$12000 is ok for a fully restored van... if you have it to spend that is.

I see those sexy lights are gone off the pommy wreck. Is it completely stripped and now a mouldering hulk?

Wow, even your shed has a retro feel. Can I have a gander when next going through Wagin?

Agreed, if I had seen this one before buying the van I have it would be gone for sure.

If your not into checkerboard rip it all up, smooth off the floor, and lay some commercial grade lino of your choice. Just make sure there are no bits of tile left behind before you sand the glue off the floor.

Thaks Don. You are right about the joins - and the sheets are of different sizes. It almost looks as if someone had a bunch of odd sheets to work with. Still like it though.

I tend to agree with the others. Resticking old tiles is difficult. Try a few and see how it turns out.

Is that "duralumin" rather than "durilium". I was just reading the wiki on it. Its a copper aluminium alloy used on zepplins originally. Its manufactuer was a WW1 German military secret used to make armoured Junkers planes. Apparently much more prone to corrosion than modern aluminium sheeting. Fascinating stuff.
Lovely little van just the same. It would have to be one of the earliest Aluminium van surely? So many vans - so little money.

Don't worry about a test kit - most of the old tiles have asbestos fibre in them. Having said that, you have to be extreme to release the asbestos, which is locked into the product. Breaking a few tiles is not going to release the fibres. You have to do something silly like take a floor sander to them (as I did many many years ago.).

What do you mean "3 houses" Gabby? Lane Pool Reserve in Dwellingup is pretty this time of the year but cold in the mornings. Its not a caravan park though. If you only want to tow for a very brief time there is the Coogee Beach Holiday Park. Its in the metro area right on Coogee beach (and much warmer than Dwellingup).

Hi Atog. Yeah the jeep and van do look good together. The van tows ok but likes to bounce about a bit. We "tow slow" anyway so its not a problem. Going west - east at Christmas..... lots of tweaking to do before then..... sway bars, 12/12V charger, upgrade lectrics, better table, and so on.... and new curtains!!! We will explore S.A. and NSW, visit wife's family in and around Sydney, and poke around that neck of the woods.
cheers, Bill

Some holiday pics: The Rig. We were snug inside - rain outside. Once of the geocache sites we visited - an old mine processing area near Ravensthorpe. The ground was littered with blue/green copper ore remnants. The cache was near the second pic. cheers, Bill

There are some resilliant types posting here. I used to restore old furniture and always stripped with a heat gun. I made myself pretty crook from lead fumes. I wouldn't do it again without a fancy respirator BUT it is a cheap, fast method.

Pics? i think my wife has some. I will hunt them up. It was ambitious to go SE in winter and the weather was inclement to say the least. As for the van - no worries. The floor and beds survived - we were all snug and warm... but it was too miserable to fish.
