hi Ken,
Great to see the Buick on the road. Amazing how those little bits of rust are often MUCH bigger than they appear, but you've got it done, & generally you forget the pain & expense once its over.
Many years of fun ahead.
I think that given time & all the comments you will get from the experts, you will end up repainting either the van or the car, but I guess the van will be a lot easier.
Either way, its a great combo.

Hi All,
Trading Post seem to be very slow removing sold items from their website, probably because the people selling those items dont notify of the sale happening.
It is often very frustrating to some when they get calls about a long ago sold item, but thats not our fault that they dont remove their listing from Trading Post, or wherever its sold.
I dont believe its anyone on this Forum's fault posting a listing from somewhere valid on the web, & finding that the owner isn't happy to be contacted.
We all take a chance when selling something that someone will find a long out of date reference & still contact you. I find it happens a lot.

Hey Dosse,, Just looked at the catering site,,there is a variety of different menu around $25.00,, you would spend that on a roast alone. And how great to just be able to sit back and be waitered on. Sounds good to us. ;D

Hi Dorian,
Its easy to put a spacer on your hub as required. You can get them at tyre services or accessory shops.
The caravan hub has no dynamic ( turning) loads, just weight. Spacers will be safe. I put 25mm spacers on my sunliner, with longer wheel studs from aftermarket shop, to allow use of mags with original brakes.
No different to what they use on cars to clear wheels from hubs.

Hi Gordon,
I spoke to the lady that mentioned the website at the local Council, so hopefully she was correct. The web page is nearly ready, so probably could be a week or so
Yes each event has its own entry fees, but that should all be on the web page I was told.
The events over a year away, so its not going to matter if it takes a while to get info

Hi All, Well I contacted the organisers only to be told the initial publicity releases have the wrong dates. The event is held on 5,6,7 of AUGUST 2011, the first weekend. That makes a major difference, & doesnt go anywhere near conflicting with Xmas in July. There will be a web page opened in several days, www.tarafestivalncamels.org.au JBJ

Hi Andrew
We are waiting on a reply from the organisers on the dates. I have taken them from the publicity handout, but until I get confirmation one way or the other thats all we have to go on.
Seems unusual to be on mid week, but who knows?
I'll post final details when I get them.

Hi Neil,
I'm aware they only do Xmas in July in July.
This next one planned is in the middle of July, but if it was (maybe) moved back until the end of July, that would put more time between events, & possibly give some a chance to attend both if they wish.
I was just trying to make life easier for some of us. It doesnt concern me personally when Crows Nest is held, so I'll leave it at that for me.

HI daggsey,
I agree on your choice of the Ultimate fuel. I've never had a problem with it ( other than cost) & have run it happily in my high compression old engines.
I suppose you only get what you pay for hopefully.

Hi Lynn,
We're OK with the caterers. The shed we use has a very good commercial kitchen in place, so that should make it easier.

Hi All,
When we did our outback tour of Meandara last year, we heard about the upcoming Tara Camel Races next year.
Well we just checked on it, thinking it was Easter like we were told
Turns out its on 5,6,7 July 2011. Pretty close to the planned Xmas in July
This event will be big, with free camping, Camel Races, German Beerfest, Wine & Jazz, & lots of Multicultural events.
One of the things we normally have done in the past is put events up to the Forum to be considered & discussed before committing to them.
I would like to suggest that you google the title of this thread, & consider it.
Tara is not much further from Toowoomba than Crows Nest.
Its easily accessed from NSW via the New England & Newell Highways.
Some of us will be going there anyway.
Its a communal decision on wether both events happen as planned, or the Xmas in July may be able to be moved back several weeks to separate the events (maybe??)
This event was being considered long before Xmas in July next year. OK the majority didnt know it was.
I dont think it sensible holding 2 functions in close proximitey in distance & time.
We also had in the past tried to avoid duplicating attendance at the same place, except our Christmas party at Canungra.
Again these are loose guidelines, as we have no rules. But we should try not to fragment our group.
But if you keep going back to the same place, how do you discover better??

Hi Dorian,
Definitely electric brakes are the way to go if your towcar is not much in braking department.
We set up the brake controller to be easily removed in one instance, so it wasnt such an ugly piece hanging under your dash when you are not towing, which in most cars is most of the time.
Boots used to tow a double horse float behind an early Telstar Ghia manual, up & down the hilly north coast NSW roads ( but slowly)
The electric brakes allowed her to stop pretty well, & were easy to adjust to suit the load, wether one or 2 horses.
It was overloaded to hell, & completely illegal, but it worked for a couple of years until our daughter stopped going to pony club.

Hi Banno,
I agree it was a good run, but a few of us were'nt very happy with the meal & the attitude of one of the serving staff & the manager when they run out of some of the meals.
I for one wont go back, but by all means everyone try it for themselves. Its not a bad caravan park, a bit light on hot water in the showers & not many loos for the number of sites I feel.
We've definitely been to better parks before, but as always its up to the majority to decide if they are happy to attend again.
Just because some are not interested in a repeat doesnt stop it happening.
Thats our democracy.

Hi All, A bit more done. Finally got one door finish welded, & its the rear door with a dogleg shaped in the skin. Outside repairs to rear RH door Inside repairs to rear RH door Removed rusty bits to front RH door New inner RH front door bottom piece fitted Gee I wish I could weld as good as this, without having to shrink & stretch the panel back into shape. By the end of this week its down to 2 doors to finish. Progress stops again then for another month or so. Its still fun JBJ

Hi Adam,
Still unsure, but have mellowed a little as I get older, so probably will be close to a traditional US mid 50's combo. I'll get my photoshop skills brushed up, & try a few combos when its time. It'll be a fair while before I need to put any colour anywhere I reckon.

Hi Nugget,
Good to see someone not scared to get stuck into it, that follows it thru to the stage where it can be finished off.
I like your ideas with the steel framing. Once its in there, its going to last a long time.No one can tell whats under there when its finished, so its still going to look original style.
Keep at it, you're going great

Thanks Slantie,
When I finally get it back from the repairs, it gets sandblasted & etch primed. Then I intend to start treating the inside bits of all the repairs. I also have to finish off the inside floor as I can do that OK myself.
Just takes time & money, which is a bit lite on at present.
It will work out great in the end. Still dont have any final idea on colours, but red & white is a combo I've always liked.
More likely to end up something unusual.

Hi All,
Looks like no one has a good word for E10.
I generally run half premium half unleaded in the Valiant as it is a high compression 245 engine, & I try to say a few bucks by not running premium all the time.
On our Meandara tour a while back, I was caught at Goondiwndi with only E10 available, so thought, no hills around here so it should be OK.
We eventually made it to the next servo, burping & banging. As the crap worked thru the system it came good. I regularly mix 50% fuel, including Shell, & the Valiant runs OK. I guess we have to accept we have to spend more money running premium instead of lower octane when E10 is the only option.
Still better than throwing big bucks away to drive a jap crapper as your only car. My hot rod run premium only, & same with my Dodge.
I'm lucky, my pass on earth will probably end before we really cop the problems with desperate shortage of fuel.
Bury me in my big V8 cars please.

Hi All,
This is getting away from this thread, but the point was raised obviously because some do not understand what I have been doing in keeping membership tidy. Its pretty well as Firefighter explained.
I print out a list of members in sequence of number of posts. I then start at the end of the list & manually check EVERY member to see when they last logged in to the forum. If you go browsing the Forum without logging in, nothing shows on your membership. There is no requirement for anyone to post anything anytime. Just ask that you log in every six months.
So those that havent logged in, or also those that dont complete the process of joining by actuating their membership, get sent a standard email that basically asks is there a problem they cant operate , or anything I can do to help. They are reminded to please login in every six months. I ask for a reply in 14 days. Nothing rude or difficult in that lot.
That allows me to not worry whether there email may have changed, or they've lost interest. Quite a lot show up immediately as invalid email adresses, so I delete them. If we cant communicate, you cant really expect to be a member.
No body that has logged in within the past six months gets sent anything by me regarding my membership checking. So I dont understand how it can be a problem to anyone that I have caused
I know its easy to take things the wrong way, but its also easy to ask me by email or personal message if you are concerned about anything I say. I accept the odd cheap shot, but if I had a problem with anyone I would (hopefully) communicate with them if possible, before it became nasty.
