Ha ha....poor Al....whack on a little lippy & tot around in higher heels Al & you will feel right at home at Spotlight! Sorry..didn't mean to sound sexists especially when I LOVE Bunnings and get strange looks when I am in the "trade" section! And for old materials....try the Vic market...they have rolls of fabric that I swear have been there since I was a kid...and yes...a GOOD many years ago! Can you sew also Al? If you can do a turn on the sewing machine I am impressed and sincerely apologise!!! And Seeshells....I still get that when working with "the boy"...they ask HIM questions etc and ignore me! It still goes on believe me! Raa indeedy! J

PS - Bunnings is just around the corner from McMats if you need the adhesive/scraper in Canterbury Road! And ladies....Spotlight is across the road from Bunnings for curtain fabric! Can do the lot in one swoop!

Well went to McMats...patted the little cute jack russell had a few words to the staff (?) humorous lot who all wear standard work safe issue thongs! Pointed me in the direction of lino rolls as the vynal sq didn't have the col I wanted......Seeshells is correct....if you are looking for some vynal go have a look. I spied something interesting..."Dave" pulled it out & kept insisting it was not enough! He thought I was looking to redo a bathroom/laundry. Explained it was for a vintage caravan. Now he was more than happy to help me out with a price he simply plucked from his head! $50 what could I say...trying not to be too keen I hesitated & he dropped it to $30! Reluctantly, I handed over my money.....CASH ONLY....have to know how much you want as they haven't a clue about caravan's but they told me that they would look after the Vintage Van Forum members and were happy if we included them onto our list of suppliers......and for you HOT RODDERS...there are some lino's there that have a sparkle embedded in the finish....pretty cool! Not a big range but certainly as Seeshells has mentioned...retro/old looking enough to suit vans! Just had to get this enormously heavy roll into the Pulsar (son's car) & get it in the van! Oh and they don't sell any adhesives etc.....but they did tell me how to do the job cause I have no idea what I am doing!! Dave's super tip - If floor uneven, lay down sheets of newspaper! Well done Seeshells like you...me happy with purchase & it was only a ten minute drive!!!!!

Sorry didn't realise you all had replied. The wheels are completely different to the above photo Al. But they are a little bit "fancy" and did not go thru Macca's drive thru! Definitely has his paw on a tyre! Have 5 triangular raised arrows pointing inwards....camera doesn't want to co-operate today! I should have explained properly....the "silver" rims click onto the actual wheel on the outside wheel rim. They are simply a fancy silver circle to pretty it all up...then the holden hub cap fits in the centre. All in A1 cond. The van has light truck tyres on it at the moment. If I get them replaced (all are pretty good) but for my peace of mind, are light truck tyres the way to go? Have just managed to take all the rims etc off....took me awhile...had to use a (jemmy?) bar thing. You have to love the people who put mountains of paint onto things...I used paint stripper in the end on the stove alum surround and it came off easily without any damage to the shine!

Seeshells - maybe that IS HOW you got to have that skull in there.....too many inhales on that paraphernalia you found in the under cupboard! "The boy" is also just a little over 6ft & although it seems the votes are against removing it...he would "crack" it (literally on the noggin' once too often) and get rid of it! I on the other hand would most likely clear it by a good foot to spare! So I would be arguing the point with him "original", "original"! Little ones growing into teenagers is something we can't stop unfortunately...but I bow to the inventor of the ipod & iphone....youngun's plug in when they "retire" to their cave & there could be a nuclear bomb next to them in bed & they are totally oblivious! So any noise for them is a thing of the past! However, I do agree with Don Ricardo...our daughter when 13/14 yo (now 30) would always lie in the middle of us & watch TV late at night....the quickest way to get rid of her was "snuggle".....she was off like a shot spouting how disgusting! AND denim skirts & muttonchop blouses, har, anything could happen in the next cycle of fashion! Hubby may be able to breathe easy as our kids are now wearing vintage 70's/80's that I wore as a teenager......scary!

Alas...my no name (CLAYTONS) aka "sassy-gabby" vv does not have this.....even though there is a double bed at one end and the table drops to make another.....lights out when first inert/soft person hits the pillow....is going to be the rule when we finally roll out the driveway!! Drinking etc is to be done OUTSIDE under the stars with whom ever they rope in to join them! Tough rule hey? I agree with a lot of the comments above however.....if it was originally there Seeshells, I would tend to leave it, especially if you have a little one that do tend to grow up VERY quickly. Before you know it, she will be telling you to get out of the van, don't look Dad! Been there, done that with ours who are not little innocents anymore! Personal choice really as JBJ has indicated.

Anyway I love your Kennedy.....now I want one and that particular van was only 30 mins away from us all this time...what a find. Well done!

Easter hey? That was my deadline...ummm...I think twelve months ago! Always raining here lately & can't get out to do final scrubbing/painting of chassis & check tail lights etc.....NOW I have been asked to zoom up to Brisbane for easter.......hummmm.....vin vanning or swanning around cafe's...it's a dilemma. All I have found is an old lace edged handkerchief, a bottle of green food colouring & patty paper pack.......sure was hoping for a bag full of green notes stashed away! Glad you got the skull though.....urgh....! We do softscapes (lawns & garden renovation etc) & the things we find in gardens also gives us plenty of chuckles.....working in St Kilda is always a novelty! Your van doesn't look that bad inside...are you taking everything out & replacing or simply changing decor col's etc? Shame on you being a pharmacist & not knowing what a bong heater was! J

I like it Seeshells......it doesn't look that bad actually! Sympathize with the fridge col..mine old 3 way was hot pink...what the?...turfed it out as I could not get it to work! Was hoping "the boy's" bar fridge wouldn't fit as I had my eye on this cool retro look "new" fridge on that site we can't mention! But it did fit perfectly only after I took the door jamb off, the door off the fridge, the legs off the fridge and pushed hard, scraping all my new paint work!!!! Definitely keep the little stove for a forum member if you ditch it. I eyed my stove with disgust & thought to replace it but surprisingly it all came up a treat after 4 days of scrubbing. Sure you don't want to have a go at keeping it? I kinda think they are cute. Good luck with the resto. You are sooooo lucky to have have 2 Dad's that can help you out! I have done the resto completely on my own but my vv was in pretty good nick I have to say! Keep in touch with the photo's love looking at them! And thanks for all you info on registering that you provided me with.....crossing my fingers no drama's when I turn up. A thought, never towed a van before...could be interesting going down Mt Dandenong! J

Crikey...again...100 posts eh? That either means, I have achieved a batting century of knowledgeable stuff roaming around in my brain I wish to impart to you all or all my questions contributing to that milestone means I too AM stoopid! Ha well the shelf is a dilemma it seems. Watch out anyone who has a FRANKLIN when I eventually come across a member to this forum, would not let me in the door of your van if I was you! I am sure Al I could knock up a piece of triangular wood for support. There is this nice new christmas pressie given to the boy that resembles...yep..a drop saw thing on a stand! I am positive I could switch it on....Guess no-one out there has a spare shelf so Al can confirm for me. Glad I keep you entertained...I obviously scourge this site way to often! Thanks Al & Leigh really for all your advice & help...this is not the last you will hear from me...oh no it's not! When I nick that shelf, I will need you guys to tell me exactly what height to put it above the sink! J

Hee hee hee! Aaaaaaaaaal...now really...fudging?...me?....surely not! BUT are you sure I can't whack in an old shelf...it would be installed correctly...drill, scewdriver, nice old rusted screws.. by me who has sworn the oath...I have...I swear! Know it off by heart. Eyelids are batting profoundly Al! Geez what does it take to confirm I have an old VINTAGE FRANKLIN! Thanks for the link to Hella on that site we can't name, but I think I did in a recent post...oops! Will have a look now. Would love to keep the old lights...so will keep chasing. Or use some elec tape to disguise it. Is that called fudging also Al? Thanks Seeshells...lordy, lordy, lordy, for all that info. You should have no prob's with your rego. I on the other hand need to acquire a new extinguisher & fire blanket by the sounds of it. There is one there but last checked in 1983! There are white reflector lights on the front already. The van was registered back in the 90's sooooooo maybe they have it on file. Thanks again everyone....hopefully the orig numbers won't be too much of an issue! Even when it is in a difficult viewing position. Cheers everyone J

Thanks guys...and you are a GENTLEMAN Al to put up with all these inane questions I keep throwing at you! As for fudging for a FRANKLIN certificate...course I am....(eyelids are batting like crazy!) You sure I can't whack in a look-a-like shelf? I will look at said site we cannot name....Geez you guys make things difficult to put a name on said van...what the HELL is it...guess I will have to rename it..."CLAYTON"...you know...the FRANKLIN you have but it may not be! And GURU of F's......do I HAVE TO know what year etc it is to register? ? I don't want to ring, book, turn up & they ask me "So ma'am what is it".......batting of eyelids may not work if I get a female stern official....could look like a "d#@*head" also! My reputation as being a slightly intelligent female could be on the line here. Seeshells - there is a fire extinguisher but I am guessing 1993 last check will not pass inspection so may have to look into new one & fire blanket...thank you for all your info - sounds simple enough. There are already white round reflector lights at the front as it has been registered before so maybe it is already on "file". Just wasn't too sure if I had to have the above lights working as well! Their kinda cute if lights can be called cute........J

PS: Leigh....I think I would have "quietly" argued the point also regarding keeping the old number as opposed to stamping in a 10 digit # I really hope to keep our 3 digit if I can......these vans become quite a personal attachment after working on them for so long! But in the end I guess, as Seeshells commented, they hold those damn plates........Grrrrrrr J

Crikey.......! Thank you for your input everyone. a) Al...you just never let us down....hope you find those stoopid bearings to repair that stoopid newcastle....I have called my vv more than that in the last few months....you r a gentleman! U are right with the welding of numbers in a difficult place. Very neat job I have to say. Just a ridiculous place to put it. Must have been over a pit or hoist. No-one in their right mind would crawl under to do it! But do I still NEED a year of manufacture/what it is for rego and I would like to insure it once registered... don't I? I am assuming I can't just rock up & say..."It's an old van..."
b) A shelf eh? That is all it will take to have an identity? Done...shall whack one in....when I have successfully nicked one! Orrrr...can I... make one or put in an old shelf I may just find?
c) The lights at the top on each side of van need to be working for rego? The rubber surrounds are really perished, but I would like to keep them original. Can you still obtain the rubber surrounds? Been to a several places...but..nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
d) Will DEFINITELY call Vic Roads before I go....good idea..anyone know the waiting list to register...you have to pre book don't you? Never rego'd anything before.
e) Batter eyelids & smile a lot! Offer a cushion when they have to kneel in yoga position...what was it Al? #43?
See how we go......thanks everyone. J

Soooooooo....no-one knows if welded 3 digit numbers is still ok for registration? Even if it is in a difficult hiding place where the spare wheel needs to be taken off and crawling on all fours to view by an officialdom? Annnnnnnnnnd.....could "sassy-gabby" chassis number 565 mean it is an early FRANKLIN I have been laboring over??? Where are you almighty Franklin1 I am sure you would know. You just know these things!.............don't let me down now!!!!
