Hi Geoff,
Put us two down for at this. I reckon I'm just about old enough to think about Bowling, although last time I tried I was pretty ordinary

Hi,
I towed a gutted Sunliner from Kurri Kurri to northern NSW on a tandem trailer a few years ago, with all the bits that had been removed laying inside loose. Nothing went wrong on my trip.

Hi,
My thoughts.
Understand that none of us know what state you live in, as you don't show any location on your avatar.
Seeing you are considering seriously modifying the EH, it's extremely likely that you will be needing the services of an engineer approved by your state's registration department.
That person ( in the case of NSW) needs to also certify the tow bar fitted as part of his certification, if it is not a later model vehicle fitted with a towbar certified by the manufacturer to the relevant australian standards.
If the vehicle is pre ADR vintage, that responsibility becomes the engineers I believe. The towbar on my Dodge was built by a truck body builder, & my engineer just looked at it, & said "I can't see that every breaking"
As far as allowable towing weights, I think you will have problems getting a straight answer from the relevant authorities, but I have found certain sections of NSW's RMS to be a lot more approachable & helpful lately. I even received emails after an approach I made in their "shop front office", setting out what I requested in writing.
I guess you have to find out yourself, & decide what to do.
But rest assured, if you break the rules with weight, & have a major accident, the investigating authority is very likely to research your accident, & come down hard if you breach something obvious.
Best of luck

Hi,
Without further info, my guess is the wheels & the van are probably early 60's

Hi, this has been put together by a tradesman with good body building skills, probably someone in the aeronautical industry. It shows lots of skills, & I would guess the body is probably aluminium. The ends & roof show that they were probably rolled on an english wheel, which is the only way I know of to make compound curves on flat sheet. A compound curve rolls in more than one direction at a time. To be able to rivet like that is quite an art, learned from years of practice.
I have seen several vans built after end of WW2 that while different in detail, are similar in construction techniques.
So my guess is that it would have been built in the era of the wheels, or early 60's. But unless someone discovers the truth, its all a guess
Real nice van

Hi,
All Ford 1936( I think) to 39 are the same. Often called the "wide 5" wheels. Ford Pilot had the same wheels. They were all 16" dia, & I think 4"wide The first Mercury I have seen in Australia was a 1939 model, which had different hubcaps from the Ford, but the same wheels I think. We are talking a lot of years ago.
The Mercury of 1939 & 1940 had a larger more rounded body than the Ford of the same year, then the 48 Mercury seemed to be the same body as the Ford, but with different front, trim & mechanicals.
The brakes were mechanically operated in the earlier years, then went to hydraulic in 1939, the first year Ford used hydraulic brakes. In 1940 Ford went back to the normal style of wheels & hubs that have continued since

Hi All, Well it happened the last weekend, a great rod run in northern NSW that a lot of rodders go to. Quite a few vintage vans also, but many are decorated as "Betty Boop" style, or modernised to match the towing hot rod or custom. But still a lot like to see pix of them, so heres my effort. We made it down on Friday, towing our Olympic behind my Dodge. Still a few hiccups with it, but I got there & back, running very smooth except for running hot & no speedo. They are some of the many things I need to fix. Butcher Bob who was a forum member, has built himself a new teardrop to go around Australia in ( again) these are some of the vans I took photos of. This one is late 50's Trailmaster I think Dave & Jackies Airstream, with one of the best polishing jobs I've seen A few hot rods for those that enjoy them. Aussie bodied 37 Chev Sloper This 36 Ford Tudor was a very rough shell in the shop where my Dodge rust repairs were done, at the same time as mine. Very nicely finished LHD 40 Ford Standard Tudor, pretty much as found in USA & imported This is a 46 Ford coupe.
Nice chopped 36 Ford coupe. I dont think it was Leanne's old car, but I could be wrong. Her old Ford 46-48 ute was here also One of the many dozens of 32 Ford fibreglass roadsters. There were a few original steel bodied ones here also Some people appear too have TOO MUCH money Pete & Doug both are confined to wheelchairs, & have had these rods for a long time. Doug is sitting in the A, Pete owns the black 37 roadster. Both rods run flathead motors, but Pete's has what looks like Hilborn fuel injection These are flathead powered. Lots of big dollar blown flatheads, & heaps of over the top cars, with very big dollars spent. Hell of a lot were trailered, especially the longer distance ones. Some USA cars 56 Oldsmobile pillarless 4 door 48 Plymouth coupe 1951 Pontiac 4 door It was a good weekend. Lots of rain & storms as usual, but thats Yamba It was fun JBJ

Hi, I'm having lots of things go wrong since I got it registered. All little things, all extremely frustrating.Things you never would expect. Like wipers that worked perfectly, all of a sudden dying. Windscreens that were fitted by professionals splitting the rubbers & leaking. But I'm attacking things every day, & getting through a frustrating bit every day. Hopefully I will be towing our Olympic to Yamba Rod Run this weekend with it. Boots will lead the way in our Crewman, as one of the problems is the electronic speedo doesnt do anything. Also if anything else goes wrong, she can tow the van ( while I burn the car) I never expected everything to operate as I hoped, but its not much fun with all the little crappy bits going wrong. Still it feels great to drive, & it is running & sounding smooth up to now. I will post pix of Yamba hopefully on Sunday JBJ

Hi,
Thanks for the pix Jacqui. Saves me posting the ones I took before my camera went flat.
There was a nice van on an adjoining house lot, that I got a pix of. I will post it when my camera recharges.
It was a great weekend, & good to catch up with some we hadn't seen for a while.
Its a great group up here around the Tweed/ Se Qld area. Lots more fun weekends have been planned by the ladies, so it will continue to be all fun

What I cant understand is why, when you state that you dont want to be part of our "community", that you have to come on our Forum & have a shot at the way we behave as a group ( which you have only observed from the fringe)
Why not just go away & leave us poor uneducated peasants to ourselves, in relative peace & tranquility to enjoy what you believe are inferior ways??
I have no interest in trying to re educate you into anything at all, so why are you doing it??
You appear to be a strange person, & hope I manage to continue my life without coming across you in person. You offend me on this Forum, & I can only imagine how nice you must be in person.

Hi, I guess one good thing will come out of this. Like all stirrers that come on this forum, you will upset a lot of people quickly, then suffer burnout or whatever, & disappear into the distance. You really have nothing to add to this forum, except your opinion. From the reaction so far you must realise that your opinion is different than most. I would not expect anything useful to come out of your efforts to persuade us that you have a realistic & valid attitude to what this forum represents. But you have the right to state your thoughts. Its just I think you are wrong. HO HUM JBJ

Hi I pretty well totally disagree with your thoughts, but at least you have woken everyone up from their hibernation To each his own, & you probably know opposite thinkers cannot agree with one another, & both sides are inflexible. Sorta like the old argument hot rodders against restorers ( Not that I want to start that one again) So after all what you have done is probably pointless. HO HUM JBJ
