Hey reddo why not make a frame within the original frame that opens sideways (Federation style) that way you get to choose in good or bad weather what suit 's you best ;D Hwyman.

Hey Gristy i guess you only have a single piece of angle on each side if that's the case what i would do is run some thicker angle 4or5mm under each side so it becomes a box section instead of angle. if you buy it a little wider you can run your weld's where it over hangs at the top and bottom (much easier) i would only weld it at about every 200mm with weld's being about 25mm long.

Hi all;
As i was reading the thread about quality paint job's and protecting your van from the elements, I recalled reading of a fella who wanted to protect his van from the weather he couldn't build a permenant fixture carport etc as it was not his home.
He also had limited tool's and building expeirence so he went to his local pluming and hardware store and purchased all the material to build his own carport and it looked great.
He used 50mm pvc pipe, T piece's joiner's etc and only needed a hacksaw, tape measure and a tin of that blue joining cement. He then purchased some of those silver tarp's and had them stitched together to slip over the frame.
He then pegged the fixture to the ground this gave him access to his van while still bieng ventilated without tarps rubbing or condensating. How easy would it be to move if need be? I think i may have to check out the cost involved !!! i know Supercheap have those gazebo's things but i dont think they're high enough and look very flimsy and would probably rust out in no time .

Hi franklin 1. You may like to try the ballarat mechanics institute, they would likely have more information than the melbourne news papers or even try the ballarat courier news papers. Hi All; My brother had one of those white wall machines some years back. Cost about $600, not sure now if he got it from Sydney or Brisbane. Basically they are a fwd-rv power drill in a box, driving a flexy drive cable with a grinding disc on the end. It also drives a shaft thats sticks out of the box and is pushed under the tyre to rotate it. The disk cuts into the wall of the tyre a few millimetres and can be adjusted to the width band you want. Then they use a little aluminum roller with a squeeze bottle attached to put the white or red walls on. They use to use a special swimming pool paint that had a flexible membrane that allowed it to flex with the wall of the tyre. It looked very effective, but i don't know how you would go claiming for a defected tyre once you have cut a groove into the wall. You could possibly void your warranty. Hwyman

Hi all; For what it's worth, I have found placing your paint brush in an old plastic shopping bag wrapped tightly keeps the paint and the brush from drying for up to a week. Handy if your painting over a few days. Just unwrap it, dip it in the tin and away you go again. Hwyman

Thanks reddo & kaybee i went down to the local trailer shop today and bought some wheel studs but they to only had the ones with the 14mm base so they had to do. ($2 each) anyway i went home to drill out the 6 holes in the 2 hubs and found i only had 11mm and a 14mm drill bit so went and bought a 13mm bit to get the correct fit $20. all done now i sold this van on saturday (ebay) $610 18ft was going to be teenagers b/room but took up to much room in the yard so i put him in one of the other vans . most of the wheel nuts on one side were rusty from being down on the coast col they decided to snap rather than undo. thanks for your suggestions though Brian.

Hi all one of my vans a tandem has six broken wheel studs. i tried to get some from super cheap yesterday but they were to thick at the base the ones i removed are 12mm . i removed one from my 60s silver van to thick 14mm one from my 50s bondwood that has too sets of holes fx stud pattern on the outer and has been re-drilled for ej-eh stud pattern they were also to thick . so i removed one from my old trailer that has fx brake drums also to thick most seem to be about 14mm in diamater at the base where they press into the hub. :(has anyone else experienced this before any help would be appreciated thanks Brian.

Hello again looking at the pic's closer this van look's to have a possible medical- sceintific (Geologly?maybe) history going by the size of the sink with large splash back and those sticker's on the cupboard doors are they displaying there previos content's or has the last owner done this? maybe it was an early dental van or even used to travel out to aboriginal reserve's like a mobile hospital
