Absolutely agree, cobber! This is a first-class thread on how to give the care and attention that these Jennison vans deserve! John Jennison would be proud of you, Andrew. cheers, Al.

Such superb work going on.Btw the holes in the barrel bolt ends are for sliding a split pin through for securing the bolt in place.

Cobber I don't think slack is in your nature judging by your past and present projects and your helpful presence here on the forum! As far as having time goes ... Let's just say behind every " good" man is an amazing woman ! A very understanding woman! I have learnt so much from others who have taken the time out to post their pics and restorations so it's great to document and post so others hopefully have a heads up like I have had here! Al thanks for your kind words. It means a lot coming from you! Your innovation and attention to detail is an inspiration to all those that read your restoration thread. DC3Td Appreciate your encouragement and yes the hole in the barrel is for a lock etc I'll make up a pin to lock it when in transit. Glad you all are enjoying the journey as I am

Jeff not trying to demoralise you , ( besides if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have got the Jenno,) rather encourage you to get that 53 Jenno back to original livery! It deserves it!

Well it's time to fit all the windows ! Wasn't really looking forward to this job because the windows are meant to fit flush with the exterior walls but when I got the van I think gravity and time had taken its toll ( don't we all know about that!) and none of the windows fitted flush ! To start I stripped all the paint from the inside of the frames and the internal openings so to remove any excess paint build up that would cause binding . Then I primed and recoated both frames and openings. Frames internals painted and ready to install Procrastinating further I decided to clean up the window stays that were showing their age as well! (before and after) They are branded "EFCO" ( may help dating a van if you have these?) Window fitted! Looks easy aah! WRONG! Besides having to trim the outsides of the frames to fit I discovered that no two hinges were the same and they were probably the only thing I didn't mark accordingly when disassembling ( yellow face means " not happy Jan" for those who don't understand). So it was trial and error to get each window to fit correctly and about 12hours work!!!! NOTE TO ALL RESTORERS!!!!!! Mark everything you remove so you know exactly the way it goes back. I used one of those flat plastic utility boxes with the segments in them and labeled all screws fittings etc so for ease of reassembly! Anyway it's done now and very happy as windows fit as they would have done in 1949!! Nice and flush!! Box of bits and pieces! The next thing to do was to fit the latches . Apparently this type of latch is called a " Kangaroo" latch but looks more like a window latch to me! The front window has two but the large side windows only have one which causes each edge to bow out slightly. If anyone has any old ones of these I am in need of two cheers!

Well well well here we are again ! When I got the Jenno it had a few aftermarket accessories fitted and one of them was the full front Aluminium stone protector which was nicely done against the aftermarket side corner protectors with matching front window mould strips! On disassembly I found the original holes for the two separate stone guards so went to work and cut up the one piece into two! Not being a fan of the piping stuff that is commonly used I decided to recycle the old corner moulding strips that I removed way back when! ( this was the same profile that is around the van where the canvas roof meets the sides and also running along the lower side skirts so it matched in nicely) Before fitting the guards I decided it would be nice to jot a brief history of the van so in another 67 years the next person will have the heads up! Hey presto ! They're on! I tacked the panels on with Galvo nails and used a non silicone sealer underneath to keep the moisture out. Btw that's my eldest daughter Madelyn who loves to play her guitar and sing me her latest song she has written while I work ! I polished up the mouldings and tacked them in place with stainless pins very happy with the outcome!!

Hi Andrew,
You are doing a great restoration, so keep at it.
Its always a good feeling to look back over your pix after the job is finished, & remind yourself what you have achieved.
Hope to see the van one day

Thanks JBJ! Yeah it's been good to keep a record of what's been done . I might even get a photo book made up and keep it with the Van . It's been a very enjoyable journey right from the initial "laying eyes " on the old girl until now . I am really looking forward to the next phase of actually getting out and using it with the family and hopefully at some stage getting to the big island for an event and catch up with so many people I have met on the forum face to face! Although there's a bit of tidy up inside to do I'm aiming to give her a run in a fortnight for an overnight trip with my youngest daughter if all goes well with registration etc Fingers crossed!

Question! Is it OTT ( over the top for those who don't understand) to polish your Marconi track? Just spent the arvo stripping off the old paint and giving it a shine and reinstalling it on the Jenno. I ditched the old screws and replaced them with brass (slot heads of course!) screws Cobber I made sure the screws heads were lined up! And bunged som mastic in the holes so to keep the moisture out OTT or OCD it's done 50 screws later! Before and after Too many screws so little time!

Polish, scmolish. You did it because it makes sense and it looks good. OTT, you have go to be joking! Who out there doesn't think they spend too much time on what they are doing? I do all the time. All I want is to not use the tent and other camping gear I have and just get away in a van, all set up nicely as it suits us. You have done a great job and keep up with the photos. The problem with social media, which includes the various car, boat, van forums, etc, is to get drawn into to the need to entertain or impress other people, as as been seen on this forum. You are doing to your van what you think looks good or appropriate for your liking, so keep up the good work and keep up the photos. I don't think you realise how many members and untold amount of guests watch this forum and collect valuable information and some of us, like me, wait for your input. Regards, Bob.

G'day Andrew, You've done good mate ... now everybody can appreciate what a thing of beauty a nicely polished Marconi track is and the brass slot heads set it off to perfection ....beautiful. I think it might be a little bit OTT if you polish the clips on the awning/Annex though . Cobber.

Yeah cobber I tried polishing the clips on the annex but kept getting black polish stains on it so I gave up...... Mibosa aka Bob I totally agree Brass was made to polish! and yes great to be organised and have everything sorted .....even if it does take the rest of my life to do it Glad you and others are enjoying it I certainly am!

Well it's all coming to the pointy end of this project now so frantically trying to finish everything for rego this week! Over the last couple of days I have been working with those long bits of copper covered in rubber or plastic that carry the electrons to where they need to go .......the wiring of course! Starting with the 12v stuff . The original rear stop/ tail supply cable was run externally but I think it looks a bit agricultural and wonder why unlike the rest of the 12 volt wiring that is run internally that this didn't follow suite? Decided to join all the bits of copper behind the rear drawers as there was plenty of room because of the curves of Jennos backside (not that I was staring ) The stop tail feed comes in at the top of the strip link and the left and right stop/ tail indicators are fed from either side concealed in the rear storage nooks under the beds The main feed runs down through the floor and under the van....... and yes Cobber they are Phillips head screws but if yo look closely the slots all line up You will note that the supply cable comes up through the floor about 8" from the rear wall that's because the first hole I drilled (not thinking) close to the rear wall, went clean through the freshly painted outside ply not the floor due to the curve of the rear end! but it patched up ok! All tucked away behind the drawers That was the easy bit .....to be continued!

G'day Andrew, REGO THIS WEEK ! Good luck with it, she should sail through no worries It's OK mate, I did notice those screws but you have earned so many brownie points during this restoration that a bloke would have to be obsessive to make a fuss over that little lapse in concentration Cobber.

I too noticed those screws and modern electrical fittings. I'm disappointed Andrew. What's next? Electric brakes? Tubeless tyres? Led globes? Where will it all stop? Are you a hot rodder at heart? (Maybe a Betty Boop mural would look nice on the side of the Jennison though)
