All of the sites that were booked or on hold have now been filled . If anyone else would like to join us please call the caravan park and ask to be put near the Vintage van group .
Don't forget Saturday is the cake/slice making "competition" . All entries must have Arnott biscuits as one of the ingredients . I have only had one person put their hand up to be a judge , don't tell me I have to force people to take on this very important role 😄.
Not long now ,

The October run may include a detour to Shellharbour, all going well. Cheers. Ray hi ray can you let us know if and what days asap so we can slot you in with all the others. it would be a shame to see such a unique and impressive build ending up surrounded by white boxes. geoff 'n jude

Just a quick reminder re Shellharbour , if you haven't paid your deposit could you please do so . For our Saturday afternoon entertainment this year Sue suggested we all make a cake or a slice with Arnotts biscuits as one of the ingredients . These delicious treats will be judged by a panel of unbiased judges ( if I can find any ), and then consumed for afternoon tea . Any other suggestions for ideas to keep us entertained greatly appreciated, the card making was lots of fun last year .

hi don and donna
congratulations on your "baby's" 70th birthday, you both must be very proud parents (or siblings maybe).
now, getting down to business, judy and i have discussed the situation and we're prepared to offer you £750/10/0 for the old Don, that's a little more than 20% profit on the original price of £624/12/6, much better returns than you will get from any of the big banks or current financial institutions.
no need to answer straight away, think it over and give us a ring (we can be a little flexible on the offer if necessary).
hear from you soon.

I am very late posting the Shellharbour info this year , I have been trying to sort a few things out.
I had a couple of requests to move the dates to include the Jamberoo Car show, which as far as i can work out falls on the last Sunday in October. It was too late to change the dates this year, but all future years have been changed. I'm not sure how the dates changed as we were originally there for the car show. Unfortunately we have lost a couple of sites and I will talk to the people affected about this, all sites are OK for this year.
This years dates are Wednesday 16th - Wednesday 23rd October. The number to call is 4295 1123 to pay your deposit and let the park know which days you will be there.
Looking forward to seeing you all there and fingers crossed we might just get some nice weather for a change.

Gday Nev This site covers pre 1970 caravans, you might be better joining our cousins the classic caravans.com website, which covers post 1970 vans. They'll be sure to be able to help you with parts sourcing. regards Jennison the forum site is ditzygypsy.proboards.com for the classic caravan group. geoff 'n jude

it's really starting to look the goods now ray.
think you'd better talk to judy pretty soon to get a spot reserved for shellharbour in october so all we southerners can have a good old geek at it (and try to spot the built in error that deflects from the real errors, not that we think there will be any real errors).

howdy all just got back from having the car on the hoist and it's all good. as the rock passed through, it hit a rear oxygen sensor that made the "check engine" caution come on in the dash. it's getting fixed tomorrow so $100 or bit more sorts it all out. caused a few dents and other damage but nothing worth fixing. geoff 'n jude

howdy all well, we're back from stockton beach after a great 5 days with good friends. we spent most of the time telling yarns, laughing and having a few beers. at great expense, john had organised for the "empress of the seas" to sail into newcastle harbour sunday morning and leave late sunday afternoon, it was a spectacle to see it sail into harbour and when it left, they fired 3 cannon shots from fort scratchly 'over it's bows". the weekend started badly for us when i ran over our neighbour's clothesline while reversing into my site costing me $60 to replace but it finished much worse after an incident on the m7 on the way home. we were following two 4 wheel drives along the motorway at about 95k's, they drove over a large piece of granite that had fallen from a truck and was sitting in the middle of the lane. because of their height, neither had actually touched it, but the commodore being much lower was immediately going to be in trouble. there was nothing i could do and no time to avoid it so over it we went, much crashing and banging as it bounced and rolled under the car. nothing seemed to be wrong, the car was still driving ok but we stopped at the next truck layback to have a look underneath and saw a few sratches and dents underneath but nothing serious so we decided to continue on home. moments later the engine management light came on and the computer told us to check the engine so we pulled into the next truck layback and this is the result. (the blue heeler breed continues to survive.) waited about 2 hours for the truck but he bought us back home safely so that's good, we thought. gunna take it up to get the computer checked tomorrow find out what's wrong. because the wagon was a bit sus, our neighbour offered to back the caravan into it's spot and while doing that backed it into our front stone wall and smashed the left rear clearance light and damaged the left rear corner of the van. we left stockton at about 10am and got home about quarter past 5, all in all though, it was a great weekend. geoff 'n jude

I have searched high & low for how to make a poll on proboards & it appears one cannot create a poll on this particular forum Can someone in admin verify this for me? you can only create a poll if you have administrative "powers". Conducting polls can be fun and useful for surveying a forum community's opinion about different subjects. If forum administrators have assigned the appropriate privileges, you will find an Add Poll button when creating a new thread. www.proboards.com/user-guide/posting/pollgeoff 'n jude (not in admin)

Next thing are the windows. Need to paintstrip, polish, re-rubber and clean glass. How long will that take guys and girls.... I think one whole day. There are eight of them. things are moving along nicely kerrie, you must feel pretty good about the progress. i don't want to throw a wet blanket on things but one whole day, each maybe. i started polishing the windows on the roadie and after an hour of hard yakka on one window, i decided that being (highly) polished might be a bit overkill so i decided to leave them all as antique/rustic. now i have to wait for the semi shiny one to "go off" to match the others. geoff 'n jude ps - when you steel wool the panels, make sure you use plenty of "real soap" (not detergent) on the pads and that will give a better finish with less scrub marks.

howdy all we were driving home from a doctor's visit for judy this afternoon and a news report said there was a storm brewing and people should move their cars from under trees to prevent them from being damaged by falling branches. well, we got home and had lunch and at about 4:30 the storm came and went in about 10 minutes without any problems to any vehicles that were out the front, thank god. you can probably guess where we're heading here. at 10 to 6 in perfectly calm weather, there was a loud crack, followed closely by a deep and "sickening thud". we went out to have a look and the van seemed ok but lying beside it was a piece of angophra tree that had broken off and was "just leaning on the roof". wow, that was lucky (we thought) and moved it out of the way so we could look under the cover and inside the van. well, it was lucky, but unfortunately, the luck was all bad. this time it not only punched a hole in the caneite roof, but it also smashed one of the exposed double curved roof rafters in two pieces. we're getting pretty experienced at repairing the canite roof sections so this repair on the curved rafter will be a new experience. all this happened 6 days earlier than the last year's event, so we've got more time to fix it up before our annual holiday break. as jailbar often said, it's all good fun. geoff 'n jude

howdy all we have two caravan fridges to give away absolutely free - yes, we did say free, but only while stocks last and you must decide before wednesday close of business. if no-one wants them, they're going on the council cleanup thursday morning. the first is a gas only morphy richards astral from about 1955 taken out of the old aerolite we once owned. it is H=825 x W=520 x D=495 it worked before we took it out of the van but it has been sitting around since 2012 so who knows if it's still working. it is in good condition on the outside and the inside. we were going to use the body and fit a modern compressor system to it but never got around to it. every picture tells a story. the second is a three way electrolux model R136E from around the sixties we got about 10 years ago from an old friend who used it as a bar fridge. it is H=730 x W=510 x D=570 it was working on 240v then but i don't know about 12v or gas. it looks a bit rough on the outside but the inside is in good condition. pick-up from grays point, sydney or if you arrange all the details i will hold it for courier pick-up. i know it's going to be hard for you to resist a deal like this, but remember, there are lots of caravaners out there thinking about it too, so get in early to save disappointment. say yes here and we can arrange final details through pm. geoff 'n jude

Does one NEED to prewash the calico before fitting it? well ray, when we calico'd the aerolite, we didn't bother to pre-wash/shrink the material, we simply painted it on with a heavy coat of paint. two things resulted. firstly, the surface of the calico was a bit "fluffy" because it wasn't washed but that was fixed by light sanding before the second coat. secondly, there were no folds or puckering, presumably because as the first coat dried, it might have shrunk slightly and tightened the material. either way, not washing the calico didn't cause any significant problem in the long run. geoff 'n jude

howdy all
is anybody else having a problem when you select "Recent Posts" on the forum.
i can access any thread from the "home menu" or through "new topics" but when i attempt to use "recent posts", i get a big red message saying "Deceptive site ahead" and the menu bar displays "Dangerous|Vintagecaravans.proboards.com/posts/recent".
is it just my computer or is it a proboards problem.
ps. it doesn't happen on the classic forum site.

pps. when i click on the above link, i also get the Deceptive site ahead message, do you?
