The decision has been made to proceed through PC Madness (as per their quote above) to shift the entire Down History Lane section to the website vintagecaravans.comI've also negotiated a great rate to have our member profiles uploaded by PC Madness . www.vintagecaravans.com/member-profiles.htmThe shifting of the DHL section has been on the cards for a while (since photobucket starting cancelling user accounts that are inactive for 90 days ), ........ It was suggested recently in a thread (re overseas interests wanting to buy vc.com) that some of the members buy vintagecaravans.com, or we introduce a subscription fee . Neither of these will be happening, ......vc.com is not for sale, .....and I wish to keep membership free , ......however, I have asked for contributions towards shifting the DHL section by donation only . If you wish to contribute, we have a bill of $2247 to pay, and contributions are invited from not only members who wish to preserve the DHL section, ......but also from those who get alot of fun out of the great forum we have : So ......account details are: Acct Name: Mark Taylor Bank: Bankwest BSB: 306-053 ACCT NO: 0195008Please make contributions by cheque or money order out to: Mark Taylor ...... and address to: Mark Taylor P O Box 464 BEECHBORO WA 6063PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR FORUM NAME IN THE NARRATIVE, OR ON THE BACK OF YOUR CHQ OR MONEY ORDER We'll try and get this process done within a month, so that we can get the project financed and underway ............ Thank you, Mark

We are one week into fundraising for the transfer of the DHL section to the main website. A big thank you to the following members who have so far contributed: jodel1050 banno kustombruce humpyboy brucenan firefighter surf tragic The total raised so far is $474.15, so we have $1772.85 left to raise . Remember, these are contributions towards finding a permanent secure home for the great work done by our members collecting info on the history of caravanning in Australia. Its important that we do this project, and your contributions towards this cause will ensure that the project is successfully completed . We'll try and get the project financed within the next three weeks, so that I can instruct PC Madness to commence as per their quote. So, to those that do care about preserving the DHL section, .......and to those that don't care .....but have alot of fun using our free forum, your contribution will be appreciated by all members.Mark

G'day Mark, I have to confess I've been glossing over your thread because it's a "sticky" up the top, and I ignore those threads and just look at the new stuff underneath. Dunno whether that's the same for others, but maybe if it was "unstuck" and dropped down below to the normal threads, people might see it more readily. Maybe an update every two or three days would keep it up near the top of the daily posts? Anyway, I'm now sorted. Took me a long time to count all those old 1 and 2 cent pieces, but I reckon the DHL section is worth every penny of it! cheers, Al.

Hi Mark T and all the other members. I'm sure that everyone has got some information & satisfaction from the website and the DHL section. So I urge everyone to dig deep into their pockets and contribute to a great cause. Every little bit will count and no contribution is too small. Thankyou to all the members who also contribute a wealth of information and are only too happy to help out others with their quiries & problems. My cheques in tomorrows post. Regards Mark B

Hi Adam,
If only it was that easy. About 100 actually even comment on anything or parcipate.
It will be more likely that maybe less than 50 will actually end up donating anything, but as has been said, every dollar from anyone will help. Doesnt cost a lot to shove a $10, or even $5, note wrapped in paper into an envelope & mailed to Mark.
As Mark said, we have 3 weeks to get it together.
Where else can you find a passive enjoyment like your regular hit of Forum "Madness" for a few bucks???

Hi John,
I guess I come across (as usual) a lot worse than I mean to be. Its impossible to anticipate how someone interprets what you mean to say.
A bit percentage of us, especially the older ones (like me) ,struggle with computers, & all have different amounts of input to add.
Not many get to spend most of the day working on a computer like I do, & being self employed I have whatever time I wish to spend. I can draw good plans, but the rest of it is like being able to understand Russian to me
I dont mean to be bagging anybody when I comment, & please dont take offence at things I say. I've tried over the years to comment less to avoid this happening, but unfortunately I'm human & far from perfect.
I apologise to any I've offended by my comments. I have the interests of the Forum & its members in most things I do & say here.

Here is a suggestion: maybe some of the upcoming VV runs could hold an auction to raise the extra needed funds . The way I see it, we'll probably (but hopefully not) only get half way there & where will the rest of the money come from ? Can we buy some VV merchandise or the like? Any other suggestions? Adam

G,Day 73 kenworth/John Gee Wiz what a statement attacking jbj you can push the button like you did ron if you wish i will survive.john 73 kenworth 5 glass vans John you should not coment on anything you don't know about part of olfarts statement But i believe there is a record (even though one hasn't signed in) that i have "been here".Perhaps the forum owners or mods have access to that information?? I don't know. Dave /olfart Yes it shows up in your profile that you have been on the forum weather you post or not ......I don't know why Johns worrying about being "culled "......don't like that word ......NObody is remove off the membership list when Dennis sweeps the broom through it with out receiving an e,mail from Dennis first the ones removed are the ones that don't reply or do not have a valid e,mail address The only members that receive this e mail are.......the ones that have not been on the forum since the day they joined or have not been on in 6/12 months AND IF YOU ANSWER THAT YOU WONT TO STOP ON THE FORUM YOU ARE NOT REMOVED f/f ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi All,
This is getting away from this thread, but the point was raised obviously because some do not understand what I have been doing in keeping membership tidy. Its pretty well as Firefighter explained.
I print out a list of members in sequence of number of posts. I then start at the end of the list & manually check EVERY member to see when they last logged in to the forum. If you go browsing the Forum without logging in, nothing shows on your membership. There is no requirement for anyone to post anything anytime. Just ask that you log in every six months.
So those that havent logged in, or also those that dont complete the process of joining by actuating their membership, get sent a standard email that basically asks is there a problem they cant operate , or anything I can do to help. They are reminded to please login in every six months. I ask for a reply in 14 days. Nothing rude or difficult in that lot.
That allows me to not worry whether there email may have changed, or they've lost interest. Quite a lot show up immediately as invalid email adresses, so I delete them. If we cant communicate, you cant really expect to be a member.
No body that has logged in within the past six months gets sent anything by me regarding my membership checking. So I dont understand how it can be a problem to anyone that I have caused
I know its easy to take things the wrong way, but its also easy to ask me by email or personal message if you are concerned about anything I say. I accept the odd cheap shot, but if I had a problem with anyone I would (hopefully) communicate with them if possible, before it became nasty.

I feel your pain JBJ But only in a minor way Classic Caravans has only 183 members.....1/5th of V V
Time consuming and sometimes frustrating work
Keep at it Dennis we need the membership numbers kept realistic.
From personal observations It would seem some join up on the spur of the moment and never really get going
Others join for one purpose - Be it a sale of a van or otherwise and then lose interest
But most join and either post or are happy to see what others are doing. We are glad to have them aboard ;D
All of these become apparent as time passes. Hence on CC we clean up every 6 - 12 months
Every group needs to do it and of course it is left up to those few to shoulder the responsibilities.
A thankless and generally unseen job..... except this time
THANKS JBJ

Hi folks, Just a reminder what this thread is about. The aim is for us to put together the finance for the "Down History Lane preservation project" by around the first week of August. Perhaps Mark can give us an update on how the contributions are coming in at this point? I am not a forum member but rather have been loitering over the past couple of years. I am fascinated and taken by the information you have amassed.
