G'day Ray, I have long been an admirer of the gypsy waggons as evidenced by the first book in my cobbers library collectionYour project won't be everyone's cup of tea πbut I'll be watching to see you are true to the fine traditions of the "living vans" including the use of slot head screws, I can't wait to see what livery you choose for it considering some of your previous efforts π What I expect. Recommended Don't let a blonde distract you from the job at hand. Cobber.

G'day Ray, That is a BIG question aye ? ...... we will have to wait and see, although the idea is not unique anymore. Some time after I proposed the idea I noticed a bloke three doors up the road was painting a Millard van that he had placed beside his house for the son to sleep in, in camo colours. So you are right hughdeany, it is a small world. Strugglebrook, the bolt heads have only been exposed since earlier this year so it's only a very light coating of rust, easily neutralised I would have thought, much easier than replacing them all with rivets. I was once known as a slot head screw nut, now I'm also a slot head bolt nut ππ Cobber.

Doesn't time fly π’ May 2015 was the last time I posted an update on work being done on this poor old van, not because of a lack of interest or because the van hasn't got a heap of potential but because I have a lack of energy π© It has now been passed on to a forum member with more energy than he knows what to do with so we can now watch as things happen. Practically all I have done with it since 2015 is replace the canvas in the front bunk and splash a bit of paint around inside. Remove the top layer of paint by using paint stripper and then hitting it with high pressure water sprayer, I found the system worked well on aluminium. Time to move him on π Good luck with it John ππ Cobber.

G'day Leon,
I've still got this unique old van mate but haven't done much to it in recent times. I've been feeling a bit poorly so he is on the back burner ( it is a 'he', nothing pretty about this one π ) It has been tidied up a bit in places but still needs painting, lights refitted, upholstery made for it, new tyres, fridge made to work I've had it tested and there are no leaks.
I still dream of painting it in camouflage and camping amongst the trees beside a river watching the water birds and crocodiles float by, dropping a line in to catch lunch and then having a pipe while sipping on a Sarsaparilla, somewhere like Parry's Lagoons would be good ππ
It ain't gunna happen so I should maybe move this van on when I get a round tuit.

IN THE BACKGROUND The contract said she would be the star this time. Struth George, this means I have to start going to the toilet during the program so I can be in front of the TV during the ads. Cobber.

Thank you all for your nice thoughts on my well and truly vintage birthdayπ
At least I do have a vintage caravan that is more vintage than me.

G'day gobblelobster, Have you had a look at the huntsman thread vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/9569 in our DHL section ? They made vans for many firms including Bluebird. Scroll down the thread and tell me if there is any similarity with your van and the one made for Lylack. I know the windows are different but a craftsman could do that no worries. Cobber.

G'day Paulyk, Is there any chance the brand on your corrugated iron actually reads "St Vincent's" ? If so there is some information on Wikipedia regarding John Lysaght starting at the "St Vincent's Works" in the U.K. in 1857. See here, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysaght_(Australian_company)And here, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Vincent%27s_WorksI don't know if their iron, or the previous owner Acraman and Company ever branded the iron "Vincent brand" but it sounds like a possibility to me, more research needed. Where did you find your sample, does it look ancient, can you post a photo please ? π Cobber.

For the 'RITZ' I reckon I could line up a long term engagement with some of the chic brand names in somewhere like David Jones π I can see it now.... perfume one week, exclusive fashion the next week, ladies shoes on special occasions, all with the RITZ in a starring roll, just like Ol '36 had in the Woolies Ad. π

G'day Geoff & Jude,
Gee that is sad news, such a beautiful tree & such a beautiful van. As Di said after the second attack these things come in threes so you should be right after this one. With the experience you've got I'm sure you'll do a first class job on the repairs π

And Garry ( carapark ) has done it again π΅ This time in a Best & Less TV ad now showing, in fact I think there may be two, one for kids and one for adults π
'Summer Styles' I think it's called and Garry's van does have a starring roll.
Can't find a link to it yet π

Well done George, I was wondering if you would rise to the bait and use your investigative skills to solve the mystery. You are spot on, the camera was inside the other van for that shot. Beautiful van with awning erected, BBQ going, water view in the background (and they paid $200 more for that van than they paid for Ol '36 π’) you would have expected it would have had a more visible important high profile starring roll in the advertisement, like Ol '36 had πbut no, they wasted the opportunity. After the photo shoot I went home π©. The other van, which is about 29 years younger than Ol '36, went to the 2017 Shellharbour event for the weekend. So there is the clue for you to work out who owns the other van and what it is ππ Cobber. The ad. Is HERE

G'day George,
You're very observant but you have to be quick don't you π Ol '36 actually gets two starring rolls in that advertisement, one right at the beginning when it shows the cook and the lady sitting on a chair behind Ol '36 enjoying the view. Then along come those inconsiderate young people π in their beat up old van and block off the view "share the view" π In fact there are two vintage caravans involved in that scene, can you pick up on the other one ?

Warning to fellow Vintage Caravan People. Has anybody else come across these people?? Concerned Traveller. "Anybody come across these people" ? .... I AM ONE OF THEM There we were returning home along the M7 from a high paying gig for the 'Woolworths Christmas Advertising campaign' out at the Palm Beach 'Home and Away Summer Bay' location when suddenly ...... the traffic slowed down. Usually, on the M7 when the traffic speeds up again we never discover why it slowed down in the first place but on this occasion the culprit was a vintage caravan travelling at the silly slow safe speed of something like 85 KPH. Problem was, it looked like the same caravan in front of me that I had on behind me so I just had to pass it ...... STRUGGLEBROOK & RATTCLIFFE !!! Sorry we couldn't follow you all the way to Shellharbour but we had a few issues on the plate this year. Cobbers.
