Hi Jude
Give him another kick when he gets over the ones you already gave him, from Sue & I
We would have had a lot more trouble getting our Quest together if you guys hadn't given us the help you did. Maybe he overdosed on Ballina prawns??, or macadamia oysters??
Whatever, its good to see he he survives again, albeit probably with a hell of a lot of luck rather than good judgement.
Looks like 2 invalids will be eating licorice allsorts at SWR..
Still we will all hopefully enjoy ourselves

Hi
I have about 6 or so of the retaining clip assemblies new, that I over ordered. They are the long ones, & I paid about $10 each.
If you want I can take a photo of them, & check on postage costs I will sell them to anyone for $7.50 each plus plus postage. I will need your post code to work out out postage.
Otherwise these bits & heaps of others will be on our for sale table at the nationals. JBJ

Hi All,
Well its registered today, under historic registration.
Over weighbridge, after Boots put everything in it because we sold our Olympic, it weighed 960 Kg. I guess a lot of that was my new floor, but I was recently told that I over engineer everything, but that's me. I would never put anything in that I was not satisfied with the strength off, & I have no interest in falling thru a floor twice.
So a few more little bits to do around entry door & front table, & we will be using it.
Health wise I am cruising along, towards the ultimate ending, but without much pain. We hope to stretch my time to beyond Christmas in July at Canungra, but who knows whats going to happen.
We are taking things day by day, & being positive.
Its still all fun

Hi
That all looks in pretty good condition. My thoughts would be that nothing major would be wrong with the braking capacity of the system, given that any modern day vehicle would have a towing/braking capacity well in excess of that of a 1960,s car, so there isn't as much need for increased braking on part of the van.
I would definitely replace wheel bearings & seals, & get the brake linings re bonded & brake drums radius ground to suit. Generally not a big job.
I cant see any reason to replace hubs, as any wear occurring on bearings is inside the inner bearing race The hubs cannot wear unless the bearing shell comes loose in the hub & wears the hub that way, & that is extremely unlikely & uncommon. I see your hubs are 5 stud, so the van should have readily available wheels, so you should not need to change wheels/tyres.
I would make sure the front & rear spring shackles & pins aren't worn, but if they are you should be able to find a spring works/blacksmith in most larger towns to replace them. Don't put them back in if they are worn, because they can fail with wear, & the van spring will drop onto ground, especially if the front fails.
So I would stick with what you have, & just put it back into the best condition you can

Hi All,
I guess the thing this thread is proving, is that we Aussies are so lucky to have so much natural beauty, & the freedom to travel & stay pretty well as & where we want to. I am just realizing that there are so many beautiful places to stay that I will never get to, but I look back at our travels & realize how lucky we have been to get where we could.
Get out & enjoy it before your time comes up, & you suddenly find yourself realizing that you should have done more travelling & living life to the fullest while you could
Its all fun

Hi Rod,
When I bought the fridge from Masters it was $297.
A friend bought one the same yesterday, down to $197 to clear stock.
They are Asetto brand.
Also they have a black gloss one, with dummy retro style handles.
Look them up on the web.

hi All, Well lots happened since my last post. Interior is finish painted, doors & inside cupboards painted, doors rehinged & handles/hinges cleaned up & refitted. Interior lighting & switches are original. The roller blinds were in the van when we bought it, so we based our colour scheme to match. As far as we know, the van was built around 1968, but we know of no identification one way or another. Certainly colours are late 60's from my recollections. We are reusing original seats at this stage. You can see the new fridge in place. The 3 round knobs next to it are slide out tea towel rails, with storage under them from serving trays.
This is the inside of the original wardrobe, where I modified it to accept storage trays for clothes. There is a narrow hanging space alongside, with storage for the Portaloo below the trays. It has storage alongside for chemicals & papers I constructed a storage shelf, & installed a rail & posts from Camec. The mirror door to the cupboard is original. We found the fridge at Masters with a separate freezer compartment. By raising the sink 25mm the fridge fitted in place, so I played around cupboards & got it to work. Only had to trim the splashback on the sink Electrical is nearly finished, & will be completed next monday. Still a little bit to do, but it should be ready for rego in a month or so, certainly before the nationals. I'm not worrying about tidying up exterior at this stage, as we just want to use the van while I can. I've got my Dodge a bit more user friendly, & will be using it towing to Evens Head tomorrow, & hopefully the Nationals My Doctor has given me 50% chance of still being around for the nationals, so I'm taking the positive side to his opinion. I'm still enjoying rebuilding the van, & hopefully I will get it useable & get to some more functions. Other than my Pancreatic Cancer problem being a bummer, I still think it's all fun enjoying life I'll go out smiling ( I hope) JBJ

Hi,
If you look back in the Sunliner threads on this Forum from a lot of years ago, you will find details of a company in Moorebank ( I think) that have made the curved perspex windows that a few of us have used. Unfortunately I recently threw out most of my old records, so can't find their name. I'm pretty sure Humpty will know who they are.
You really should find time to run through the real old threads , as so much info has been posted.
No point reinventing the wheel, it's easier to find where it's hiding
Also I have found Alfab windows are still producing quite a lot of their older components. I have dealt with this guy Keith [keith@alfab.com.au] with regards window stays. I guess he probably is a long term employee, & seems to know his stuff. Maybe they have aluminium windows with the shape you want.

Hi,
I have both my vans for sale, as well as my crewman & Statesman. All on Ebay & gumtree
Our Olympic is on gumtree & Ebay, (& we would like to get $11000 for it, but are negotiable) Look in members photo albums under "Ethel" or " 11'6" olympic Micro Style Leader
It is complete & useable. We will be at Evans Head using it at end of next week.
Our Quest is on here under "quest for a quest". It is almost completely rebuilt internally, & hopefully I will get to post some pix soon.
It is complete, & would be simple to register. Or I can get rego inspection.
Looking for bids for it, but the coming pix will show its quality.

Hi All,
Well I've just been given a big hiccup health wise, & I need to get rid of my cars & caravans & tools ASAP.
I've listed the Olympic Micro Style leader , & my Crewman & Statesman on Gumtree.
I should be able to deliver the Olympic for a fee, to pretty well anywhere. It's on historic rego which is not transferrable
The Quest is nearly finished inside, & will be listed in the next week or so when I finally get it back together.
I am planning on posting progress pix of it on the Forum when the interior is assembled.
The Olympic will be at our Evans Head event in a fortnight, as I won't be selling it before then.
Biggest one to sell is my Dodge, but I want to use it a bit before it has to go.
Any one interested in anything please contact me. I am negotiable as they all have to go.
C'est la vie

Hi,
Naturally when you change your email, you no longer can login under your original joining details.
That's the main reason this Forum has so many " members". People join, then never login in again because they forget their login details, change their email, or decide the Forum has no interest for them. But they never get to cancel their original membership.
With your van, we aren't allowed to comment on value of any van.
It is only worth what someone will pay, & you probably have found that not many are interested when you live away from bigger towns & cities, as people seem not interested in travelling to look at vans in my experience.
So you have to play the selling game. Start at what you want, & if it doesn't sell, reduce the starting price when you re advertise. & Keep doing that until you decide to give up, or get a buyer.
It can be very frustrating trying to sell something.
I think it should sell, but who knows
Best of luck

Hi,
I'm sure if you google "caravan master cylinders" you will find plenty of new units available, & cheaper than rebuilding yours They may be a little different in spots, but as they are a simple item, it won't be hard to fit one that's slightly different.

Hi All,
Well I got back into this rebuild a week or so back.
I removed the original fridge as the body was badly rusted at the bottom of the door, & I didn't want to rebuild it & spend big dollars on new door rubber like I did in the Olympic. So its getting a 65 litre 240 volt bar fridge. I will paint door to match cupboards, & live with it.
Just got the first coat of interior paint on. I used exterior water based enamel as exterior paint has more elasticity in the dried paint than interior paint, according to the "experts". These vans are flimsy, & I reckon there will be a lot of movement in the interior panel joins over time. So hopefully the paint will reduce the cracking that probably will happen.
Hopefully in the next few weeks I will get a second coat on, then start assembling it. The cupboard doors are orange, to go with the late 60's paisley (sort of) roller blinds we restored that were in the van.
Hopefully all finished before Nationals

Hi Brenten The catches I used aren't much bigger than those wind down ones, & don't come loose like the metal ones do. They were found on Ebay, & are about 50 mm long in the rubber body. I have tried the metal hold downs, & they kept coming undone while travelling. I find the rubber doesn't come undone if you install it in tension JBJ

Hi,
Pretty sure that Sunliners all had drum brakes when built.
I've never seen one with discs, & I've seen a few over the years.
All Sunliners I've seen have been assembled using early Holden (FE to HR) bolt patterns & wheels.
The only disc I know of with the same bolt pattern is early Volvo, & I have fitted Volvo discs on an early Torana diff without a lot of difficulty.
So if discs are fitted they are not likely to be original

Hi Brenten
I had a lot of problems keeping the hatch on my Olympic down. I eventually used the rubber catches used on bonnets & industrial doors
They are easy to operate, & have solved the problem I had.
As regards period correctness, I remember them from the 50's, in various applications
They are available in different lengths I believe.
If you need photos, I can take some tomorrow & post here for you of my installation.
