I am moving interstate to a house with no shed so need to sell my restored 14' Globe Trotter Gold Coaster. I removed the windows and resealed them after the repaint and replaced and resealed the 'J' molds. It was fitted with early 13" Holden wheels and I had the hubs re drilled to suit early Valiant wheels that are now fitted so it will take both. This required larger wheel arches to make roadside removal easy so I then made spats to cover the enlarged openings. The single beds were bridged to make a long double. The gas stove was removed (included in sale , as are the single bed mattresses), but the gas line is there without the bottle. A microwave is fitted under the original stove area in the cupboard over the wheel arch. I also fitted a slide out drawer under the front near side dinette seat to make access easy. (this is where I store the gear needed to set up such as the 240 cord, hose for waste water, hose for mains pressure, wheel chocks and stabilizing jacks etc). I had a new convertible annexe made 2 years ago and it has zippered sides that can all be removed , or set up as a full annexe or with any number of walls fitted or half awning with the rear end made into a room to store chairs, table, bikes etc. A set of plastic coated wire basket drawers are fitted in the short hanging robe and a similar shelf under the long hanging robe. The van has been rewired to 15 AMP with current regulation compliance certificate and lots of power points. (I can lay in bed and reach under the bed to turn a fan heater on or off without getting out of bed which is great on a very cold morning). Van comes with stabilizing bars and a spare wheel and tire as well as all the cutlery, crockery, glasses etc needed to allow buyer to use it for the trip home. Offers Around $8000.
I will try to post pics. but can email if you P.M me you email address. Cheers Beetles

Due to my rego papers stating the mass as 610 I was a bit concerned when the buyer wanted to tow it with a V.W. so we spoke, I had it weighed and it actually weighs 1055 KG loaded (apart from clothes and food) So I suggested we cancel the sale so he didn't have to buy a 6 cylinder car or resell the van. This was done and it's up for grabs again. My apologies to those of you who were watching with intention to bid. Regards Graham

Hi Dawn This is not an ally van but otherwise it fits your requirements. I have listed my mid 60's Globe trotter Gold Coaster on eBay. It's 14', restored as well and has a near new annexe and all the gear we used when vintage vanning. Check it out before writing off a Globey. They are very good vans. AND it's in Adelaide. Cheers Graham

Hi all, We are moving to N.S.W. early next year and the house there has one small shed so I have to sell all my old cars and the 2 vintage vans . (i'll get more in a couple of years when the sheds are built). So if you look in the for sale section you'll see them listed. Check gumtree for Valiant V.C. Looks just like my globey Gold Coaster from mid 60's which had 13" holden wheels and I had the hubs red rilled to suit 14" Valiant rims. I had a new annexe made for mine and still have the old one if you are interested. It is in useable condition with a tear in the front wall near the van. PM me

Hello Cobber, I have not visited this forum at all this year and am pleased to see your resto thread. Keep it up (as the nun said to the bishop). Yes it is a slow but rewarding process. I have done a few vans (and helped on others) in the last 20 years and it seems to be easier and more rewarding than doing a car except you cant drive it anywhere so need to do the car anyway! I am interested in all the oddball features in this van too and I am sure you will have more to show us as the time goes by. Cheers Beetles

Painting now done and while stripping 2nd hatch I found the up side of the interior ply on it has the following written in crayon. 'CADELL PRIMARY SCHOOL', like the old way delivery 'dockets' were done. Now, Cadell is a small town in S.A. that now is more likely to be known for it's jail. Was this ply pinched from the school, did the van builder work there, or was this ply from an earlier hatch repair by someone in the public works dept. who had access to education dept ply? The MYSTERY continues. I have decided to name her 'MISS TERRY' for all her unknowns. I am polishing handles and knobs, cleaning seats and mattresses, fitted screens and curtain track this week as well as buying curtain material and flooring. She's starting to look good. Beetles

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL, I FOUND SOME CLUES (MAYBE) THE ALLY WINDOWS ARE BY L.O.BAKER OF BRISBANE. THE SINK IS CARA-REST (A FRIEND STILL OPERATES THIS CARAVAN REPAIR BUSINESS IN ADELAIDE) HE DOESN'T HAVE ANY OF THAT OLD STUFF LEFT THOUGH. I HAVE PULLED THE HATCHES APART AND FOUND A WELL CONSTRUCTED FRAME WITH 3/16" PLY ON BOTH SIDES OF IT AND COVERED WITH FLAT ALLY ON OUTSIDE. THE FRAME HAS STYROFOAM INSULATION BETWEEN THE TIMBERS AND SANDWICHED BETWEEN THE 2 SHEETS OF PLY. THEY ARE VERY STRONG AND FAIRLY HEAVY. I ROTARY WIRE BRUSHED THE A FRAME TRYING TO LOCATE A NUMBER BUT TO NO AVAIL. (SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT VISCOUNTS HAD THE NUMBER INSIDE THE A FRAME.) I'M NEARLY READY TO PAINT THE INSIDE. JUST WANT TO GET THE HATCHES REPAIRED FIRST. BEETLES

Does anyone know what van builders used ally windows made by L.O.BAKER OF BRISBANE. This is the only reference I have so far as to determining the make of my van. No rego papers, no serial # (yet),no markings anywhere that I have found. I had some photos posted earlier with a few suggestions but nothing definate yet. Thanks for those who helped last time.

Hi all I just bought some NOS teak wood gran laminex to replace some in my van. It is on ebay for $10 a sheet (8'x4'). I recall new costs about $200!
It is being sold by 'TILE IMPORTER' 15-17 Natalia Ave Oakleigh sth Vic. My mate picked 4 sheets up for me and said that he had about 200 of them and that they have an elephant stamp on the back so probably came from Thailand.
Anyway if you are in Adelaide and want to see before buying P.M. me. Beetles

Hi Millsy I am in the same boat as you with my restoration project here in Adelaide and it is interesting that your windows are L.O.ROBERTS as mine are L.O.BAKER and are from Brisbane. Re the rego; firstly, do you have the old rego papers. I have not so will go to rego mob now and find out the process and let you know.

Have a look at DEC Caravan World and towards the back you will see my Globey. 3 pages no less. (well PART of 3 pages anyway) The story was done by Keith and Susan Hall at Tanunda over a year ago and they say they now have a vintage caravan article in Both CW and T t R every month. Now to check out the Propert. Beetles

Well thanks to you all. This is the sort of help I thought I would get from this great forum and now I realize why none was forthcoming till now. It seems like i have an oddball. mmm perhaps I'll call it that. An oddball. Don And Cobber are probably right about it being an S.A. van as that's where I live and the van came from a man who's grand father bought it and used it in his back yard for 20 years. What use he put it to I don't know but his Grandson used it for storage for a few years till he built a shed. It still has an S.A. number plate but no sticker. It had a reverse cycle A/C in the O/S front window and so I have to make another fly screen and seal and paint the window sill that has slight water damage. The rest of the interior was dry all along luckily. I will investigate further to see if it was clad over ply but I think I would have noticed it when I had the windows out. I tend to agree with the 60's dating but it may go to late 60's due to the windows and standard Hella tail lights. Though they could have covered up signs of previous ones. For what it's worth the ally profile along the centre (window height) is different to the rest. By that I mean tbe diamond type pattern not the ribs. I will try to email one of you some detailed shots if that's ok. The only time I could work the photo bucket thing was under instruction from an expert. Cheers and thanks to you all for your help and suggestions. Beetles

Hi All, I am hoping that someone can identify my latest aquisition.
Woowoo posted some pics on Nov. 9th, on page 2 under the subject heading 'IDENTIFY MY VAN' but although 94 members have looked at it there have been no replies. I hope that doesn't that mean no one has any idea about it. any way I thought I would add this post to 'refresh' it.
The van has a wooden frame, and some unusual features such as a table to set up outside that fits in a recess in the wall of the robe to your right when entering the van. (such a nifty idea)
It also has a 2 way drawer between the rear beds so that both people can slide it to their side to access personal gear. ( or to slam it into the other's head to wake them up!)
It has 2 hatches with the most secure and positive catches I have ever seen in a van.
I has 14" early Holden wheels (14's may have been an update though). It has a 2 and one 8th inch coupling. and wind down stays at the rear that leave the 'foot' at the outer end of the van as opposed to facing the front. On the front are 2 concertina type wind down stays that act in a vertical motion.
I hope to have this van restored soon. It needed 5 new panes of glass and 2 new 90 degree corner ones of poly carbonate as well as new rubbers all round. I have fitted new wheels and tyres and a 2" coupling is waiting to be fitted. It doesnt leak in wild weather but a little paint inside will freshen it up. If I could post photos I would but you can see the pics on Woowoo's post on page 2. Any help in I.D. or year be appreciated. Regards Beetles

G'day from S.A.
Firstly let me apologise to all those who were so poorly treated by the park management.
Our big mistake was to book an ensuit site which was at the other end of the park to the main group. The up side of that was we had somewhere to plug in a spare fridge or 2 while our vans were at the showgrounds. My worst mistake was to lose the towbar tongue for the V.C Safari so I had to settle for Globey on late model Falcon. I found it soon after I got home though and had Globey on Safari at the all Chrysler day on Sunday. There was a lot of interest in it and a few leads too including one for an S series Valiant that is for sale if anyone is interested. Also a Globey. My thanks to those who travelled a long way to attend an S.A. event. It was good to meet some of you and I wish I had met a lot more of the forum members.
Although short of the hoped for 100 vans, there was a good roll up and although the sun almost fried my brain (and body) the day was Vantastic. See you next time. Beetles

I rekon I mentioned the first photo on here quite some time ago or replied to some one elses post on it. I Being a Bailey have had this photo for about 15 years and was always amazed at the height to the top of that boat. It must be about 13- 14 ft. Imagine the wind resistance and the danger of hitting tree branches when going to the river in the 39's. I reckon it would have been unuseable if Dad had tried to tow it to Budgewoi lake in the 50,s and 60,s. I love the shot though. Beetles

Hi Penni I agree with Ray. Do what you wan't but if it is to be restored in the true sense of the word then it must remain as built but that's not everyones taste. I have restored cars but my vans have been modified/renovated/rejuvinated/moderised or whatever changing them is called. Beetles

Hi All I was looking at a thread on carapark coupling where a member was looking for parts for his van's coupling when I remembered this disaster my dad had with his adjustable coupling. He had a 1970 Failane with 100,000 miles on the clock (just run in)and his mate towed their horses to the Warumbungles for an endurance ride over 2 days. For the return trip they filled the tank with petrol and hooked the horse float on and double checked everything. About 2 kms down the road they drove through a paved causway and the horses leaned back which lifted the coupling off the ball. Then it dropped to the road and while dad's mate slowed down, the coupling continued under the car till it reached the end of the chain. Of course while the coupling is sliding along the road it caused sparkes and before it reached the end of the chain the petrol tank was torn open by the brake lever . Result: Two burned horses eventually put down. I burned mate tryng to free horses. All saddles etc. lost in fire Fairlane burned from windscreen back. Horse float burned. Nervous break down for Dad and, his mate was back home in U.S. in 3 days after living here for years. The reason the float came off? Under the adjusting screw and locking nut which were checked by Dad a couple of times is supposed to be the 'tounge' that goes under the ball. WELL IT WASNT THERE! IT HAD BROKEN OFF and fallen in the grass where they unhooked 2 days earlier (some one found it) .
Now who do you know who checks under the coupling on a regular basis? PLEASE DO.
Check the length of your safety chains and make them as short as possible when crosed.
Always cross them.
If you only have one, weld on another so if it comes off it will drop onto the crossed chains and you may not have a big bon fire.
For added safety weld a good sized steel rod in a loop across the front of your 'A' frame and one on your tow bar then fit a 2"'D' shackle between the two. With is set up done right you can turn any angle and the van wont drop if the coupling or the towball fails.
