G'day. I need 2 x 13 inch wheels This is a photo of one. And this is a photo of what it goes on. The centre hole is 70mm dia, the stud holes are 10mm dia and 80mm apart. The offset or clearance is 90mm (on the inside). (90-100mm would be ok if i used a spacer). I have been advised that they may be off late 60s datsun or toyota. Any advise on that . Any wheels to match for sale Thanks and cheers. phil. ;D

Perhaps its from a ford consul. They had stub axles that were bolted on with 4 bolts which made them ideal for home trailer builders. Beetles

Hi Phil,
I would take the hub assembly to a wreckers, preferably one thats been established a while.
I think you would quickly find whether any jap cars had wheels that fitted the hubs, & I would be surprised if one didnt. All the jap wheels I've come across over the years have been copied from Pommie or US cars , in bolt patterns & stud numbers.
Late 6 stud is copied off 1930's Chev, early Datsun was Austin A40, & I've gone blank on the others I've interchanged, but others may help.
I would think early Datsun 1200 could go close.

Just checked my wheel, only thing that came close was was the 80mm hole centres, mine has 14mm holes/60mm centre hole and an offset of about 105mm, sorry bout that Phil.

Thanks, guys, for your replies.
Beetles, at the first wreckers I bought a ford escort wheel because all the holes were in the right place. Trouble is, I didn’t take enough measurements and found all the holes were the wrong diameter (even though in the right place) and the offset was about 30mm to great. I think the model was too recent and not a pre 70s so an earlier escort (or consul) may fit.
JBJ, the wrecker who suggested early datsun or corolla used 1 of his many templates to come to his conclusion. He gets many calls for them but cannot supply them. (probably acting as artificial reefs somewhere)
Humpyboy – you had me going there for a while.
DC3Td, the van I need wheels for is a New Zealand CrestaCraft and I believe all their mechanical parts were imported from England (the windows were too) I would have liked to have seen a date stamp but no luck. The interior ply is stamped “Japan”.
Thanks again – I will keep searching.
Phil.

Hi Phil that wheel looks very much like the Austin A55 wheels on my van, which is also a NZ van.

The first thing that comes to mind is a Morris 1100. My NZ van had Mini wheels (10 inch) that I sinply changed the axle and replaced with the more common Datsun pattern in a 13 inch. Rollydog

Thanks Hilldweller(great renovation on your van) and Rollydog. I will be contacting local Austin/Morris enthusiasts and hope that i come by some wheels. Early japanese cars don't seem to have any local following. I wish i had thought about wheels at the Toowoomba Swap Meet. Cheers Phil

Hi and thanks again. I have found Morris Major wheels but the centre hole and the stud radius is smaller than i require. I guess Austin will be the same. However, i found 2 of these. From a Toyota Corona - 14 inch - great - except they are too wide so the van wheel arch will have to be modified - no no no says Louise. So i modified the tyre. Still looking for at least 1 not so wide for a spare for the 2 original Cheers. Phil

I've had another look at yours against the Caravelle's and I still reckon Austin's worth investigating. See if you can google and get a good pic to compare. Love the 'modified' tyre!

A 4-1/2" PCD should measure 80.82mm between adjacent studs, so this concurs with your measurement. Morris/Austin did run a 4-1/2" stud pattern on the 1100, 1300 & 1500, but my listing shows it as a 12" rim, and running 7/16" studs. Being that the hub is of British descent, then chances are the rim is from a similar origin. If that alloy rim is from a Toyota Corona, then that also confirms the stud pattern is 4 x 4-1/2" PCD, which is a pretty common 4 stud pattern used by Nissan (Datsun), Toyota and Mitsubishi in the 70's and 80's on most of their small to medium car ranges. Maybe look at having the studs replaced with 7/16" ones, and then you'd have a range of wheels to pick from.

Thanks again Guys & Gal.
One wrecker suggested Datsun 180B (but didn't have any)
I will keep trying for early Austin and maybe a 13" Corona standard wheel (if they made them) and now i will add early Falcon to my list (i hadn't thought of them - only seen later 5 stud).
I will change the stud size if i have to but my problem seems to be more of finding the right stud pattern diameter and the centre hub bore.
Cheers.
Phil.

Hi Phil & Louise,
Lovely to touch base with you yesterday.
I am just giving this thread a bump for you, in the hope that any new members might have some wheels hiding at home.
Regards Di

If the wheels you got (similar to a Hurricane) came from a Toyota then there are a few options. Early Falcon four stud would give you the option of a nice centre cap. Datsun 1600 to 180 B - after that the 200B etc went to 14's. Datsun 1200 - Sunny used 12's then 13s . Corolla stayed 13 but the wheel design is a bit ordinary for a Vintage caravan. Check the Ford wreckers for the Falcon wheels. Rollydog.
