Anyone interested in going to Crows Nest Caravan Park in July. They do a "Christmas in July" theme on Friday & Saturday nights during July weekends. Three course meal for $27.50/head. Clean looking park and they allow dogs providing their Humans are well behaved. There is an area set aside for campfires as well. Very nice camp kitchen & not too far from Brissy. Site fees per night are $22 unpowered, $25 powered & $30 en suite site. Their website is www.crowsnestcaravanpark.com.au if you want to check it out. Weekend of either 10th/11th or 17th/18th July I thought would suit best. Which one suits you all? This is not to replace Canungra. Cheers Neil

Magicangelisa and myself would be keen to go on the weekend of the 10th and 11th. The 17th and 18th weekend is the back to Brunswick rod run week end, I'd be keen on that too but it smack bang in the middle of a working week for me. I reckon there'll be plenty of spectators out that way too in July - they'll just be in the form of brass monkeys.....

Hi All,
I would be intersted in going along.
I already have an event organised for the 10th July, so 17th & 18th would be my preference.
Kind regards Di

Hi All It seems that not everyone could make the weekends of 10th/11th or 17th/18th so after a few phone calls to some of you I have tentatively booked 10 powered sites for the weekend of 24th/25th July. As it was group booking of more than 5 sites the rate has been reduced to $22.50 per night per sight. It is booked under Vintage Vanners so if you are coming please phone the caravan park, let them know you are with the Vintage Vanners and book one of the sites they have on hold for us (and post here that you are going). They have grouped all our sites together. I have also made a booking for the Saturday night "Christmas in July" dinner held at the caravan park which we will need to confirm numbers for 2 weeks prior to going. Should be a great weekend and I've booked a site for me already. Hope this suits you all. Thanks, Neil

Hi All, That would be right ;D ;D ;D. I figured that it would be either the w/end of the 10th or 17th so just in case I moved everything from those weekends to the w/end of the 24th to make sure I was available. Now only to find it's now the w/end of the 24th. Just my luck. Don't think I will be able to move things again, but will see what I can do. Luv Di

G'day Neil, I have booked in for this event...one van, two adults, one dog. Staying Friday and Saturday nights. When I rang today, Shane checked his computer and counted 14 vans booked so far. When asked, he said he could find a few more spots if anybody else wanted to come. All spots are in the grassed/powered site section. My partner and I also want to attend the Sat night dinner, if you are doing the numbers. Looking around the internet for info about Crows Nest and environs, there is a Sunday Market on the 25th at Cabarlah (link: Cabarlah Markets.), about halfway between Toowoomba and Crows Nest. Starts 7:30am until 12:30pm. The other thing that might be worth considering is to let the Crows Nest Advertiser newspaper know the Vintage Vans will be there that weekend. The paper is published each Monday, so the event could tie in nicely with their deadline. Email: advertiser(at)highcountry.net.au; or phone 4698 1119. (That's if those attending want the publicity, of course. ) ----------------------------------------------- On a separate note: is there anyone who can tell me if it would be ok to tow a van on the road from either Boonah or Beaudesert to Rathdowney - then to Woodenbong - then to Kyogle. We want to head to Kyogle after the weekend for 'family reasons'. Thanks for any info. cheers, Al.

Hi Al & welcome along. The road from Boonah to Rathdowney is bitumen all the way and a pretty country drive. You stop for a cuppa at the picnic area at Maroon Dam along the way. Rathdowney to Kyogle is also bitumen and I have towed along that route. It is twisty but safe and I always enjoy the drive. See you at Crows Nest Neil

Hi All,
We're still hoping to make it. But in the Valiant.
My hot rod engine expired in a very expensive way at Wintersun, so its off the road until I can afford a new motor.
One of the very expensive heads done back in the early 90's cracked in an inlet port, that filled the bore with water. This must have happened a while ago, because when I pulled the inlet manifold off, one of the inlet ports was full of water. The bore below it had bad rust pitting, so bad the block is unuseable.
Since the pistons were custom made by Wiseco in USA when the motor was built , its likely to need a new piston as well as a rebuild.
So when I add up costs of block, rebuild, new set of pistons, new set of heads, I find it so much cheaper to throw in a stock reco'ed 351 Windsor. All my accessories fit, & it will look the same externally. Probably run nearly as well, & will run on unleaded, better than the 11.5 to 1 compression I had that required the timing retarded & premium fuel.
I had a good 10 years fun out of the 426 cube stroker moter, so I'm not complaining.
The joys of owning old modified cars are greater than the stress & cost, & I'm never going to give them up without a fight.

Thanks Geoff,
Hopefully I'll have it back together for Yamba & Canungra in November.
Just feeling a tad down after the failure, so I'm just letting it sit partly disassembled in the carport until I can afford the motor & installation. With my luck of late there will be lots more to fix when I get into it.

To Neil and Cheryl, did you know of a big car museum, (mainly early Holdens) at Hampton, if you are looking for somewhere to go whilst you are at Crows Nest on the 24/25 July. I have a contact email address if you want it. I will be out to visit you on Saturday to say hello. Cheers Jim.

Hi All,
Just looked on travelmate about how to find Crows Nest.
It tells me to go to Esk then to Crows Nest.
Looking at that being a bush road, would we be better travelling up the highway to Toowoomba, then going north to Crows Nest.
Especially seeing we are going to be towing Lucille with our Valiant, which is not the greatest towcar I've ever driven ??
Anyone with any experience on the easiest towing route??

G'day Dennis,
Toowoomba to Esk is the go. The road up from Esk is pretty steep from memory.
Cheers Bob.

G'day Neil.
Do you know the condition of the Nerang Beaudesert Road between Wonglepong and the Beaudesert Beenleigh Road.
I believe it to be gravel by looking at Google.
This is not essential because i will probably "Go Via" but will travel that road one day.
Lets see if we can get a frost for the weekend after next after next.
Thanks. Phil
