Thanks Mark for bringing up our Nats event for us. With the wagon off the road for the big rebuild Cathy and I have been very quiet on the VV scene. and a big thank you to the vintage vanners who can turn up for the day. It looks like we will get a good number turn up for the day. We have over 50 vehicles entered for the Nats weekend and we will be including in the Showand Shine any FE- FC that wants to be included for this one event. The more the merrier. We also have Curtin FM radio broadcasting live from the Show and Shine. We would like to encourage those VVers who attend to display their vans to the max, with all your showy collectable stuff. We have lots of room available and have not finalized a ground plan as yet. Is there a preference for setting out the vans. I was planning angle parking in a row along the Riverside Drive side of the gardens, should get some shade from the trees, and the van doors would face in towards the show vehicles. Or a circle of vans with a display/campsite (?) in the middle Can those that will be attending please confirm your attendance and vehicle/van details with me at my email address, so that we can confirm numbers for allocating parking area and our traffic marshalls will know what to expect arriving on the morning. I expect we will set up at 9.00am (I will confirm this closer to the day) Kate. Pity you can't make it. The panel van guys had their Nats in Mt Gambier the same time as the FE-FC guys back in 2008 also. Brings back memories. I was a member of the High Rollers Van Club (REAL vans -not passenger car derivitives ;D, was our motto. I had a customized Bedford back in the days before marriage and kids. Thanks again guys (and girls) surferboy cruising58@hotmail.com

G'day everybody. As there are a number of Vintage Caravan owners who are also FE or FC Holden owners and the West Australian FE-FC Holden Club is hosting the FE-FC Holden Nats in 2012. we would like to invite ALL Vintage Caravan Owners to join us during our 'Show and Shine' to display their Vintage Caravans. Our Nats will be held over the Easter weekend in 2012 ALL Vintage Caravans will be welcome to join us on Saturday 7th April 2012 in the Supreme Court Gardens 10.00am to 3.00pm. As a number of the West Aussie club members and a couple of Eastern States members have already indicated they will be showing their vans we would love to take the opportunity to expand this into a display incorporating other Vintage Caravans. We see this as a win/win/win situation as it expands and improves our show gives the VVers an opportunity to show off the vans and joe public gets the chance to see why we enjoy ourselves so much ;D I will post more details closer to the event some basic details (that could change) there will be no entry fee there will be no prizes (unless somebody else organises something) period correct/hotrod vehicles are OK with vans. Modern vehicles to be parked away from vans. thank for your time surferboy (this is a work in progress, if you have any queries please ask)

We've called the Baravan... The 'chute, cos it's like driving around with a parachute on the back of the FC The Convair we call the cubbyhouse, cos thats probably what it will end up being if i dont ever finish the rebuild If by some chance i do ever finish it, the convair will be christened (any excuse for a party) "DUNNARUNNA".... an old colloquial AUSSIE slang word , translation.......to p--- off early from work on friday arvo to go caravanning with ya mates ;D ;D ;D

gday guys I like to see restored, modified and new ones built in vintage ''style'' ( no i dont like reos, but i dont like pt cruisers either (sorry) ) In my case the ''cubbyhouse'' will be modified because it had previously been altered and would be immpossible to build back to original specs but i hope it will still retain an appearance of a vintage van when its being towed behind the FC (which is modified but looks original on the outside) but i doubt the interior will look to vintage

Thanks for your replies everybody I'm trying to get as much information as possible before i spend any money so your opinions are welcomed greatly. Greg, the van seems to be wired correctly but I need to move powerpoints and lightswitches(thats my next question)so getting a qualified sparky is on the list of things to do. I dont do electrics and I dont do brakes (I like living to much) I was hoping to run the cooker, a small bar fridge, the laptop, a kettle and the lights(one ugly fluro at the moment). Jim, Kambrook and Breville used to make a similar product but not anymore. The specs sheet say,max wattage 2.4KW, oven watt 1KW, grill watt 2KW,doesnt mention individual hotplate KWs. How long will it take Cathy to boil me up a cup of coffee and cook me up some bacon and eggs in the mornings ;D Earlee & Belinda, Cathy would like us to take the portable BBQ and the gas ring thingy they used in girlguides for cooking, because while we're away we stay at powered sites but we have a bad habit of breaking down and sitting on the side of the road waiting for the RAC man so she needs to be able to boil the kettle for my coffee. We've also got the microwave in the Baravan but rarely use it. I'm just thinking of options that keep weight down to a minimum, are cheap(?) and easy all opinions are welcome... we have no idea what we're doing and need all the help possible

As the cubbyhouse doesn't have any gas fitted and we prefer not to risk using an old kero stove, we are considering fitting a small electric cooker with two hotplates. The van is wired with 240volt power points and lights.( there is a clipsal safetyswitch fitted and the remains of an electrical approval sticker thingy on the window) We have only found one on the market, made by Euromaid. this has a 3point 10amp plug so there's no need to wire it in, but it has its limitations. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with small electric cookers and what your opinions are about fitting one in the cubbyhouse & Cathy

G,day Retro Question time starts now...and will probably continue for the next 12 months The same corner on the ''cubbyhouse'' is water damaged and needs similar repairs Q1. what timber is the frame made from ? ...I need to replace the bits my finger goes through As I dont have a rear window I am considering reshaping the tailend and taking out the flat areas to make it curved from top to bottom ....maybe Q2.. The ongoing debate ...Marine or Exterior ply ? Imported marine grade ( which is only marine on one side..which I figure is all I need as the poorer side would go on the inside ) is cheaper than the exterior grade Q3..1001 small panel nails held the original ply on, how do you fix the replacement ply on Q4.. assuming I manage to eventually get all the new ply on ...what products and methods do you reccomend to protect and decorate it with...and do I need to do any sealing/protective stuff before i put it on the van SORRY Retro But this is probably only the beginning The one who failed woodwork miserably at highschool but suddenly decided to rebuild a wooden caravan ?? ( and is a teatotaller so can't blame it on being intoxicated ! )

gday reddo i had electric brakes fitted to my van. theyre a bit more expensive than mechanical brakes but they have an override so i can put the brakes on the van manually if it starts swaying to pull it back in line. i'm just hoping i bought something i never need to use.
