hi richard and hughdeany strange things do happen. here's a photo of our 1965 van when we bought it from adelaide. originally it was painted between the windows and the upper and lower sections were unpainted aluminium as were all the roadies of that time. when we met larry, he remembered the van and told us that in 1972 (i think), the owner was crossing a creek (towing with a humber super snipe) and rolled the van. when he took it in for repairs, the original siding wasn't available any longer, so roadmaster re-clad it with the current (1972) siding which apparently was the white acrylic painted type. last year i decided to rub the white back to bare aluminium but after about three hours and maybe 1 sq metre, i decided it was too much like hard work and repainted the van. geoff 'n jude

Hi all , I have been waiting for info as to whether Shellharbour will be able to go ahead this year and today it was confirmed that it is a no go . I have spoken to the park and they aren’t allowed to open until we reach 80% vaccinations 😢 . At this stage Kim has transferred all of our bookings and deposits to next year to secure our sites , if you don’t want to leave your deposit on your site you can request a refund . If you do decide on a refund there is no guarantee your site will be available next year as NRMA run to the rules and sites can’t be held without deposits

Hi Curly52, Not sure if you saw my reply to your PM, but I think the person with the Olympic stickers you are referring to was Bob Taylor (Boblor on the forum), but unfortunately he died a couple of years ago. Don Ricardo hi curly52 richard over at "our touring past" was given all of bob taylor's olympic history, including all of the stickers that bob had made up. you can see them here, www.ourtouringpast.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1066&p=5641&hilit=olympic#p5641 and then contact richard through his forum. geoff 'n jude

We are saddened to let you know that Maurie Cole passed away last night after a long battle with cancer.
Maurie, alias MRFJ55, was a member of this group for more than 16 years and was well known and respected within the vintage caravan community.
He was a larrikin, bubbly and always ready to give you a hand when things went wrong.
We remember when we attended our first get together at Coledale back in 2006, Maurie came over to us while we were setting up, introduced himself and then gave us a hand with the set-up.
And who could forget the great banter and fun he and I had when we held those charity auctions at Coledale.
He had a personality and enthusiasm that was larger than life and will be sadly missed by the fraternity.
Jude and I offer our most sincere condolences to Kate, Maddison, Robbie, Imogen and the rest of his family.
Rest easy my friend, you fought a good fight.
Lots of love, Geoff 'n Jude

I’m trying to polish the aluminum cladding on the outside. hi when we first had the ritz, the centre panels were painted. we removed the paint with stripper then "polished" the aluminiun with soapy steel wool. that was 15 years ago and this is how it still looks without ever being redone or ever actually using any polish. don't use steel wool though unless it's soapy, otherwise it will leave lots of streak marks. geoff 'n jude

hi belinda
good to see you again.
wire brush it to remove loose rust (don't over-do the wire brushing because the converter needs some rust to work properly) and with a spray bottle, lightly coat it with bondall ranex rust converter (bunnings).
let it dry for a day or so, wipe off excess white residue, no need to undercoat it, just paint it with good enamel as per bottle instructions.
don't waste money on rust proof paint like white knight, there's no need.

ps - i'm doing the same thing with the roadmaster at the moment.

there isn't any special events happening this year, mainly because of covid, but i'm sure there'll be a few heading to the pub or club for dinner, maybe saturday night.
it'll be good to see you again, see you soon.
