Great thread, thanks ATOG I never knew it was so easy.....well, the way you explained it, it doesn't look as difficult as I thought. I've only got one spat for my Sunliner and need to make another fibrelgass mould so will give it a go. Your step by step process was excellent and looks a treat. Cheers, Hillbilly ;D

Well, progress on my Sunliner has been rather slow because of work commitments, lack of time, money, money, time....blah blah blah..... I used a top of the wazza primer and have put on the first glossy top coat and she's coming up a treat .... except for a few places where I've sprayed the gloss on and its a little blotchy in some areas . If anyone can shed any light on this it would be appreciated, as this is the first fobbergross I've ever painted and to get that lovely shiny finish is quite a task Anyway, I've enjoyed getting stuck into the old girl and its heaps of fun Maybe I will be a runner-up for one of the slowest VV restorations in Oz.... .......oh well, will just have to keep at it..... Will post some more pics of the final gloss coat in 2014 (nah, I couldn't take that long could I... ). Cheers, Hillbilly..... ;D ;D ;D

The van's coming along very nicely Andrew, albeit a long way to go, oh the joys, but its all good I've got a very similar looking "Modern" 58 van which was in the same state when I started........the pleasure it gives you in the end is well worthwhile. Keeps those photo's coming, they're great. Jabiru

Mark, I gotta agree with JBJ.......... keep the old sticker design and do a re-print of it, but also have some fun and create another sticker that's a little different ....... it's not going to matter as the sticker's will look great, regardless if there are a couple of different sorts and its still advertising the VV site for all to see. What a pearler Shiloh .......a nice little van. The van's got real character and will look a treat once its had the resto done on it. I tend to disagree with the others re the map, I reckon it would be really nice just done up with a nice splash of paint and not the map. A real cuty indeed, good find. Cheers, Hillbilly ;D

From a person who is restoring a Sunliner and loves the style of these vans, I believe Reddo's comments hit the nail on the head....
......"the buyer who is driven by the need to own it"..............
if your a lover of them, you'll probably pay the price to attain one.
If your parent's van is in good condition, dont let it go too easy.
Cheers and welcome to VV world.

Hi Atog,
The interior is a little ordinary, but certainly fixable. The roof lining will be interesting to see what sort of job can be done to reduce a few of the "ripples".
Paint wise.......I am having trouble working out an exterior colour.......any ideas???
Some of the Sunliner's look terrific in their new found colours, but I just cant settle on any yet.
Cheers, Hillbilly ;D ;D ;D

Hi all, Thought I'd put up a few pics of my 1959 Sunliner ( :'(took a long time to get started) restoration project. I moved to the Sunshine Coast in QLD a few months back, so there were a few delays in kicking off the project, but now she's happening. I got onto a mob in Noosa who are going to do the perspex windows for me at a good price and I'm organising the rubbers for them also. The hard part's about to start, the rubbing back and the painting. Thanks also to Humpty, Spyder and JBJ for their advice on the tricks of the trade with these lovely Sunliner's. Oh what a nice backside you've got....................NOT. The "rippled" internal roof lining could be interesting....... Built a more permanent double bed base, don't like making up beds late at night....especially after a few quiet ones with the likes of PooBah, Reddo or Daggsey.... The Engel is going to get an old style re-vamp, timber door panel on the front and paint job for the fridge shell. The view from the shed's not bad .......oops, sorry bout the bin. Now that tow hitch has definitely got to go............ Just about to get the you beaut ute re-registered in "banana bender rego", the gas has been "banana certified" and she'll be on the road again.... Had fun and games getting the very old rubber window surrounds out....and all the hardened putty and gunk that went with it. Am getting another fibreglass "spat" moulded for the other side, just love the spats on a van It's a lot of fun, am enjoying it, a long way to go but cant wait to get on the road in 09. Cheers, Hillbilly ;D ;D ;D

Hi all, ;D ;D ;D After 7028 kms in 3 weeks with no flat tyres, myself, the beaut ute and my sleek new 1959 Sunliner made it back up the Stuart and Victoria Highway's to the far flung north of WA. The rig at the Quarantine Checkpoint on the NT/WA border on Friday night. The amount of interest I received with the Sunliner was amazing. Some loved older Holdens but the majority just admired the vintage van and the vintage van culture. It was a long way up the middle of "Oz", and I was extremely lucky with the weather being wet on some days and very mild on others. Apart from a few electrical hiccups about 90kms north of Alice and some warmer weather up in Katherine NT which caused some overheating problems, it was a smooth journey. As you can see, the NT police were more than helpful in radioing for RAC assistance back to Alice. A tow truck was sent out within 3 hours........the problem, the points in the dizzy split in two, a manufacturing fault. Checkout the old bloke leaning on the car, I thought the cop was taking a photo of my van's rear, not my rear.... !!! Oops, I forgot to mention my little interlude with an "Olive Python" in a pub in Alice........the look on my face says it all ......not to mention my friend on the left.... Winding up the propeller at the RFDS in Alice....... One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the "Daly Waters Pub" a couple of hundred k's south of Katherine. By the look of the pub, they certainly know how to have fun.......unfortunately I was there at about 7am, but it was open, I brought some souvenirs......and yes, they asked if I'd like a beer, even at that early hour. All in all, a great way to end a great couple of weeks with a great bunch of people. I settled into the Sunliner lifestyle very nicely and just wanted to keep on going....either north to Darwin....or turn right to Mount Isa, Cairns, Cooktown or wherever, but I just didn't want to get back to reality........now, where have I heard that before! The car and van are now safely tucked up in a factory/storage unit in Kununurra, awaiting the resto which will begin in a few weeks.....(when the bank account has improved.....) will keep you posted with photo's as the progression progresses. Cheers from Hillbilly (Ian)

Reddo, Thanks for putting all the Mildura Parks on the forum. Mildura sounds great, I am a BIG 4 tragic, having lived in one for the past 15 months.......but as you've shown there are many more nice ones as well. I love trains and planes and could think of nothing better than hearing a 60 carriage freight train shunting past the park at 3am ;D But the bottom line is we've got to have trees, shade and facilities nearby and be together "as a group" of course. I cant wait to head south down the Stuart again, but this time I will take more time to enjoy the sights as I "Meander to Mildura" 2010. Sounds good........cheers, Hillbilly ;D
