Hello to all you Vin/Vaners in SE Queensland and Northern NSW, I have a suggestion for our next outing on the south side of the border! Only just on the south side though and you'll be able to see your beloved Qld. from the comfort of your Vin/Van. Its called The Border Ranges Centre, previously known as Wadeville Woolies and before that (and before my time here) Eric,s Emporium. Maybe you'll know it? Its a very pleasant drive up the Tweed Valley from Murwillumbah (45 k's) or over the hills from Kyogle (23 k's). They love dogs, children, Camp fires and will even throw in their own sing-along with their own musical instruments. Laundry, showers, toilets, camp kitchen, disabled facilities, and its only two klicks from our home. (Drop in and check out Harganville.) Nimbin with its market is only 15 k's away and the Border Ranges National Park is the same distance. (Finding a garage sale for the girls could present a bit of a challenge but they'll manage! The website is www.borderrangescentre.com.auAddress is 163 Link Road. Wadeville. 2474. NSW. Phone/Fax is 02 66 897285 Cost is $22 per night for a powered site and they are happy for us all to piggy-back the power and the more Vin/Vans that attend the cheaper the rates will become! Your hosts are, Lee & Leone Scarlett and Roger & Kate Eurell Chew it over and think of a weekend that fit in with all concerned. In the meantime I'll some more flyers for it and see you all at Canungra Paul & Yoko.

Hi VVers Sounds good not far from home for me, might have Olympic Riviera chassis no. 35 finished by then and put it on show. It appears to be one of the first built. Would we have this outing late Feb./March ??. Cheers boblor

Hi Paul & Yoko,
Sounds good to me as its only half hour trip.
I had planned to try to get an event happening around Casino Beef Week next year, which is last weekend in May.There is normally plenty of accomodation at the Mobile Home Village, & lots to do & see.
But if you're concept came off early in the year there should be no reason why both wont work. Anyway yours was suggested first, so in this democracy it takes precedent over mine.
I look forward to going feral for the weekend.

We'll DEFINITELY be there as we're only 20 minutes away. Sounds great fun!
The best bbq site in the world (trust me!) is in the Border Ranges National Park at the Tweed Lookout. You are on the edge of the escarpment looking straight across at Mt Warning sitting in the caldera. can I suggest a bbq expedition one day?
I've got Canungra on the calendar, in my diary etc so am determined to get there too. We haven't got to any of your gatherings yet, basically cause we have a farm & something always comes along, which also means we never get the van finished ready for the BIG EVENT either. Looks like we'll have to come in a UFO (Unfinished Object)!

Hey, it was only a suggestion and already there are eight customers chaffing at the bit!!! Nimbin market is, I think, first/third/fifth Sunday in the month but I'll check on that and post it here. Nimbin is a market 365 days a year depending on your shopping list So, the first weekend of March would be good (5th. 6th. 7th. March) tentatively. Dosse has offered to help with the organisation as I am a virgin to Vin/Van weekends. So, let us here dates and we'll get cracking with the bosses down the road. We can have a pow-wow at Canungra over a bottle. Hear from yoos all. Paul & Yoko

Paul, Sounds like a goer. The road south is a bit easier now. Sutcac. You are right about the mobile home park at Casino. I stayed there on the Variety bash last year and whilst I felt a bit lost in a tent and Hillman on the powered sites did find it had some great facilities. The RSL at Casino was a good meal so maybe a May weekend there but I am going to propose we do a Sunshine Coast event between these two. At Mudjimba. No big event like last year but in March/April to enjoy the Sunshine and beach. Rollydog

Sorry Banno, I read it all in hurry, noticed the "markets were probably on the 1st 3rd and 5th Sunday of the month and the first weekend of March would be good (5th. 6th. 7th. March) tentatively". So I jumped the gun and assumed March was the go, never mind then, all of the other weekends I'll be working part or all of so anything will suit. I'll just have to take some holidays or do some wheelin and dealin to make it happen.

Hi All,
With the markets, the one at The Channon is by far the largest of the two, & has been one of the best tourist attractions in the area for over 25 years, possibly longer.
I rember going there not long after we arrived on the north coast in 1980.
By comparison the Nimbin markets are much more low key, sorta like a lot of the Nimbin residents. Totally different to each other. I went to Nimbin a couple of times over the years, but still go to The Channon every 6 or 8 months for a blow out.

Allo JBJ, Of course you are right re the Channon market , it is HUGE! So how about making the 14th getogether on the second Sunday of March as 'Rollydog' has getogether 13.5 down for the first weekend in February (5,6,7th) at Maroochydore north??. The drive from here to Channon is also spectacular and going through Nimbin one can score on the way!!?? See what the folks think of that idea??? Phargans

Hi All,
Lets get this one moving. I've emailed Phargan about it, with the suggestion that if the markets become one of the features of the get together, then maybe the weekend should extend to include Sunday, which is the day the local markets are held.
You city slickers will be hornswoggled ( I hope thats spelt right) by the local markets. So what about, to help Phargan out with a date, we get a preference between a laid back small country market (Nimbin) or a pretty full on Country Market (The Channon.) Both are on Sundays, & have great tucker, & unique lifestyle entertainment on show.
They are on different weekends, so maybe this needs to be decided first.
I'll now leave this thread to everyone, with Paul & Yoko to organise as they wish.

Hi Paul Cheryl will enjoy going to either of the markets so we will be there whichever is chosen. If we need to choose then 13th/14th March and do The Channon markets. Neil & Cheryl

"High" all, Border Ranges Centre would like to settle on a date for the getogether as they will close all other bookings for our weekend and will have the place to ourselves. Dennis has suggested the 12th, 13th, 14th and a visit to the Channon market on the Sunday for those who wanna get down and dirty with the great unwashed hippies of the area. Or the marketahollicks amongst us can stay the extra night and toddle home on the Monday. Any advance on that weekend for a booking? Phargan Hargan

Hi Paul,
That weekend in MARCH appears OK, I think it shouldnt clash with school holidays, etc., but I havent checked the calender.
I think you should confirm it with the owners. Do they require a booking fee?? If so we could collect that at Canungra if neccessary.
Good to have it sorted.

and about the channon markets, they do suggest "not to take your pets" into the showgrounds (just so you know early).
and if you really want to exhaust yourself that day, after the market you could continue on to the national park to visit Minyon Falls. Marvelous drive -totally exhausting.
and also, if you go via Nimbin, take the bitumen road to the Channon which is further south of Nimbin. (dont take the gravel road directly at Nimbin - "rough as guts"
Phil. p.s. they have been known to cancel in bad weather so check their number on a wet day. Hope to see you there in a V.V.

'High' All, Tell you what I'll do........I'll put my hairy little Hobit foot down with the magority and call it the second weekend of March 12th, 13th, and the 14th for them as want to 'do' Channon Market. I'm sure there'll be no problems with staying an extra night and getting away on the Monday for the un employed, retired ammongst us? Seems like the bulk of folk are OK with that weekend??? I'll give it a few days for any protest hearings, and then book it. So, by Saturday of this week (7th. Nov.) Oh! and Don't nobody worry about wood, we live in the forrest and I'll get a trailer load over there. Cheers! phargan Hargan
