Wouldn't you think ,if this is SO important.....that the Gov't or someone in a position of authority would have demanded a clearer system of date identification ( like print the date for FFS )......this subject was also dealt with fleetingly on one of our current affairs programs a while back..... had a look at the tryes on the back of our Chevy roadster....1981.....still look OK too.....might be nearing time to get some newies....

Hey Cobber, you're not gunna believe this.....I have a mate who lives around the corner in Fairview .....we've driven past that "lake" every time we've been to his house.....it just looks like a fair sized dam.....maybe it shrunk from when they took that picture ;D.....oh,and we've already done the "tin hunt" previously, all we found was a Hillman and some old Hold-ons (tho Percy from Fairview has a '32 Inter as yard art in his front yard and a '49 Chev in the backyard).....no old caravans ;D ;D

Are you there kaybee with some more advice ? ST .....still here ;D.....believe the guy , steel on steel will bind up , that's why cast iron is used for this kind of job. Might be worth sending a PM to Dale (Chev 51) , he is a pattern maker and might be able to help out. A few years ago we used Bells to cast some hot plates from a combustion stove....they sand cast them straight off the original plates, no patterns. You get some shrinkage , but it's minor ...Dale can fill you in on that too , cheers, Col.

Hiya Humpychappy , looks like cast iron from the pics and the style of break...if it is it can be repaired by brazing , but before you do that it might be worth taking it to a foundry to get a price on casting a new pair, cheers, Col.

Hi ST , Mercury engines are 239 cubic inches,3 3/16" bore....the Mercury line didn't start until 1939 and ran here until '48 , engines remained at 239 c.i. and were all 24 stud. If yours was a 21 stud , that makes it a '38 or earlier Ford , they were 221 c.i. and had 3 1/16" bore. If it came out of a ragtop Ute , it could have been one of these..... ...hope that answers your Q's ST ....cheers, Col.

Hiya Jeff, don't want to sound picky, but I thought I might point out that those old Ford and Merc Utes didn't come here....they were made here and only ever available here in Oz, likewise with the Chev Utes.....Oz only
