howdy all we've just spent the last couple of weeks rubbing back the ritz and giving her a bit of botox and a facelift to bring her into the new decade. the botox has really made her bum look nice! we're waiting to get the new roadmaster and ritz decals but that will be a little while yet. she'll get her first outing in public at shellharbour next week. see you (all?) there. geoff 'n jude

I have been in contact with the caravan park by email , phones are still really busy . All sites and dates are confirmed and for this year only they are happy to accept payment in full on arrival , quite a few of us haven't paid a deposit due to the uncertainty of the event going ahead. It will be a much smaller group this year and I haven't as yet found out what social distancing rules might still be in place . I will post any more info I gather .
See you all soon ,

If judy hasn't rung you yet, please let us know if you are still going by answering here instead of ringing the park. We'll find out soon if deposits are required or not. Jude 'n Geoff

I have been keeping in touch with Julie at Shellharbour and at this stage they are still under Covid19 restrictions which means it isn't looking good for our annual get together. All the park managers can do is check the NSW Health Guidelines each day and hope for a change . It has been mentioned that some parks are open and some not . It all depends on the council that covers each area and some parks are still privately run and choose to risk opening up. The penalty for breaching these rules is $55,000 and I can understand Mark and Julie sticking to the rules. These shutdowns have cost them a lot of money and they are very disappointed they can't be open for us.
We have booked all the sites for 2021 and anyone who has paid can either transfer their money to next year or ask for a refund if we don't get to go this year . I can understand this is difficult for people who have to take time off work etc and I am sorry I can't give you a more positive answer.
There is a statement on the parks website explaining all the current restrictions, we can only live in hope that things will change in the next few weeks .

Given the caravan and the car, I assume Mr Short wasn't a labourer working for the minimum wage! I'm not sure what the tow vehicle is, but it's a very nice machine. hi richard i reckon you're right there. the car looks to be a 1935 hudson terraplane which was a bit above the average for a car selling in those days. It looks like the Short's caravan has its door on the wrong side. hi ray if you look at both the photos of the hudson, you'll notice it has only one windscreen wiper, and in both photos, the wiper is on the left hand side, suggesting both cars are left hand drive. left hand drive would be fairly rare in 1939 in australia, so i reckon the photo in the paper is simply an "accidental" reverse image of a right hand drive car (and caravan), meaning the caravan door would actually be on the left side of the caravan. geoff 'n jude

Hi All,
I have been holding off posting about this year's Shellharbour get together due to the dreaded Covdid 19 restrictions.
Please be assured all sites are re-booked and held for us every year, this is the last thing I do before I leave each year. I also put a few spare sites on hold in case we have extra starters.
There was some talk last year of moving the weekend back one week to coincide with the Jamberoo Car Show. After talking to most people it was left the same. Some people wanted to be able to put their cars in the show, some wanted to go to Kurri Kurri etc, too many variables to work with.
At this stage the caravan park is not answering the phones but will call you back if you leave a message or send an email. They are happy to take deposits and will hold them over until next year if the weekend doesn't go ahead.
They are waiting to hear if caravan park restrictions will be eased. As the restrictions currently stand they can only accommodate self contained vans and that certainly excludes the majority of us. They have had to block off every second shower, toilet and basin which cuts down the number available. There are quite a few permanent vans in the park and they are given priority to use the amenities as they pay fees all year.
I do hope this explains why I have been holding off posting and unfortunately I can't give you a definite answer if we can go ahead yet. I speak to Julie frequently and will update everyone the moment I hear any relevant info.
Sadly Mark and Julie are moving on to go and live on their beautiful property on the North Coast of NSW. They finish up 30/9/2020 and will be a very hard act to follow as far as managers go.
Any questions please ask away.

Also found, in the wiring but not connected at the plug, a heavier guage wire in yellow and green, im thinking maybe fridge wire, or possibly the 12v power source, although im inclined to think fridge. There is currently only a 240v fridge in the van. be careful, yellow and green wire is usually an earth wire for 240 volt systems. if you're not sure what you're doing, don't do it. geoff 'n jude

hi mark
if the fault in the seat is only minor, you can sometimes repair it simply by dropping the ball back onto the seat and giving the ball a couple of good solid taps with a (flat bottomed) punch.
obviously this can only be done if the seat is softer than the ball, which i expect it is.
another option is to glue, solder or braze a ball onto a bit of round bar and lap the seat in a similar way to lapping in car valves.

Not long to go now until we all start heading to Shellharbour and as usual I seem to have upset the weather gods at this stage , we can only hope it improves . Has everyone been practising baking their favourite cake or slice using Arnotts biscuits as an ingredient , I hear a certain guy from up around Newcastle way has been having lessons . We have two judges so far and I am certain we can persuade one more person to help with the taste testing. See you all soon Jude & Geoff

Thank you Judy ( Mrs Koala) that sounds like fun, you are very brave to " volunteer ' again after dealing with us last year . It was a bit like a kindergarten craft class Maybe run the card making from 1.00 -3.00pm , then have our amazing cullinary creations for afternoon tea . Does that suit everyone ? Jude & Geoff
