Hi all, When on the East Coast Tour and at Coledale, I heard various people mention Munmorah in May. I have had a look on the forum and came across last years thread, but haven't seen anything as yet on this year (2008). I could be jumping the gun but does anyone know if the dates have been set as yet for this year? Also as a newbie, can someone please give us the info on what, when, where etc etc? Many thanks Diane

hi di
what? a weekend that almost eclipses coledale for social activity! (late nights around the camp fire etc.)
when? usually the weekend after mothers' day!
where? munmorah power station social club caravan park!
how to get there? best you ask someone else - suggest the tickos- we (i really mean i) got horribly lost and ended up about 30 miles north of where we should have been last year, the year before we missed the spot by about 20 miles, so 2008 looks like we'll miss it by about 40 miles if the trend continues!).
you might have jumped the gun but the thread has now started for munmorah 2008 - you beauty!
see you there.

Hi Diane The park is called "Koala Park" Dunno why.. havent seen a furry animal there yet... oh wait a minute . humptys "white mohair piranaha" was there. Head north up the F3 from Sydney past the twin Caltex garages/Mc Donalds near Wyong and look for the brown tourist sign that says "East Lake Macquarie Tourist Drive" . Its the next turn off after "sparks road - wyee" exit on the left . Once you get off the expressway head up for about 8 or 10ks until you reach the Doyalson traffic lights. You will see a sign that says "Budgewoi". hang a right at the lights and head along that road ( Scenic Drive) for about a kilometre. There is an entrance to the state mine with a fancy white brick wall. Dont turn in there go about another 100m and there is a similar entrance into the Power station. Turn left and head in through the gate about 50m . Look on your right you will see an driveway leading to an ammenities building. The camping ground is in around behind that building. Its a great little van park. Nothing flash about it. No shop etc but supplies are available about 10 mins away in Budgewoi. Tickos relos run the joint and there is hardly anyone else but us there. First year saw approx 12 vans . last year about 20 Weekend after mothers day. There was some talk of trying to align the weekend with "national motoring appreciation day". Lynelle Ticko will probaby fill in any haizy gaps i have left in this post. Bottom line is..... Bring beer... relax... enjoy Reddo

Dear Geoff and Jude and Reddo, Thanks for all the info on Munmorah - that's great. Sounds like it will be another great weekend. I thought I might be jumping the gun, but I already have trips booked in my diary up to July (both for work and pleasure). I was trying to get an idea of the dates, so I could pencil it in as I didn't want to miss it. ;D ;D Friends of ours are also planning on coming and bringing their vint van, so that's atleast 2 extra vans that weren't there last year. Hi Wildmanus
Dont panic about water. There is at least a dozen taps around the campsites. Bring a hose and connector to hook up to the tap. Or just buy one of those 10 litre bottles of drinking water from Woolies or coles.

Hi Dudes.. Dust has barely settled on the Nationals and i am focusing on Munmorah already Just been doin some rough sums here.. according to the previous emails , we are up to 16 vans for this years munmorah so far. I reckon cobber will be a starter and so will the old couple from Port Stephens... he's the old bloke that reckons "Old '36" is actually "Old '46" ;D ;D ;D ;D Also spoke with the owners of "The Honeymooners" teardrop that turned up the first year behind a chequered L300 van. I run into them at this years hawks nest Motorfest. It is undergoing a major "Bumcial"... Bumcial??... yup .. its getting its rear end rebuilt. They hope to be there. Also spoke with Martin and his missus. They will be there with the two tone green tank fairlane and the colour matched sunliner. So theres 20 already.... or am i jumping the gun a bit here. Lets just stick with 16 up to "Indi" ;D ;D ;D Reddoldribbler

Hi
What's the contact details for the caravan park - we're thinking of coming too. We're using a partly restored sunliner, before we on-sell it, while we're restoring another sunliner we bought.
Couldn't fin 'koala park' in the white pages.
Thanks

Hi A1 Dont worry about booking. Just turn up. The vans arrive and what follows is something like mutton bird nesting season on an off shore island, Every one just circles around until ya find a patch of virgin ground to drive/reverse into. when ya get there you will see it aint No 5 star Oasis sort of park. It isnt a registered caravan park. It is a private holiday park that was built by the workers at the very nearby power station and coal mine. And thats what is so great about it. Dawgs and campfires allowed too. Lynelle Tickos bro ( i think this is correct) is the live in caretaker of the site. There is limited power outlets but we always seem to manage to get hooked up with electricity for the weekend. double adaptors can be handy on this weekend. We just have to co-ordinate the timing of plugging in jugs and toasters. If we all decide to have a cuppa at 6.00am we can have blackouts. The ammenities are clean and they even have hot water and flush toilets when the water supply isnt dug up like last year. Its all fun . Just like camping in the 50's Camp kitchen is cool with under cover large gas fired BBQs Wwwaaaaiiiitttt a minute ... did you say your bringing a fobbergross van . OoooooKkkkaaaayyyy then... lettttssss ssseeee.... turn left at hexham traffic lights. head north for around 400ks and ask at the local papershop for Koala Park. Ya can spend a few nights with real koalas near Port Macquarie. ;D ;D ;D ;D seriously tho... a great weekend . Just turn up and join in. Entry is via a donation of a bag of firewood for the night time happy hours around a roaring campfire. See ya there Bondwoods Rule Ok Reddo
