Gold Coaster sign so mine is dfferent again having 3 colours on the one sign. Blue sea, brown tree trunk and green oalm leaves. If I cant send someone a photo I will try to get someone who can, to do it for me. See you all on the weekend. Over 40 vans Bob tells me.
