Recently Don Ricardo posted a newspaper article about a SCU study showing that we are losing increasing numbers of seaside caravan parks, as the valuable coastal land is being developed as home unit sites etc. So it’s very sad that a small coastal caravan park just South of the Border (Qld/NSW) is about to be developed as home units probably about the end of October. Most of the permanent vans have already gone (to caravan parks in the Sky), waiting for work to commence. I’m proposing that we have an event at the Cabarita Beach caravan park on the October Long weekend, Friday 4/10, Saturday 5/10 & Sunday 6/10. I realise this might clash with MOLW events in QLD which are extended over a long period of time. I’ve spoken to the manager & she’ll do us a deal for the 3 nights. I’ll phone her on Monday & give you all the relevant details after that, such as where & how much. This park isn't on any websites. It’s a 24 site park & she knows there are definitely 18 sites available on the weekend so I’m hoping we can really fill up the park & have a great weekend. Everyone I’ve spoken to about this event is very enthusiastic so the sooner I can get numbers the better! PLEASE send me a PM asap if you’re interested! I think that maybe 6 sites may be already spoken for. I checked out this park last December & took photos so it’s the Mystery Event I spoke of then. Here’s a few details for now! *1.5 hours south of Brisbane Airport, just a few kms off the freeway! *Pet friendly *Next to a Nature Reserve with grassed areas under mature Banksia Trees with grassy walking tracks through to the beach *Walk along the beach to the Pub or to the safe patrolled beach *Walking distance to shops, restaurants. *No jumping castles, no mini golf, just a basic shower block straight out of the 50’s! *No camp kitchen, so the plan would be to bring BBQ’s & spread ourselves out into the grassy reserve beside the C/park (sssh, don’t tell anyone!) If people want to go up to nearby restaurants, that’s good too. * No organization with this one…just bring yourselves, your van, whatever food you want to eat/cook/whatever & we’ll just sort it out on the weekend. Here’s some photos of the Reserve next to the C/park: Walking track through to the beach: Basic shower block

Hi All, a few more shots of this great little village, it is really a hidden secret, come spend a day or two O forgot, bring your canoe, there’s the best lake 5-minute walk from the park Cheers Stephen&Julie locals

Hi Di
Thanks, got your email, you're booked!
So a bit more info re the weekend...
Brenda the caretaker/manager likes cash, so I'll nick over to Cabarita Beach to let her know the final numbers & pay her a cash deposit of $10 per site for everyone, a week before we're there. She's charging $35/night (seems a bit steep for a basic park, but guess it's because of the Long Weekend).
Brenda says we can set up our tables, chairs & gas bbq's in the Nature Reserve next to the C/Park. She'll put us all together in the middle of the park, but she only has 16 sites available for us. So far 10 have emailed me to say they're in, so come on the rest of you, let me know if you're coming. If there are more than 16, I'll ask Ann about squeezing a few of the smaller vans together onto one site. we'll bring our larger Weber for the weekend.
The address of the place is Cabarita Beach Caravan Park Cypress Crescent, Cabarita Beach
So please let me know if you want in on this one & what day you're coming, whether it's Friday or Saturday!
Cheers smiles

We have 16 definites now for this weekend plus 2 maybees. I've just called into the Park during my lunch break & paid the deposit for the weekend. So when you all come, please just pay Brenda for your 2 or 3 days & she'll put the deposit I paid towards mine & someone else's tariff.
Good news is that I definitely think we can easily get 20 vans onto the site with just a little bit of squeezing up as we are all together. In fact there's only 4 other sites definitely booked out of a total 24 in the Park, so if you think you might like to come, send me a message or post on here ASAP. There's power to all sites so only a few vans will have to piggy back.
A very kind person is bringing a 6 x 6 annex thingo, an urn so we can set up our camp kitchen.
Ps very retro laundry setup at the Park... Concrete laundry tubs & wooden clothes props under the long clotheslines! So I'll definitely be taking my new Marrick Quick Dri clothes line (thanks to Barb & Clyde). It'll fit right in!
Oh & did I tell you that the Park opened on Xmas Eve 1962 & the amenities haven't been altered since then? How good is that Dosse?

hi All
Numbers coming are 17 certains, 2 uncertains.
boblor & I have been chatting about the MOTLW crew stopping by for morning tea or whatever, on the Monday morning prior to them heading off to Canberra via Lismore etc. The 6 vans with the MOTLW will have stayed Sunday nite at Tweed Heads so it'll be a short run to Cabarita on Monday Morning so we can farewell them on their way. Luckily there's no strict 10.00 deadline to vacate at The Cabarita Beach caravan park so we can all stay there as long as we like.
cheers

OK folks In case you don't have GPS, here's the directions from the North:
Cruise through the Gold Coast along the Freeway, to south of Tweed Heads & Chinderah, then after the tunnel, take the first exit on left to Bogangar/Cabarita. Go along this road for 6 kms (watching out for the last koalas in Tweed Shire) then up the little hill into Cabarita, first left at roundabout, then first right into Cypress Crescent.
C/Park is on the left corner of Cypress Crescent so take the first road into caravan park as we have the top 3 rows booked, but no dramas if you go in the lower entrance anyway!
From the South, it's cruise past Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads & Pottsville turnoffs, then take the Bogangar/Cabarita exit & go as above.
If you come via Kingscliff & Coast Rd, then it means you're geographically advanced & you don't need my silly directions.
Forgot to tell you all that there's no entry & exit times to worry about!
Someone also asked about seafood outlets in the area to buy prawns for the BBQ. I've asked around & everyone thinks it's either: Big new Woolis just across the road from the Park, Markwells near the boats at Boys Bay Bridge in Tweed Heads Chinderah seafood place on the river off the highway Stunned Mullet (fishnchips place next to C/Park, people have told me it's good)
I don't think I need tell anyone there's NO FIRES, cos we're right beside the Nature Reserve & there's currently a Fire Ban now in this area! Anyway, it's probably too warm at night now for fires. if we need to warm up, we can dance or hug another VVer (even if they are from over the border)!
Anyway, I'm not organising anything, this is a democratic get together...what everyone decides to do or eat is what it's about on the weekend. The weather is looking good so...
11 vans on Friday & 8 more on Saturday. See you all then!
smiles already in anticipation!

hey Bob
Thanks for doing the Media work for the MOTLW getting together with the Cabarita Crew on the Monday.
If people don't want to be involved, then they can depart home etc but I'm sure we can all throw a few vintage geegaws around outside the vans to keep the pheasants amused!

Hi Smiles and others Thanks for puting your hand and suggesting this great week-end, and allowing the MOTLW to join you. As some of you know I called in on Sunday afternoon and had dinner across the road with few VVers. When I arrived on Monday the group I spent the last week with wondering down the coast, when I entered the park and drove between the other vans present, I got a 'lump' in my throat to think -'how good can this get' it was very special to me and my fellow travellers. A job well done , forget the politics and have a good time we all have a comon interest, --old caravans and preserving them. Take a pat on the back 'smiles'. Cheers boblor
