i have been told by flooring people that the asbestos tiles don't present a problem as long as they're in good condition and sealed/polished properly.
if they have a nice pattern that you like, it may be worth considering keeping them.

well, this is what it is all about. dhl (12 pages) and members' photos album (33 pages) have a huge amount of information about vintage caravans including vintage caravans types and pictures but they are obscured amongst long threads containing rebuild information, a lot of banter and some useless information, making it difficult at times to find or to show people who are interested in the subject. the idea of "FORUM MEMBER PROFILES" is to provide an area which is specifically designed to allow each member to show 4 or 5 photos of their van and maybe 1 photo of their towcar or towcar/van combination. the profile would be forwarded to a moderator who would put it in FMP and list it under the van name, year and member name. to keep it simple and easy to maintain, there is not meant to be any comment added to the profile by other members. the sole purpose of the profile is intended to be a quick and ready photographic reference to each members' vintage caravan. a member may add more than one profile if he/she has more than one vintage van - but only one page per van. if you haven't seen it yet click on forum members' profiles to see what we mean. hope this helps to explain what the intention of the profile is. geoff

nothing wrong with the solar system to keep a trickle charge to the battery - at least the solar energy is free.

hi jason
a typical car alternator would be putting between 60 to 80 amps//hour into the battery - not sure about a generator but probably less than that, maybe 30 to 40.

hi jason
it can't be done successfully
reason 1
without going into the mathematics of the idea, you cannot put as much energy into the van battery as you are taking out of the car battery due to the amount of energy you are using to run the inverter - if this was not the case you would be creating perpetual motion, which is impossible.
the only way it could work would be to run the car motor at the same time, so your alternator/generator can replenish the car battery's energy.
if that's the case, (and it is), you might as well forget about the inverter, connect your van battery in parallel (+ve to +ve and -ve to -ve) to your car battery and run your car engine to increase the energy - this saves you the losses you would have incurred to power your inverter - this is generally how van batteries are charged. (if you don't run the engine, the two batteries will simply balance the total of the two).
reason 2
a 300w inverter cannot run a 10A battery charger - the charger would be drawing 33 times more power than the inverter could supply.

hi will and lyn here's one that goes to kiama every christmas. the guy owns a guest house/property near cootamundra and uses it as a tour bus during the year to pick passengers up from sydney and carries them up to his guest house. at christmas he pulls a few seats out and puts bunks in their place and uses it as his camper. it's got a cummings diesel in it and he says it gets better economy than our blue ford and it cruises effortlessly at 100k's all day. it's a real nice example of the model. geoff

hi adam and everyone else.
generally, everyone has the same spot as they had the previous year, so you'll be grouped with 'the team' again this year.
the only time people are in different sites is if there is a 'casual vacancy' available to facilitate a change.
it's best for us if you book in using your user name rather than your real name - it makes it much easier for both us and norm to keep track of the bookings.

I go with the suggestion i threw up last year. Street party saturday night. Block off the road at the toilet block. Row of tables down the middle of the road towards the surf club after the evening meal... (or have a mass BBQ) . everyone brings a plate of nibbles and drinks. Maybe a beach party / Hawian fancy dress theme again It would be good to take up Julies offer of a band having a bash for an hour or maybe 2... bit of rock n roll ....nothing too loud Those that wanna bop... can bop.. Those that wanna sit .have a listen around a campfire can do so. music over by around 9 so the locals dont whinge here's the first idea for a bit of entertainment (if julie's ok to organise the band) plus a good way to get together saturday night. what do you all think? geoff

howdy all
we just got off the phone talking with norm and he was asking about coledale dates for this year.
as usual, it will be the weekend after the nsw school holidays, so that makes it friday october 15 to sunday october 17.
we've let norm know that some members may arrive earlier and/or stay longer, so please let us know your intentions (including what day you expect to arrive) via this thread or by pm so the organisation can begin.
last year was a 'little flat', so any thoughts on how to improve the 'excitement factor' can also be added here.
(this year we hope to hold another charity auction - this time the proceeds will be going towards prostate cancer research - more on that later.)
hope to hear from you all soon - lets make this the best year ever.

hi humpty
that light is the same as the one kb gave us for 'the ritz' over the dining table.
you can still get new bulbs for it from lighting specialists.
we've got a couple of spare bulbs if you can't find one.
