Hi, thanks to those that have indicated they are interested in going back to Kenilworth for Christmas. At this very early stage I think it's safe to say that we will get enough to book the powered sites again, so today I have gone ahead and done the block booking and paid a deposit for the powered sites. They have requested that I take care of the bookings this time, so once you know your plans just PM me and I will add you to a spreadsheet that can be forwarded to Kenilworth closer to the time. No need to contact them at all, or to pay deposits as it's all taken care of. Will just need to pay on arrival.
Cheers, Dianne

Ha ha Gavin. I usually get us going when we have dramas but he offered to help. What would we do without mates ?
The latest with the new motor is we are pulling it out again tomorrow. It still has really low compression. We thought it might have come right once we drove it but nooo.. Looks like it didn't like sitting around for so long. Hopefully we can get away with a quick hone and rings. Time's running out fast.

Sanding from coarse to fine then polishing should work okay but couldn't you just replace the sheet. If it is stuck on too well and a bit fragile maybe glue another thin sheet of ally over the top and polish that. Cheers. John

Well. We spent today fitting yet another motor in Diannes ute. (three 202s and now on our second 253 V8.) We bought the latest one from a mechanic who said it was rebuilt about two years ago. We started about 8.30 this morning and the new one was back in by 12.00. Pretty easy except the sump, heads and water pump were different so we had to do a few swaps and mods. We tried firing it up and found it had really low compression so we squirted oil down the bores and a can of Startyabarstard down the carby and she finally backfired into life. Next thing was lots of rattles and no oil pressure We pulled the oil pump off the old motor and fitted it. At last, 50 psi and she quietened down really nice. We threw the bonnet back on and took off up the road out of town only to lose power and coast to a stop while putrid smoke came up through the dash. I jumped out and yanked the battery lead off and searched for the problem while Dianne ran 1.5 ks down the road to our mates place. We finally found the main positive wire from the starter had touched the extractors and melted. My mate did a temporary rewire to get me home and it did the trick. Phewww! The motor sounds really nice now, goes good, and doesn't blow smoke. Just needs a good tune up. My mate said we would have the swap done in four hours, well we just doubled that. Cars..... Don't ya luv em ?? And to think we are driving this heap to Cowra in a few weeks.

All nice tow cars! Love 60 Chevs. Used to laugh at one in NZ years ago used as a tow car for a dragster. It had a full size vice bolted on top of the rear gaurds and they used the boot lid for a work bench.

Hi all, Kenilworth Homestead has contacted me today with regard to our tentative booking for Christmas this year. They have been getting enquiries for the powered sites, so want to know if we are definitely going back. They are happy to book that whole area for us again, and I am happy to pay the deposit, but just need some feedback as to whether everyone's interested in going back again.
If you are considering going, please leave feedback now. I won't hold you to it, but just need a rough idea of how many may consider going. No need to make bookings at this stage, will just do a block booking if enough people are interested.
Thanks Dianne

There are no gates so maybe we could just stay. There are toilets nearby and if you have 12v lights or torches what else do you need. Most of us have gas barbecues so cooking won't be a problem. It's a public park so we should be able to park there. Who says we can't have nanna nap? I don't think we will get arrested!

Hey Doug . We have the front guards and bonnet on now . We need all the bump rubbers and the bonnet catch etc to check all the gaps. We had to weld the 10 mm back on the passenger side bonnet edge that had been cut off. (why they did that we don't know) Gaps are looking reasonable but we need all the bits to align it fully.

But everyone knows Volvo hinges are the safest in the world. LOL
Hope there's enough room on the back parcel tray to sit his bowls hat.

Wow, your van is looking really good, well done. Progress is a great feeling isn't it??? I know how you feel about getting the vans identity back on. Even though Jellybean is just a Homebuilt van, we didn't like it not having its name. It was like it was naked Anyway keep up the good work. Cheers Dianne

Hay Gavin. I knew the first time I saw this car and we talked about what you had in mind I knew this was going to be something special. The way it is going it will look pretty close to Aden's rendering. His art is awesome and so is your imagination. It will be a stunner for sure and well worth the wait. Cheers . John

Hi, we were wondering what peoples thoughts are about making this an overnighter at Lawnton Showgrounds after the show. Only about a 10 minute drive up the road. What do you all think? Dianne & John

All panels are now in the first coat of 2k primer. We are now starting to bolt the panels on so we can make adjustments on all the gaps. Starting to look like a car again. Once we are happy with the alignment we will pull it all apart, board file sand the primer then reprime again. Then that has to be block rubbed again ready for the colour. Phew....

I like the last one but maybe with the red and black brought right to the back, finishing where the side starts curving up. Just my opinion...... Cheers. John

We got the last powered site at the Pyramid Caravan Park. Not far from Boyds Bay. It was recommended by a friend who stayed there last year so we will try it this time. He said a lot of rods stayed there and had a good party atmosphere at night. We spend most of the time at Cooly any way so its really just somewhere to sleep. See ya there .

Hi all, thanks for the lovely comments. The door is a little problem, and had we used Jellybean a few times BEFORE we started the fix up, we possibly would have hinged it from the left instead of the right. We haven't put a stop on it yet, so yes it does hit on the window when it's open or the eyebrow Just another of those "little" jobs still on the list "too do". Iris, we still have the tap waiting to go in. As we haven't yet replaced the benchtop (it's still two pieces, due to the fact the bench height used to be split level), so once that's replaced we will fit the tap. Hopefully all that will get done prior to Cowra, but time is running out fast. We were hoping to have the van completely "finished" inside and out before Cowra, but have now resigned to the fact it won't be, so now we just have to prioritize jobs.

Hey Mr Franklin1. We really have not spent that much rebuilding Jellybean. Plywood is cheap and the rest is just screws ,glue, and small stuff. Paint materials were the dearest . Time is free but we spent lots of it so far. We have done everything ourselves apart from electrical. About the towing /pitching thing. No worries . We have towed it with three different cars at 110 ks and you don't know it's there. The short drawbar is fine with such a light van. Just like a box trailer. Hey cobber. We are used to all the dumb questions from the public. We have a teardrop too ! Cheers John.

Hi all, well as promised here a couple of more recent photos of Jellybean. As Doug pointed out, we have a "large" floor plan to work with!!! Still planning the "security camera and intercom system", so we can see and hear when people are at our front door. It's just soooo far from the bedroom John has just fitted the trim on the side of the van today, in preparation for the two tone/stripe (whatever he decides to do) Unfortunately the old kitchen hutch we were given didn't work out as we had hoped, so John ended up just building the kitchen himself. As you can see from the photos, they are still in primer. Cupboard doors only went on the weekend before we took it away to Coolum. Still have to replace the benchtop, and paint, paint and more paint. Still heaps to do before Cowra, but we're getting there slowly. Oh yeah, he had to fix the door today too, cause on our way home from Coolum we went around a couple of roundabouts, and our Esky decided it wanted to get out. Going down the freeway at 110 kph we noticed the door was trying to open Had to stop and tape it up until we got home, cause it stripped the screws from the catch.
