Good to meet you at Cowra Brenten. We are the ones that helped put up your annex when you arrived. We love your matching pair and they look even better in person. You mentioned earlier the front bumper is fibreglass. Is it coated in that new chrome paint or is it actually chrome plated ? I have heard they can electroplate non metal objects now. Cheers. John

Hi Dennis
John and I will definitely try and head up to the surf club around 2.00 pm on Sunday. Hopefully a few others will be able to make it too. Looking forward to catching up with everyone.
See you down there Dianne

Hey Aquamum, LOVE your ute. I'm with you - my ute is Matt purple with LOTS of bubbles, cracks and imperfections, but hey so what??? I love it and drive it everyday, everywhere. If it was all perfect I wouldn't be so keen to drive it and park it at the shops and work etc, so just as long as you're happy it doesn't really matter. Mine even had an internal "water feature" but since getting a broken windscreen on the way back from Cowra it has been fixed, so it doesn't leak there anymore. I just smiled and laughed when people pointed out the water inside the car :-) like you, I knew it was there, but I could live with it. Just enjoy it, which I'm sure you don't need any encouragement to do that.
Cheers, Dianne

Hey Sharon. Maybe talk to Doug . He told me they had unpowered sites today and were quite helpful when he mentioned the VV group. You may have to piggyback power.

We would love to stay at Kirra with you guys but we can't do the minimum 4 days they demand. My boss won't let me have that much time off ! John.

Thanks for the pics Doug. It was another great weekend. Even though it was only ten minutes from home it still felt like we have had another holiday. That show has a good atmosphere especially when there were so many vans with our friends to mingle with. The nights entertainment was good and then four vans moved on to Lawnton showgrounds for a sit around the fire and a few nightcaps. Thanks for the fire Trevor. Just don't split the firewood in front of us again. We were sure you were going to lose a finger. Next morning the 55 decided to spit the starter motor gear on the ground. After towing the Chev and all the vans round the corner to our workshop we unhooked and cruised out to Dayboro for the antique show. Spent about an hour then headed back past the dam and had lunch at the Petrie Historic Village. Nice way to finish the weekend with good company and a lot of laughs. Thanks to all that attended the weekend and thanks to Rod for organising parking and the camp for us.
Cheers John and Dianne.

Hi Rod, we got the ute one last week but not the 55. I rang them Tuesday and they said they had issues with some and that was one of them. Were going to reprint and send but we still haven't got it. I'm going to give them another call today.

Lots of fiddly time consuming work going on there. It has been a massive project that not too many could attempt. It must be getting close to filling and priming soon I hope. Looking good !

Looks like you guys are still having fun. Wish we could have stayed on the road with you a lot longer. The trip to Cowra was one to remember (car trouble and all ). We are feeling restless already and can't wait for our next campout. Happy birthday Barb. Cheers . John and Dianne

Hi all, well we made it home from Cowra just after lunch today. The motor held up, just a few stops along the way to let it stop its rattling, and off we'd go again. Did have one hiccup along the way though. A truck travelling the other way threw up a rock, which our windscreen copped - unfortunately. Had to get the gladwrap out of Jellybean and tape up the window. This happened about 750 km from home, so it made for an interesting trip home. We kept getting Gladwrap "blowouts" when trucks went by the other way, so we had to stop and do plenty of repairs. Thanks to Linda & Peter for stopping to offer assistance. Anyway, it was all worthwhile. We had a great time in Cowra - thanks to the organisers. The highlight for us was the roadtrip down, travelling with a great group of friends, and going to Bathurst and doing a couple of laps was awesome. Heres a few more piccies from our week. Lunch stop on the way down to Cowra The barn find This was a bit "different" Well, can't wait for the next trip now - just have to find a replacement windscreen first. Cheers Dianne & John

Spent tonight zip tying hoses, wires out of harms way . Triple checked clamps ,leaks and things that shouldn't come loose. Oil, water all good. One new tyre on the front fitted. New plugs fitted. Then washed the ute and Jelly bean and thought that was a waste of time as they will be covered in bugs and dirt when we get there. Got to look good on the way I spose !!!. Diannes been packing stuff and sorting last minute essentials. Can't wait to get out of the rat race !!!
Cheers John and Dianne. Seeya there.

The cab and front guards got sealer primer/black on Thursday. Overall looks pretty good. It shows where we have to concentrate on when we block rub for final coats of black. I will get the rest of the panels in sealer/primer next week so the boys can block rub while we are at Cowra. Hopefully when I get back it will be nearly ready to spray. Has been a huge job but we are nearly there. If we hadn't spent a couple of days on Clydes Fairlane it would have been all done..... NOT !!! Cheers . John

Thanks frogprincess, Jellybean is a rather long 8' 4" We absolutely love it, and are so grateful the previous owner agreed to sell it. That's why I say talk to everyone. Jellybean wasn't for sale, but I just knocked on the door and asked and the owner agreed to sell. So don't lose heart, just keep looking and talking. The right van will be out there somewhere just waiting for you to discover it. In the meantime why don't you come along to one of our gatherings to meet and talk with some of the group. You never know who knows of something coming up for sale. I think our next get together will be when some vintage vans will be on display at Strathpine at Rodz Rock 'n Roll at the end of May (see thread in Runs and Events). There's also Gasoline & Garterbelts at Tamborine in early May, but I'm not sure how many vans will make that due to the Nationals being on the same week. Dianne

Hi and welcome to the forum. There are definitely vans sitting around in people's back yards. We found our "Jellybean" in a yard at Deception Bay, on Brisbane's Northside. However, chances are if it's a Bondwood and it's sitting outside in a yard, it will probably need some work done to it Good luck with your search, and I say talk to anyone who will listen, and one day someone might know someone who has that little van that's looking for a new home. You never know who may be able to help. Cheers Dianne

Hey Reddo. Yes it is the same 55 that was matt black at Maroochydore. I remember you well. That was our first camp with the mob and look what it did to us. Another van and another tow car. Can't get enough of it !
I'm sure the ol ute will get us there and back.
Cheers . John

We took the ute for a drive today and is going really well with the old original 253 back in. Jamie my mechanic just polished the crank and put new bearings in without disturbing the pistons etc. The oil pressure is better than it was and we are confident it will do the trip OK now. At least it starts easily, runs smooth and doesn't fume or smoke. Yaaaaay.

Another great easter at Millmeran been and gone. 146 entrants including about 9 vans from our group. Caught up with heaps of rodders and vanners and had the best weather ever. Met Andrews Ma and Pa and went for a cruise in their 34 Chev around the back streets of Millmerran checking out old car bodies and one of the locals 55 Chevs being rebuilt. We were going to tow Jellybean with Diannes ute but the new 253 is no good and will be pulled out again. We towed with the 55 instead and it ran like clockwork . i made a mockery of the driving events on the grass trying to navigate around witches hats. We missed the first corner and ended up in a cloud of dust doing doughnuts much to the crowds amusement. Then they wet the dust down and made it a slippery mud hole. Stan went much better than us in his EJ Wagon. Great fun! Anyway ,I hope everyone made it back home safefully. Di had a missing hinge bolt in the Propert causing the body to go a bit out of wack and Geoff and Della had only front brakes on their supercharged 32 sedan towing their van back down the range. Apart from that I think we all had good time. Now we have to get Diannes ute sorted for the Cowra trip and get the 55 ready to race at the drags next weekend. The things we do ! John.

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone might be able to give me some advice on this jug I found at a garage sale recently. I was wondering if it is one that can be put on a gas burner, due to the fact it has rings on the base? Has anyone else got one and if so what do they use it for? Both the exterior and interior are anodised. Thanks Dianne

Update. All the panelwork is finished, and the panel gaps are good. All pulled apart again now. We mounted the cab to a frame on wheels so we can push it into the booth. The next step is a primer/sealer coat then on with some black. Block rub again then final black finish coat. Cheers. John
