Yes, I saw that listing, and it reminded me of Paul and Yoko's Hunter Minor all those years ago (and which I see in this recent seqvintagecaravanmob post [about halfway down in another one of Doug's very colourful posts] that Paul and Yoko's van is now yellow). What has always stuck with me about P & Y's van is how they found the build date written on the underside of the aluminium drip strip above the window. Made me realise you can't discount anything in your search for the origins of your van. The listed one would be a handy size for you Ray. No worries about having to store this one outside. Park it under your bed, I reckon. cheers, Al.

Well done Ray, I was hoping you would jump in before somebody else grabbed it. The new photos of the interior indicate it looks as good as the outside. Good luck when you pick it up.... and stick it under the bed Cobber.

Wow! Well done Ray. I briefly spoke to the lady about this beauty but it was too far away for me to travel. I'm so pleased that she's gone to a genuine VV lover. Enjoy being the envy of all who see you travelling with her ?

You do wonder why someone would go to the trouble of this beautiful signwriting and then get it all wrong!!! For starters, it's not a Carapark but Caravanpark Ltd. Also, it can't be a 1941 van, when the factory wasn't even started till 1945 or thereabouts, especially when it is actually registered as a 1946 year of manufacture (not that THAT is gospel either) The icebox is for cobber to have a sticky!!! If there is anybody driving this site, could this file please be moved to Members' Photo Album?

G'day Ray, That really is a 'cute' little caravanpark caravan (I hope you don't mind me saying that) and I thank you for the ice box photo, (are they non slot headed screws holding the catch on ? I hope you don't mind me mentioning that ) I can't move the thread to 'Members photos' but I will pinch the ice box photo for that thread, and I might pinch the photo of the awning for that thread too How about a photo of the tow coupling please for that thread and one of the tea towel rail for that thread (if there is room enough inside the van for one of those ) And while you're at it a photo of the sink pump for the galley pump thread would be good .. in fact I'm particularly interested in your sink, it appears to be similar to the one in Driftwood and... the only other one I have noticed was in Marks 'Janaway II ' so as I have suspected.......maybe they were a Caravanpark accessory available to the home builder ? Anyway....Speaking about "anybody driving this site" I wish they could get the forums 'search facilities' working Cobber.

Van is all wrapped up at the moment, cobber, so can't take any more pics till August. The tow coupling is a modernish 50mm coupling, so not much point there. I thought there was a TT rail, but will let you know. I was assured by Mrs Previous Owner that the non-slothead screws were definitely pre-1950's screws, but she couldn't find Mr Phillip's letter attesting to that. But she had a very honest face, so it must be true.

In fact Caravanpark started well before that. R J Rankin, the founder of Caravanpark, began producing caravans in Maitland in 1928 and founded the Caravanpark company well before WW II. During the late 30's, Caravanpark also had a factory in Sydney opposite the Propert factory. I'm not necessarily suggesting that your Hunter Minor was built in 1941, only that Caravanpark was certainly operating back then. Don Ricardo

Hi DonR
Good to see that you're still at your sleuthing best! I obviously hadn't read the bit you quoted as it had been quite a while since I looked at the Crarpark info thoroughly.
But I do think that the Hunter Minor can't be a 1941 construction. In the Our Touring Past info on the Carapark, it says this about the Hunter Minor:
"Realising that there was a great number of light cars in Australia, and that it seems apparent that caravans would be required for this particular field, the company had commenced production of two new models. The Hunter Junior 3 birth for cars of 10 hp rating and Hunter Minor 2 birth for 8-10 hp. Both of these models were marketed in 1949 and performed very well, both in private use and in commercial hire fleets."
So from that, even the 1946 date on the rego papers of my van is most likely incorrect. My only hope now is to have a lucky find as phargen did when he removed the rain sill on his van.
Ray
