Hi all I'm bringing a couple of kg of chicken pieces for Sat night, so can either bbq them or camp oven them. We'll also bring the Weber bbq with lid, in case there's not enough camp oven/bbq space. Do you need any more firewood?Looks like the weather is going to be great. Just phoned C/park to ask re dogs, guy very friendly, said we will just about fill them up. They're prepared for music, campfire etc on Sat night. There's a fridge in camp kithchen,& the shop has grog bread etc "you won't starve here".

Hi Mr & Mrs Humpty
Great job with the canvas.
Thanks for the picture of the step, it looks like it's fixed rather than flipping over, then slides in underneath.

Hi Ray Sorry for not answering sooner, but have been offlined by Bigpond since 2 Jan. The Watson van at Coffs is definitely a 1965 build. Our Propert is 5/261 & has original no. plate & rego date from 1965, & the serial numbers stamped into ply under the Propert plate at back left (will take photo soon).
All our Propert details (round windows, back left elliptical window etc) are the same as the Watson van. As we pull more of the "renos" off our van we are discovering that many of the mods were probably done later rather than sooner, such as water tank under floor, roof hatch & back step. We're keeping all those things as we think they were definite improvements, but trashing many of the other things such as fridge, heavy stove, large sink, & zillions of useless little cupboards.
We also have a large light annex that mostly covers the roof. Yes Ray, will take photos soon!

Hi Paul
We've just got online again after a month of Bigpond messups, so I've phoned & booked a site for that weekend at Wadeville.

Hi Humpty Doing great work there on your Castle. Could you post a photo of the folding step, if possible. Our Castle is missing its step but still has the sliding mechanism, so would be helpful to see a step.

We called in today to look at the Propert at Watsons caravans, Coffs Harbour on our way Down South to pick up the Castle. The serial no is 5/257, so that fits in with the numbering system (means it was built in 1965). It's a great little van, we think the canvas poptop section is original, the canvas had really old clips, it all fitted perfectly. It's very original inside, eg cupboards, cushions, paintwork etc. we gulped when the young guy in the showroom said they were about to do it up! Cathie & Robert

Thanks for sharing this wonderful story of your family and the van with the forum.
Please don't rush the resto, just enjoy the flood of memories that will come for you now. Plenty of time to ply the ply down the track.

Hi all We're definitely be coming to this gathering! We'll probably be coming in the ute so we can bring the Overlander (no brakes as yet), so we can bring some wood in back of the ute. How big do you want the logs? unsplit? We can bring a logsplitter/axe. Chainsaw? let us know what size firewood is best.
We can bring veges, spuds, sweet potato, pumpkin etc. We have a Dutch oven...is that the same as a camp oven? Or is it a legless camp oven! Could bring roast beef if Dutch oven is OK. Cheers Cathie

We'll DEFINITELY be there as we're only 20 minutes away. Sounds great fun!
The best bbq site in the world (trust me!) is in the Border Ranges National Park at the Tweed Lookout. You are on the edge of the escarpment looking straight across at Mt Warning sitting in the caldera. can I suggest a bbq expedition one day?
I've got Canungra on the calendar, in my diary etc so am determined to get there too. We haven't got to any of your gatherings yet, basically cause we have a farm & something always comes along, which also means we never get the van finished ready for the BIG EVENT either. Looks like we'll have to come in a UFO (Unfinished Object)!

Really nice Property you got yourself there!
yes you need to get that plate as Ray said. The serial number is stamped into the ply underneath the plate, but it's better to have the plate.

We'll pull the chrome edging off the table & see what's happening with all the layers, thanks minicamper.
Next thought then is that we don't worry about taking the wooden back off the laminex table (it's not delaminating & is all in good nick), if the laminex doesn't come away with its ply layer easily from the wood.
Just saw the laminex table up, wooden back n all, into pieces suitable for the van for small table, benchtop, etc then either reinforce with glued wooden laths under bottom edges then reuse chrome strip screwed around the edges. Whadya rekon?
Might be a bit heftier than straight laminex but so what.
What's the best method of cutting then? Circular saw, cutting from the wooden side down to prevent chipping of the laminex or fine jigsaw blade cutting from behind as well?

Hi all We have an old table with great red laminex (bought by chance from a VVer) & we want to use it in a van. Does anyone know if there is a solvent that will loosen the contact glue between old laminex and wood, so the laminex can be reused? Were the old glues water based ? Does old laminex go brittle with age? What is the best glue for reusing the laminex, especially so water doesn't affect it? Sikaflex? better glues than that? thanks Cathie & Rob

Hi all I googled dog friendly parks Gold Coast hinterland. There's 2 on the road to Mt Tamborine...Thunderbird Park, & Mt Tamborine Caravan Park. I can't imagine towing caravans up the road to the top of Mt Tamborine (and you'd be having a death wish to take a van up Henri Roberts Drive from the other side) so I guess they must be near the bottom somewhere on the way in from the highway near Beenleigh. Sound nice for bush breaks, creeks, rock pools, wood fires at 1 of them. Does anyone know about either of these?

Hi Dosse The red laminex is just lovely. Currently it's legless but still standing (in a corner of the shed that is). Before we attempt anything radical I think I'd better start a new thread about any clues for cutting into old laminex. Look forward to meeting you all, hopefully at the 12th get together. Unfortunately the end May "get together" clashes with our farm schedule. And our resto is pretty slowwwww going. It's taken me a year to make the cushion covers!

There should be a lot of caravan parks between the border and Brisbane. What about Bribie Island? Burleigh Heads? Tallebudgera?

For anyone who missed it, there's a repeat of the Collectors on Monday at 6.05pm on ABC2. The black/white grainy looking shot of the Coledale get together in 2008 was cute.

We've never been to any of your gatherings yet, but it sounds like you will be a bunch of Lucky Ducks up there at Maroochydore. Sounds like you will have a great time! We recently bought a lovely red laminex table off Ebay from people who turned out to be Vintage vanners and they're off to Maroochydore as well! Unfortunately we're in the middle of planting now. Have a great time, hopefully we will meet you all, next get together! Cheers Cathie & Rob

Try looking at Marmoleum, it's the 'new' name for lino. Some of the patterns are really retro, and gorgeous in my opinion. Have a look at the designs on the web. More expensive than vinyl but lino is made from natural materials such as desiccated cork etc
