Better late than never!
I'll add more as the threads come! If you want something added, just start a thread and I'll find it, if I've missed something, give it a bump and then I'll find it!

Hi,
I just noticed that our "traditional" Canungra weekend in November has been changed in cruisindoug's list to be at Stamford, which is the north side of Brisbane. A quick browse on the "other" vintage caravan forum shows its being organised as a Christmas do.
So that means that if some of us want to keep Canungra as an event, & at the same time, we need to organise it ourselves. I think a fair few of us would like to keep it going, but I also think it could revert to a lower key event as it used to be. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion.
If you have any interest in keeping it going, please send me a PM and let me know your thoughts, rather than have to post on the open forum at this stage.
Maybe it has to die, but I think it should be explored before we roll over & let things go.

Hi Dennis You beat me to it, I had intended to put up a post regarding Canungra and a move to Samford. After a couple of years of the caretaker double booking and having been there for a fair few years in a row a group of us have decided that we want a change from the venue at Canungra but retain the Christmas party aspect of this weekend. We of course welcome any and all to attend, and Samford has great facilities and are very keen to have us along. Its not a matter of changing anything except the venue, there have been plenty of unhappy campers the last couple of years at Canungra, especially last year when we did not get exclusive use of the hall as booked and had to share with the other group that ended up in the adjacent room. The caretaker said if we wanted to book the grounds that we would be the only Group there. It will be $15 per night for the time we book. Any extra nights would be $20. The hall costs $100 as opposed to Canungra that costs $70. The main difference is that the hall has walls, windows, doors and seats 600 people. There is a Fire pit for camp ovens if the Fire Brigade say it is OK. New showers & Toilets, Plenty of power and close to lots of Shops, Garage sales and Sight seeing. Samford Pics Hall Camp oven pit Camping area Outside sink Toilets and Showers So what we would like for the Christmas party is business as usual except at Samford, which seems to be a better venue and a more enthusiastic caretaker with regards to having us along. A couple of vintage vanners that went to the Samford show after being invited were certainly made to feel very welcome. Of course, if there is a group that wants to go back to Canungra again this year there is absolutely nothing to say otherwise, but it would be good if everyone came along to Samford Cheers Doug

Hi Doug
Thanks for explaining the reasons for the move to Samford & providing the great photos...it certainly looks like a fantastic venue, especially for the Xmas party which has been stretching the limits of the Canungra Showground for the last several years.
The increasing popularity of Canungra with the green shirt brigades & the gray boomers in their Whinnybagoes, plus canungra's basic amenities & overwhelmed caretaker combined with the Vintage Van groups popularity with hot rodders & modern van groupies has caused a few moments of angst the last few years.
So I support the move to Samford although I was initially a bit miffed that the decision seems to have been made by a committee of faceless people somewhere. Samford is a bigger, more organized site better suited to the Xmas Party, with DJ, catering etc etc etc
But that doesn't mean we have to throw the Canungra baby out with the bath water!
This gives us the opportunity to now have 2 totally different events with Samford as the Xmas Party & Canungra on the weekend of October 3/4/5/6 & very much how it used to be a few years back: a pretty laid back camping event with campfires, camp oven cooking, no money collected, as little or as much organization as the participants want & a bit more family friendly than the last few events at Canungra.
We want to go to both events if they happen & we're able! So I'm happy to take names for Canungra & let the caretaker know the numbers for the October long weekend close to the date. But I'm not organizing caterers or anything else for Canungra apart from offering to bring wood for the fires.
Cheers smiles

Hi Cathy. Agree whole heartedly with your sentiments. In the words of Sam Kechovich................."You know it makes sense!!!!!"
Sutcacs would try to support both events if they were on at different times.

Perhaps you can start up a thread?? We will try and make it to both events. Regards Di

Hi!
I'm a newby to this Forum. I took my vintage van to Cooly Rocks and heard from several people looking at my van about the SE Qld group. I am from Grafton and would be interested in meeting other van owners. I am interested in the Canungra weekend and would like some more information.

Hi Robyn welcome to our caravan world.Yes there is the SEQ group. Most Northerners are in both, with many different events held regularly.
One that is coming up soon is Christmas in July 18th -21st at South West rocks.North of Kempsey. Some are staying longer. The majority of people attending are from south of us.Would be a good way to meet Southerners.
We are 1hr up the road from you and will be going to this event, you would be most welcome to attend.
Just look into Events section to see details and also what may be happening on different dates.
Sue.

I am from Grafton and would be interested in meeting other van owners. I am interested in the Canungra weekend and would like some more information. Robyn Hi Robyn, I am the lady that sat down and talked to you and wrote down the forum information for you - welcome!. Glad that you have joined up and want to come along. We organise quite alot of events up around N/NSW and SEQ and always have a lot of fun and laughs, so i'm sure you will enjoy yourself. Canungra is on the weekend of October 3/4/5/6 i.e. the long weekend. In previous years Canungra has been our Christmas event, but the event has really got too big for Canungra and without much support from the caretaker. Therefore the Christmas event is now going to be at Samford. So we are having an event at Canungra in October instead, which will be a more low key event than Christmas. If you go to the top of this thread, you will see a calender with different dates and events listed. If you click on the blue link for Canungra it will take you to the Canungra Thread. Having said that, there isn't a great deal written on the Canungra Thread as yet, because we are still over 4 months away. But it will be updated as wee get closer to the time. But basically - it is held at Canungra Showground. There are facilities and powered and non powered sites available. (Smiles) Cathie has offerend to make the group booking, so you only need to mention on the Canungra thread that you will be attending and Cathie will add you onto the list. On one night we will no doubt end up at the pub for dinner, another night we will do camp ovens. There is a great pizza shop and a pie shop in town, so you won't go hungry if you don't feel like cooking. The pub has a courtesy bus in case we all have too much at happpy hour first There is a river, so you can have a swim if you wish. It's very relaxed - you basically just come along and relax and have some fun. Regards Diane

Hi All It looks like sutcac was expecting a pair of dacks from Santa on the circling Mopet . Just for the records I counted 38 vans at the event, and the temperature on Sat.was 42-43 deg, thus the little pool and a sprinkler system. Some folks ventured into the pond. A great time was had and enjoyed, great venue. Cheers boblor

G'day Richard, Yes we escaped the G20. It was a hot week end with temps hovering around 40 degrees The creek was popular. Clyde was his usual entertaining self and got lots of laughs with his party trick It was a great event in a fantastic venue. Cheers Bob and Jacqui.
