Background .. We stayed there one night on last years East Coast Tour. The park is owned and operated by Frankie J Holden of ol' 55 fame and his wife. It is modern with great facilities, wood fired pizza oven, a HUGE camp kitchen close by the sites, free internet, big screen DVD/TV, kids play area and close to the beach, sitting well protected just behind the sand dunes. Nearby are cheese factories, wineries ,Eden and whale watching, Bega and many other small towns, also a large car restorers club who are all too keen to show us around. In short, one of the most pristine and scenic parts of the Sth Coast. ;D FJ made us extremely welcome, loved the VVs'- getting his photos with all of them ( autographing Reddos glove box!)and socialised with us all night as well. He's a great character and a top evening was had by all. ;D ;D After we left... he emailed Reddo and I, proposing that if we returned this year and could give him around 20 vintage vans staying overnight/the weekend or whatever you can manage, he would hang around cooking wood fired pizzas on the friday night and put on free musical entertainment on the saturday night, suggesting that Wilbur Wild may assist him as well as he is a mad old car freak himself. This is an exceptional offer...to have a park manager so keen to get us stay to there that he offers all this including some world class entertainment sitting in the comfort of a huge camp kitchen with plenty of seating should not be an opportunity lost. HOWEVER.... anyone thinking of going should commit and BOOK NOW as it is no good if we have only 10 or 12 confirmed bookings and in the last couple of weeks there is a late rush. FJ may well have checked the booking sheet a couple of weeks before the event himself, seen that we did not give him the numbers and decide to go do a corporate gig elsewhere!! Reddo and I have discussed this at length and this event will also be the kickstart to the 2012 EAST COAST TOUR for those who wish to continue on to Coledale and beyond. Those going on the tour will stay till Tuesday morning whereapon we will head Nth on the tour. REDDO WILL BE FOLLOWING UP WITH FULL DETAILS OF THE East Coast Tour SOON so come on BOOK NOW ;D PS When you book, let them know you are a vintage vanner and please PM me with your site number so I can keep tabs on our numbers attending. Bad luck Dave, bloody rellos getting in the way of a VV weekend! Speaking of the tathra weekend.....any more bookings yet anyone? I NEED TO KNOW IN ORDER TO LIASE WITH FJ ABOUT THE MOOSICAL ENTERTAINMENT to make sure it happens. I also met with Fletch from the "Fletches classic restos" TV show on sunday. The show is now sindicated to 13 countries worldwide. He is very keen to come down and do a show on the VVers at Tathra and the EC tour, not to mention avail himself of the chance for a great nights entertainment with FJ and Wilbur. SO people please try and commit soon if you can so we can lock FJ in for a great kickstart to the tour. jennison

I have said all along there is no garauntee that we will get the boys to belt out a few tunes for us... but i hope i am proved wrong. No matter what ... it will be a great weekend at Tathra...nice little sea side town with everything ya need close handy.
I am Still sussing out van parks for the tour after Tathra. Very aware that we need to find dog friendly parks on the way back up the coast.
Meanwhile keep the names coming for tathra guys... the more the merrier.

I have been friends with the "Koala" family for years and have had a teardrop for the past 8 years. When Ken suggested that this was a good weekend away I spoke to my social secretary and she thought it a good idea So. We have booked a site at Thathra and are looking forward to the weekend away with the rest of you..

Hi All you "Tathradites" Just as an add on to whats doing at Tathra in October i thought i will make mention of the caravan parks that are on the short list for this years east coast tour when we leave Tathra on Tuesday morning,,' Tuesday night,,,,, yup... you guessed it... ya cant go past :The Riverbreeze van park "at Moruya.. Most of you hardened touristy types have stayed thgere on previuos tours and will agree it takes csome beating when it comes to qusality of facilitys and powered sites .. www.riverbreeze.com.au/camping.htmlSure .. we could stay at Batemans bay and pay approx $12per extra for what i see as a park that doesnt come close to Moruya as far as ammenities . Other issue there is it is right on the hwy.. So is Moruya but we are down passed all the onsite vans which baffles the road noise. m A great meal at the pub right at the front gate to the van park. Wednesday night will either be ShoalHaven Heads Tourist Park. www.holidayhaven.com.au/Shoalhaven-Heads-Tourist-Park.htmlor Kendalls Beach van park at Kiama www.kiamacoast.com.au/Kendalls_Beach/index.htmlEasy run up to Coledale for Thursday night.. .http://www.coledalebeach.com.au/ Up friday and on to "The Pines Caravan Park"Belmont - Lake macquarie www.lakemacholidayparks.com.au/belmont/Last day of the tour .. and if there is anyone still keen on having one more night on tour....we head across Newcastle to Stockton Beach Caravan Park ( subject to sites availability) stocktonbeach.com/about-the-park/photo-galleryAs i said at the start these parka are just a short list at the moment for this years tour. Just thought i would tack the sites on here so ya can consider wether you would like to tag along after Tathra for a few days and enjoy life on the road town hoping up the coast. I will start a "2012 East coast tour "thread in a few months time. Give it some thought guys. Reddo .

Excellent stuff MO, we are getting real close and tops you and Kate can make it . I am pissed off if they have spread some of us around . I am sure that everybody has told them when they booked that they are with the VV group in Front of the camp kitchen. I will ring and email them tonight/tomorrow to straighten them out. welcome aboard jenno

Question?........ Do participants at tathra prefer the idea of dinner and FJ entertainment at the bowlo, a two minute walk across the road from the park or our own BBQ and entertainment from FJ in the park in the big camp kitchen? Personally I think I'd like to stay in the park but will go with the flow on this one. Please let me know soon. FJ is happy either way but we will need to let him know if we want the bowlo. As I said I think it will be more up close and personal if we stay in the camp kitchen. It has all we need for BBQ, cleanup and seating and entertainment. jenno

Hi Jenno. Our preference would be the camp kitchen also, but happy, as you say, to go with the flow. Re sites - we 'fessed up to be VV types, but didn't know the layout (never been there), as in "in front of the camp kitchen". Thanks so much for your organising efforts.

So, in advance, the answer is yes, we too like the idea of staying in the park in the big camp kitchen. Definitely much more up close and personal. Never know, we might all get to sing with him and show him how it's really done! Or is that being too cheeky? cheers Lyneth and Lazza

Hi Jenno I am happy with either venue... What we have to remember is the van park has a public walkway from the main road straight across through the van park to the beach. So...unless there is some sort of "security".. or way of shutting off that public access gate , the minute the music starts up we will have "blow ins " from all around the neighbourhood mingling with us. Again i have no problem with that ... providing it doesnt become a problem between the caravanners and the locals The up side with the club would be that the club would provide the security.. sure you would be mixing with the locals ... but possiblily in a more controlled environment. Its all good.. just thinkin worst case scenarios .. and i honestly think that Frankie J's good name in the town would be enough to command respect from the locals. Just my florins worth. Reddo

Hi Jennison, Cliff & Ingrid Massons & Winterbines are all booked in Sites 67-68-69 & we would all prefer to stay in the Caravan park for the entertainment. Cliff & I are hoping that we will be there as his recovery from the operation he had after Cowra is going a bit slow. He is having a bit of trouble eating enough to get him through. He has lost 10 kgs in 4 weeks so he won't be able to fill out the Santa suit anymore.!!! Thank you to all the people who wished him well at Cowra. Regards Ingrid.
