In Qld , if you are a member of a properly constructed car club you can legally attend a run of any other properly constructed car club , so if a V/V run is on and one of the others attending is from a proper car club and has made it a run (,ie in their newsletter or on their website .) I have done interstate trips on club rego . i believe you need to have a starting point and time and destination in the run details . Two drivers in Cairns got $170 ticket each for breaking the SIV's rules 2 weeks ago and it made the local paper ,( they were more than 15 klm from home ) so i think that the police are putting us on notice that they now will be on the lookout for people breaking the rules ,

If you are going to tow a heavy larger van i would go for a full size USA Automatic type car . Pontiac ( Aust assembled Pontiacs have Chev running gear ) or a Chev ,all driveline parts are available all over Aust . Also with the price of the Aust big three going through the roof the Chev/Pontiac option could be cheaper , You need a car that is totally in control over the van , otherwise caravaning is not a holiday ,it is a stress test every day . Photo of a couple of my tow cars , The red one is a 65 Pontiac Parisienne and has the Chev running gear , the other is a 60 Bonneville ( Usa made and is LH drive ,parts are not so easy for that one ) another option ( below )is full size Ford my Galaxie did a great job , big low reving 390 ci ,6.4 lt V8 aust was very economical on gas cheers kel.

GTO went to the western suburbs of Melbourne. The Catalina Safari LHD and the Bonneville Coupe LHD are both 389's 4 barrel 303 HP , 4 speed hydramatics , . The Catalina motor is actually out of a 61 Bonneville but looks almost identical to the 60. The Coupe motor is a bit sick so it is waiting to be worked on ,still pulls really well but uses oil ,i now have 2 full tri /power set ups waiting to be fitted , Was a great trip driving it from New York to Los Angeles last year . We have been to 3 USA National Pontiac Conventions ,POCI . and one western regional , and many other shows , Detriot Dream Cruise on Woodward being the biggest with 40.000 classics . that is not a missprint . The 65 Convertible is a Parisienne ( canadian ) RHD ,Chev running gear , it seems i am focusing on Pontiac as there are fewer around and i find them much more interesting and full of character . and with that torque they pull the van very well . cheers kel.

Those ID plates were not invented in 1972 , that has been added much later when someone registered the van and just took a guess at its age . that logo in the top right hand corner could be a clue , that plate could be only 15 years old , of you can find out when that logo was first used you will have some idea of when the plate was put on there . When my sunliner was registered in Qld 5 years ago i did not need to have one of those plates ! cheers Kel.

Hi again one of my trailers has brakes like this ( so has the Sunliner ) but the trailer brake cable was heavy enough to pull the brakes on , i mounted a longish softish spring to pull in the opposite direction as the cable ,this spring dad an adjustment to set it up right . With my sunliner the spring ( made for 2500kg towing and the sunliner is only 600-700 ) in the tow coupling was way to strong and was not allowing the brakes to come on at all ,so i had to undo that big nut at the back of the sliding section to allow some movement when the brakes are applied ,
cheers kel.

Hi .A servo would do the same job as a booster .. and i think from memory that bolt at the bottom holding every thing to the backing plate must be left loose enough for the entire lower mechanism to slide to the left in a slot in the backing plate allowing the left shoe to contact the drum ,not sure . good luck , it does self equalize some how and put pressure on to both shoes , and some of the parts near that bolt need to slide to make that work .
cheers Kel.

That Sunliner could be 200kg lighter then your other van , just think how much faster the ute will be towing it , not to mention stopping . And then of course don't forget the supreme prestige of owning a SUNLINER ,
Cheers Kel.

all the sunliners i have seen have the early holden 13" stud pattern ,,, the same as a HK holden ,, the back space you have sounds standard ,, someone else may know more about that ,. Some one on this forum put bigger height wheels on a V/V a year or so ago and towed it, the suspension moved up and down all the way and the tyres wore through the wheel arch's , that damage (if any ) would depend your springs and how much they move . ( and your 185/75/14 are a lot bigger than the 13" wheels )
cheers kel.

Hi , I know 3 people that have had classic cars ( Corvette , Mercury & Pontiac ) moved by CEVA to or from Cairns recently and all 3 were damaged , 2 of them were badly damaged ,the other one dent that required the whole panel to be redone . so i will leave it up to you if you want to use CEVA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
