Hi All,
When we did our outback tour of Meandara last year, we heard about the upcoming Tara Camel Races next year.
Well we just checked on it, thinking it was Easter like we were told
Turns out its on 5,6,7 July 2011. Pretty close to the planned Xmas in July
This event will be big, with free camping, Camel Races, German Beerfest, Wine & Jazz, & lots of Multicultural events.
One of the things we normally have done in the past is put events up to the Forum to be considered & discussed before committing to them.
I would like to suggest that you google the title of this thread, & consider it.
Tara is not much further from Toowoomba than Crows Nest.
Its easily accessed from NSW via the New England & Newell Highways.
Some of us will be going there anyway.
Its a communal decision on wether both events happen as planned, or the Xmas in July may be able to be moved back several weeks to separate the events (maybe??)
This event was being considered long before Xmas in July next year. OK the majority didnt know it was.
I dont think it sensible holding 2 functions in close proximitey in distance & time.
We also had in the past tried to avoid duplicating attendance at the same place, except our Christmas party at Canungra.
Again these are loose guidelines, as we have no rules. But we should try not to fragment our group.
But if you keep going back to the same place, how do you discover better??

Hi JBJ It won't be Christmas in July if it is shifted several weeks (they only do the Christmas dinner in weekends in July). There is no problem with having two runs (or more) in the same month, the group won't be fragmented. Some of the group go to all the runs and others only now and again and that won't change whether you have runs every couple of months or a couple every month - it's just how it is.
Tara is about one and a half hours west of Toowoomba. Maybe we could do a meander there like we did to Meandara?

That would be Tues til Thurs, suits me though - I'm off for those dates. So I'd reckon at this stage anyway I'd be right to make the big trip to Tara. I've only ever heard that it's a great event but I've never been.

Hi Andrew
We are waiting on a reply from the organisers on the dates. I have taken them from the publicity handout, but until I get confirmation one way or the other thats all we have to go on.
Seems unusual to be on mid week, but who knows?
I'll post final details when I get them.

Hi All, Well I contacted the organisers only to be told the initial publicity releases have the wrong dates. The event is held on 5,6,7 of AUGUST 2011, the first weekend. That makes a major difference, & doesnt go anywhere near conflicting with Xmas in July. There will be a web page opened in several days, www.tarafestivalncamels.org.au JBJ

Not going but have been checking a few online sites & whilst camping is FREE, attending the Festival & Camel Races varies between $10 to $40. Each site seems to have their pricing different from another. Likewise the dates for this event are all over the place. Does anybody really know what time it is (as the song goes). cheers gordon

Hi Gordon,
I spoke to the lady that mentioned the website at the local Council, so hopefully she was correct. The web page is nearly ready, so probably could be a week or so
Yes each event has its own entry fees, but that should all be on the web page I was told.
The events over a year away, so its not going to matter if it takes a while to get info

Finally got the correct dates for Tara Camel races .The date is August 5-7 2011. There is free camping but no power,, there is amenities. I am waiting for more info to come by snail mail. The web site is www.tarafestivalncamels.org.au Put your thinking caps on and have a look at the site.Perhaps we could do a retireees tour before or after the event. There is also a caravan park in the town should power be required. We will need to do a group booking within the next few months as it is a very popular event boots

OK,
Boots has just been in contact, & tentatively booked 12 sites.
Costs are pretty good ( check out their website). $40 covers a family for whole event. Camping on grounds is FREE, but there is no powered sites. Amenities are provided??? but not swe what is there or what will be near campsites at this stage.
I reckon David & Lyn's genset will get a work out if they come, & I guess more than one can be used.
Dogs are allowed in the camping area, on a lead, but not inside the event.
The woman Boots spoke to seems more than happy to help where she can.
Already a few have indicated they probably will go, so if you are thinking possibly?? check out their webpage.
They have indicated we will be placed together, but if more than 12 want to go we should expand our numbers as early as possible. As the camping is free its no big deal, you wont be penalised for saying probably & not turning up.
$40 is a pittance for a weekend of entertainment, compared with normal camping fees & no entertainment.
Let us know if you are seriously considering going so we can keep numbers realistic for them.
We will have a few brochures at Canungra

Count us in!

We're still keen to go. Just re-read previous info from Sue that: she's booked 12 sites so far camping is free with amenities but no power dogs on leads in camp area, but not allowed in festival area $40 family entry fee for festival events
Yeah sounds good! maybe we'll have to kill a camel n do a camp oven camel for breakfast on the Sunday hey Banno?

Hi Smiles,
Thru lack of interest, Boots just recently cancelled our booked sites.
But all the info regarding the event is still on the thread. You'll just need to book for yourself.
Cant see us going at present.
I reckon it will be a great weekend, just a shame how it all worked out with other events being organised near the same time.

Gidday Cathie, a bit of camel goes a long way. They don't taste as bad as they smell. They are best cooked slowly in the camp ovens. Once you have eaten it though, you don't need another feed for a while. You still drink heaps though as we don't have the hump to store up. P.S. We won't be able to make it due to Business commitments.

Phoned, emailed, phoned, eventually got someone at Tara!
So we're booked in at the Polo Field opposite the Showground where the festival will be held. Other years firewood has been supplied so sounds like it probably will be again, there'll be half x 44's for fires, dogs allowed at Polo field but not s.ground.
They will do online ticketing in May, so can get tickets for whole weekend for a family for $40 for festival. Free camping, so THAT's a bargain!
Have to bring our drinking water as Tara is on tanks.
I've booked 12 sites for Frid, & sat nights. Let me know asap if you want to come on Thurs so I can let the Tara person know.
Cheers
Cathie
