Hi there Maybe many of you already know about this place, McMats, but I feel like I've just been to a real treasure trove of weird stuff - brilliant! The website is a bit light on but it gives you an idea what they have in Bayswater VIC: www.mcmatsrecycledcarpets.com.au. Not sure if they ship interstate - may not be a help to the Welshmen or SEQs. You can get industrial carpet as well as commercial vinyl squares that look very similar to some of the old speckled patterns available in the 50's and 60's. Limited stock but generally that's not too much of an issue - I for example only needed 10sqms from stem to stern. And apart from finding hard to find things that look great, it's cheap (despite what the husband thinks, I do occasionally do a head check...). Carpet squares from $1 and the heavy vinyl squares coming in around $15 sq/m. Not bad. And you get to stamp your "green" card for recycling materials - to go with the recycled vans! Happy flooring. Cheers Seeshell

Well went to McMats...patted the little cute jack russell had a few words to the staff (?) humorous lot who all wear standard work safe issue thongs! Pointed me in the direction of lino rolls as the vynal sq didn't have the col I wanted......Seeshells is correct....if you are looking for some vynal go have a look. I spied something interesting..."Dave" pulled it out & kept insisting it was not enough! He thought I was looking to redo a bathroom/laundry. Explained it was for a vintage caravan. Now he was more than happy to help me out with a price he simply plucked from his head! $50 what could I say...trying not to be too keen I hesitated & he dropped it to $30! Reluctantly, I handed over my money.....CASH ONLY....have to know how much you want as they haven't a clue about caravan's but they told me that they would look after the Vintage Van Forum members and were happy if we included them onto our list of suppliers......and for you HOT RODDERS...there are some lino's there that have a sparkle embedded in the finish....pretty cool! Not a big range but certainly as Seeshells has mentioned...retro/old looking enough to suit vans! Just had to get this enormously heavy roll into the Pulsar (son's car) & get it in the van! Oh and they don't sell any adhesives etc.....but they did tell me how to do the job cause I have no idea what I am doing!! Dave's super tip - If floor uneven, lay down sheets of newspaper! Well done Seeshells like you...me happy with purchase & it was only a ten minute drive!!!!!

G'day Jennie, Sexist!! ;D I'll have you know I also shop at Spotlight...and Lincraft...and anywhere else I think might have old upholstery/curtain material. ;D ;D Funny thing about Spotlight and sexism... a number of years ago I sent the paperwork away to join their VIP Club. Yep me, a bloke. Seems their computer system couldn't handle the fact I was a male. The VIP card and correspondence came back with Mrs. Joe Bloggs on it. And so did every letter I got from them after that. cheers, Al.

HI Jenni I know it's a real mecca around there - Don't worry Al(icia) you can come with me to Spotlight - I got upholstery fabric that was the perfect colour for $7 p/m. Needless to say I snapped it up and my cushions for the banquette have come up a treat!. If you begin to feel a bit discriminated against at Spotlight as a gent, have a care for us poor ladies who DO know a thing or two about car repair and are doing it for ourselves... Me (at the Subaru dealer in the 80's): I need a few things for the car. Parts Manager: Ok darling, did your boyfriend give you a list? Raa! Seeshell

Ha ha....poor Al....whack on a little lippy & tot around in higher heels Al & you will feel right at home at Spotlight! Sorry..didn't mean to sound sexists especially when I LOVE Bunnings and get strange looks when I am in the "trade" section! And for old materials....try the Vic market...they have rolls of fabric that I swear have been there since I was a kid...and yes...a GOOD many years ago! Can you sew also Al? If you can do a turn on the sewing machine I am impressed and sincerely apologise!!! And Seeshells....I still get that when working with "the boy"...they ask HIM questions etc and ignore me! It still goes on believe me! Raa indeedy! J

Can you sew also Al? If you can do a turn on the sewing machine I am impressed and sincerely apologise!!! Hi Jenniwren, You asked whether Al can sew... Check out his van at the 2010 V V Nationals at Mildura: See the canvas inserts in the pop-up roof? All his own work! And I think the canopy you can just see the edge of around the other side of the caravan is also all his own work. Despite what he'll tell you, he's a man of many talents, because he also fully refurbished the van! Don Ricardo

Shame about mending socks though...that's a tradition that is soo sadly lacking in men today! Don R what can I say....Al is the all rounder....lovely job on the sewing machine with that canvas. Does he cook I wonder? J
