Hi Paparazzi,
We are looking at selling Lucille, with a new full canvas annex, for about $12000 or negotiable offer. It is as good as you will find at that price.
It certainly attracts attention wherever it goes. It will be in Melbourne in a couple of weeks, & over christmas.

Hi All,
I think this could well be a home built van. The lack of curves indicates it possibly has a welded square section tube frame. Maybe it was intended as one of the first in a series of new production vans, that newer progressed far in production. Sorta like Sutcacs "Fugly".
I,ve never seen a production van without some curved edges, & this also doesnt have any cover strips at corners.
But I could be wrong. I guess we may find out one day.

Hi Atog,
Thanks for the memories, Its been a pretty wild ride in the last 5 years of the Forum, with fantastic tours & events. I'd forgotten some of the early ones.
I've also forgotten how many we attended, but there wasnt one we didnt have a continuous ball on, even when my towcars did their "old car" tricks at times.
Lets see, 4 towcars ( Sues EH, my Jailbar, my 56 Dodge, & my CL Valiant) 3 vintage vans ( Groovin 58 Purdon 10' ply. 58 Sunliner 14'. Lucille homebuilt 58 ply 14') I must have a thing about 1958 vans.
But I can also agree with Kaybee about re visiting some of the crap we've gone thru.
I guess to survive in life, you have to be able to absorb , & then forget & put aside the crap.
It wont go away, as its always there in some manner or form.
But if it gets absorbed then it disappears from immediate memory, & we can progress on with enjoying our one pass at life
It really should be all fun.like it has been most of the time

Hi Doug,
I had a look & its not where I thought it was, so that indicates I have either given it away or misplaced it. I have a fair bit of junk in a badly organised untidy shed.
So looks like "sorry" I cant help at this stage.

Hi All,
A little irrelevant info, regarding us "HEAVY HANDED"moderators that ban people & delete posts willy nilly supposedly.
We have a grand total of 6 banned email adresses on this Forum, & most were banned because they were commercial retail sales sites, or similar, trying to openly sell things on the Forum that are against our stated policies. A couple of them haved tried rejoining under another user name, but their IP adress picks that up & stops them.
One other was banned because of not complying with Forum policies & behaviour rules, & thats it.
Dont know where all the banned members have disappeared to, but they are not on our list, so we couldnt have banned them.
Quite a few drop out because they lose interest or change email adresses.
As Moderators we see lots of things you guys dont, & we dont tell everyone about what happens, because most of the members have no need to know that we;'ve removed a retail sales posting, or an unsavoury comment.

Hi Doug,
I think i have an underdash brake controller hanging in my garage. From memory it hung from a bracket fixed under the dash. I'll dig it out tomorrow if I remember, & take a photo & post it on this thread. We managed to tow & stop a double horse float & 2 horses behind an early Telstar Ghia Auto using electric brakes. It was a bit scarey towing but reasonable stopping.

Hi Reddo,
Personally I agree with you 100%. Reminds me of the "Fawlty Towers" sketch where Sybil asks Basil " Are you having Fun?"( or something like that), & Basil replies " Fun?. I remember Fun. No Dear, I wasn't".
Unfortunately this Forum has become very boring & lacking in any humour.
Hopefully the whingers wont stop this spark of life. If it dies off now, it will be unlikely to achieve any spontaniety again. Sure, a few dont want it to be anything other than archives. But the majority I talk to arent happy with it as it has been lately.
I joined nearly 6 years ago, & have enjoyed a lot of contact with a bunch of people I would never have met without this Forum. We've had Friends from all over Australia camped at our place, & enjoyed dozens of outings from South Australia to Southern Queensland.
we still have a lot of long term members, but as always only a very small minority contribute on line. Thats the way of most computer Forums, & expected. But I believe the biggest majority enjoy the fun & banter that sometimes happens,
Lighten up serious people. You only get one go at life, so why complain when a bit of enjoyment starts to happen occassionly??

Hi Geoff,
We are looking forward to that. We will be staying at Big 4 park in Coburg over that period, & have a lot of daytime commitments with family & friends.
It would be almost impossible to catch up with all the friends we've made on the Forum in the short time we will be down south, if we didnt meet in a central point.
I'm hoping to have a quiet birthday drink at the Drum Hotel between 4 & 5 on Monday the 20th. Its just up the road from our Daughters house.
My mobile is 0416 280027, all I have to do is remember to turn it on.
Looking forward to good travelling holiday, & a good break in one of my favorite cities.

Hi Andrew,
Unfortunately its been sitting for months. Only needs 2 half door skins done to get it out of the panel shop.
But the owner of the business decided to rebuild an E type Jag, while I caught up with my payments, whhich I did months ago.
Now the E Type is almost done. It was replaced from middle of doors down, litterally. New floor, sills, firewall, back panel, guards, doors, cowl, probably 75% of car. They,ve spent over $50K on the shell repairs.'
So when its bolted back together, & able to be removed from hoist, mine goes back to be finished. Should only ( hopefully) take a couple of weeks to complete. I've given up thinking about what time & money has gone in, just happy with the quality of the repairs.
Peter the bodyworker wont work on cars unless they are elevated on his hoist. Hes in his late 50's, & been doing it all his working life. His back is not good.
The latest I've been told is maybe ( hopefully) late January. Then its off to get sandblasted & etch primed, & then I can get stuck into it.
I guess I'm luckier than the 4 other partly done cars sitting in the shed, with very uncertain completion dates. I keep hassling , so I get preference.
Its still fun

Hi Banno & Joey,
That van is SO different to the Sunliner I had. I guess yours is a Gracemur??
Mine didnt have timber anywhere yours has, & didnt have internal stiffening ribs either.

Hi All, Some pix. This van is an old S.A van, with canite roof & exposed timber curved beams. It has been reclad over the bondwood in the past, & is owned by Des & Kel. Part of the fun that is Canungra is the creek/swimming holes. We took a tractor tube this year Trevor & Julie rebuilt this Style-Line from a total wreck, with the side smashed in. Its pretty rare, & Trev found a Santa suit in it this year This old Chesney was in good condition Neat pair Magicangelisa’s Viscount Serious conversations at Jondi’s tent Andrew ( Smut 57) towed his Campbell Brothers ply van down from Chinchilla, after a hectic few weeks travelling. He’s been to Bright & Yamba ,& back to Chinchilla, in the last few weeks. Very rare brand of van. Ilse (Mrs Dosse) started the give away table, & its grown into a popular part of Saturday night The winning trivia team ( less me) And finally Santa having fun with his beautiful helpers Its all fun JBJ

Hi All,
Had an interesting conversation with Butcher Bob, who turned up at Canungra in his Model A hotrod & 14 foot Franklin van. He commented on how his van braking system was pretty useless, & had pushed him across an intersection when the front brakes on his rod locked up in the wet. The van was fitted with overide cable brakes, & when we looked at the over ride, it was obvious that there was no movement occuring on the tow connection under braking. You normally would see a section of clean area where the pushrod went back thru the coupling under braking. So we asked the weight of his van, which he guessed when about a tonne loaded. When we looked at the coupling, it was rated at 2000Kg, which is about twice the weight of the van.
I believe this would result in the caravan having insufficient weight to exert on the internal spring of the coupling to allow the brakes to work.
Does anyone have any experience with this??
We suggested to him he buy a coupling rated closer to the caravan weight, & he agrees.

Hi All,
Another great SEQ weekend. We were receiving rain Friday lunchtime at home, & the weather forecast didnt look good. But we decided to give it a go, & the weather wasnt too bad.
I'll post some pix soon.
We had 88 people at our catered dinner, & 32 vintage vans. Not as many vans as last year, but still a good attendance. Nearly all I spoke to were harppy with how the Saturday night went.
The trivia was won by a bunch of young kids with one adult "helping". Thrashed all the older ones.
As was mentioned, it was a great laid back weekend, with a big number of new faces, & quite a few of the regulars unavailable for various reasons.

Thanks Guys for the replies.
I'd love to catch up with a few of you, as I havent been down south since MT Gambier a couple of years back. At this stage we are opting to tow Lucille with Red (The CL Valiant) because of the comfort factor, and because we are taking a few days travelling down & back, it doesnt matter if we travel a bit more leisurely.

Hi,
Have you guys got anything happening around Christmas this year??.
We are going to be at Coburg before & after Christmas, & wondered if anyhting might be happening that we could attend??
We are travelling down inland, & arrive 19th Dec at Big 4 Coburg, & stay till 27th, then travelling back home by coast road.
While we have a lot of time committments with family at Coburg, I'm always happy to bump into Forum members.
0416 280027 generally finds me

Hi.
You have to get an auto electrician to wire your car, & fit an Anderson Plug near your towbar. You also have to get your van wired with an Anderson Plug at the towhitch, wired thru & connected to your battery. Not a job for the average person, so get an auto electrician.
The proper batteries are called "Deep Cycle" meaning they have the ability to be almost completely discharged, then recharged, without the damage a normal storage ( car type) battery would suffer if subjected to that on a regular basis
Also the ability of the inverter to operate is limited by its size.
I have a 2400 watt inverter, which is fairly big. It WONT operate an electric jug, or Toaster, they require too much current for the inverter to produce. I doubt that it would run a frig & MWO at the same time, but I have had no need to try it. It will run either, as well as battery chargers for phones, computers, etc.
It will successfully run a bar fridge for a while, but again I dont know how long because I havent run it long enough to flatten the battery.
Keep in mind, if you buy cheapo crap it will work badly. To get good results you need good fittings, heavy enough wiring, & good quality components, all put together properly. Dont cut corners or you will regret it. Theres a couple of tricky bits to connect the inverter into my 240 volt wiring, to work the power circuit. I'll leave them to your electrician & you to sort out, as what I did is probably not kosher.
Keep in mind what I did works for me. You should always use a licenced electrician for advice & installation.

Hi,
If you look towards the end of my thread on restoring "Lucille", I documented about an Inverter working the 240 volt fridge & microwave.
You need to look thru some of the older restoration threads. Theres heap[s of info there, you just have to look for it.

Hi Cruz.
When I was rebuilding "Lucille" I was lucky enough to find a lino hall runner in Brisbane, over 60 years old, & I got 6 metres x 900mm wide for under $100. Took a day up & back to get it, but good value.
I guess that more good lino must come up occassionly, & surely if its outside your area one of the Forum members would help out picking up & storing for you if you find something.
I'm not sure when Laminates started being used, but someone will know. I think from memory the vans my parents borrowed/hired & used in the late 50's( & they were old vans then) only used lino on floors & benchtops, & painted everywhere else.
Best of luck with the rebuild, its a unique van.

Hi, I've bought a few bits for my Dodge Kingsway, which is what Chrysler Royals descended from, from Jim Robinson in Melbourne, 0353454094. He has a business selling old mopar parts. Also Les Sonter , 0407290340 has lots of old stock suspension & driveline bits for many models. Hes in Sydney. I've also bought a bit of new old stock stuff off Ebay, thru AMS Obsolete in Georgia USA. They have millions of bits, but you really need your Mopar part number as they are a bit slow. www.mmpar.com gets them. Also The Old Plymouth Cafe, on Ebay, has lots of NOS bits. They are seaplym@hotmail.com. I've had no problems with either, but the AMS Obsolete guys postage is VERY slow. Remember if you are dealing with USA dealers, they have no idea what the Australian Chrysler Royal is. I believe the US 53-54 Dodge 4 door sedan is about as close as you will get, but a lot of the bits in our Royals will be hard to relate to USA stock. I think the suspension & drive train stayed US, but body & trim evolved with differences. Just my thoughts based on my experience. I'm probably wrong on a lot of the Royal details, but its up to you to ID the bits before you buy them. JBJ

Hi,
I asked one of the geniuses I was trying to get an answer from on the phone recently from a government branch, "Just where in your job description does it say you all have to be a rude a***hole all the time," & bugger me dead, the phone connection dropped out.
Must have have been the Telstra observer that listens in, hit the button by mistake.
Cant often win with the majority of Government employees unfortunately, but every now & then you get pleasantly surprised with a nice friendly & happy person.

Hi Max,
I personally see no reason why you would be wrong posting it under "Whatever", but as those posts are removed by me after one month, they will dissappear. I suggest post them, & if the other administrators think them worthy of retention, we can move them elsewhere later.
Wondered where you got to.
