8-) The Shoalhaven Caravan Club is hosting the 2009 NSW State Rally of caravan clubs at the Berry NSW show ground on 13th, 14th and 15 th march 2009. We would like to extend an invitation to you to join us with your vintage vans. We would hope you would be happy to put your vans on display, it is up to you if you wish to show inside. We would be able to supply power to a limited number of your vans. we are expecting up to 150 vans, at least 300 people. We have a great week-end planned. If you are interested and want more info just post a question and I will be happy to give you an answer. PS I am the club secretary.

Hi Berylbarney Berry is a great little town.
You can put my name down for that weekend. Sounds like a great event. I would probably suffle my flexiday at work so i copuld travel down from Newcastle. I will pm you my proper name and contact details. If i have my Mildred van finished i will bring it. If i dont i will be there with a 1954 ( a very good year) Bondwood Fairway van. 2 questions.
Will camping be allowed at the display site ?? Will we be allowed to camp at the showground on friday night
I challenge other vintage vanners to come along and be part of this display and show people what caravanning was like back before air conds, microwaves, TVs etc.

Hi berylbarney, As reddo says, Berry is a great little town. They have a very popular Sunday Market on the first Sunday of each month, and in fact it was at these markets that I recently scored a vintage Shields Jetflame gas stove for the princely sum of 10 bucks (I was happy ;D) I did notice when I was there that there were some caravans down near the southern end of the showground, and figured there must be a "mini" caravan park there. Little did I know that you could fit up to 150 vans in the grounds! I should take a bit more notice next time There is a basic website for the Shoalhaven Club: www.caravanclubsnsw.asn.au/shoalhaven.htm (Are you in the first photo Beryl?) Perhaps this could be used to give further details out to interested people? Sounds like it will be a fantastic event! Just as an interesting aside, here we have Shoalhaven/Berry promoting a National caravanning event, and in another little locality (Toolijooa) only a "few" kilometres north of Berry, the locals are protesting against a development proposal for a caravan park with 1040 (!!) long-term dwellings. Funny how the world turns... cheers, Al.

G'day Berylbarney, Thank you for the invitation. Is this event associated with the “NSW Association of Caravan Clubs” as shown on their web site @ www.caravanclubsnsw.asn.au/index.htm ? A very interesting site to pan through.. love the photo gallery. We take great pleasure in the fact that we are not a “club”...... we have no president, secretary or treasurer, or membership fees, and not much discipline either, we certainly don't have a club uniform . If people from our fraternity (vintage caravans) were present at Berry would we be able to locate in close proximity to each other ? Finally, is there a fee associated with attending this event ? Cobber.

I am about to post a pm to "berylbarney" asking for them to remind us about this event after xmas. Wether it be via another post here on the forum or via a flyer or phone call. I reckon it would be a good opportunity to fly the vintvan flag amongst the modern stuff. I appreciate what Cobber done for our cause at the recent stream field days and by all accounts he done us proud. The Berry event will be different to the normal collection of vintage stuff we usually attend. An opportunity to show the owners of the mega bucks fifth wheelers just how simple camping caravanning can be. Hmmmm i wander if anyone down there will swap a flea bitten old bondy for a nice comfy 28ft Roma with microwave, air cond, plasma TV..... :oslap, slap, slap,,,, Ouch .. what was that for ... a mans allowed to dream aint he... Oh allright i will stay on track in the future ;D Reddo

G'day Reddo, I like the idea of flying the Vintage 'van flag at any opportunity so I would be interested in going to this event.... if we can get a few questions answered by Beryl, I expect there might be costs involved because they do go to a bit of trouble setting up marques and providing food, not a problem so long as people know what to expect. I also still think it would be good for Vintage 'vans if we were able to attend some of the CCIA's “Caravan Super Shows” as per vintagecaravans.proboards30.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=323&page=1Problem with them is..... space is limited, they have to know well in advance how many are interested & they may not be able to accommodate to many of us. Cobber.

Hi cobber
I know what ya mean about these super shows having limited space. The use to be just caravanning and camping expos. There was one here in the Hunter last weekend ... "The Hunter valley Caravanning, camping, fishing, boating, 4x4, outdoor living and lifestyle expo" So by the time ya get every man and his dog into the venue there is bugger all space left.
Not so bad if we are invited to put on a display whereby we arent selling anything at a commercial stand. But if we are going to get hit with similar fees and charges .. well then we will just back out of it.
I feel by what Beryl has said its a basic display of Caravans... not a full blown bells and whistles expo of any sort. In which case we would only expect to pay someone like the showground trust a nominal; fee for camping there. Its usually about $10 per night at a swap meet held at a showground.
Have checked out the caravan website that you put the link up for... no mention of 2009 yet.
I have pm 'Berylbarney" will post here if they get back to me. Reddo

I would like to attend this event as Berry is such a lovely place.
Unfortunately it is the same weekend as Chrylsers on the Murray, so I know which will be Alan's choice.
Perhaps I can bring the van down to Berry and he can stay at a motel in Wodonga. ;D ;D
We will see closer to the time

Hi all,
Whilst at Coledale (with the help of Lynelle) - I got to talk to Les Watson who is one of the organisers of the Caravan Club State Rally in Berry in March.
He gave me his contact number and email address.
As I don't think that any of you have heard back from Beryl as yet - I am about to email Les with the questions that you have listed above and see what he comes back with.
Regards Di

[glow=red,2,300] Hi all,
Following is the reply to my email[/glow] Hi Diane, Les has passed your email onto me and I will endeavour to answer your questions. 1)Yes you will be able to camp on site on the Berry Showground. Unfortunately we cannot get power to your vans. 2) Yes you would all be placed together. We are having entertainment on the Friday and Saturday nights at the Berry School of Arts but we are full to capacity at this time. We would be happy to provide your group with a barbeque tea on the Friday night and as there are many halls available on the showground you could all gather and have your own get together at one of these halls on the Friday Night, remember this is Friday 13th so you may want to have a dress up theme. 3) The Saturday night I could arrange a tea for you at either the Bowling Club or one of the Hotels at a discounted price. 4) There is a $12 per night camping fee which we have no control over. This is charged by the Berry Showground Management. 5) You will be able to participate in all events held at the Showground and there will be no cost to you to attend Rally. 6) Berry is a lovely little heritage town full of little shops, cafes, restaurants, antiques and boutique shopping. It is only a few ks from many beaches and tourist sites. 7) We are limited to the number of vans we can accommodate. We have 2 vintage vans that have already indicated they will be coming. 8) If you decide to attend do you have a banner we could display for you. P.S I have just spoken to our organiser for the School of Arts who tells me we may be able to fit you in for the Friday night function but we will not know for certain until the New Year. Please do not hesitate to email me if you require any more info. Beryl[glow=red,2,300]Also following is the most recent newsletter that Beryl has sent out to all the Caravan Club Members - I have included it to give you all an idea of what events are being planned[/glow] NSW ASSOCIATION OF CARAVAN CLUBS 2009 RALLY, BERRY SHOWGROUND 13TH, 14TH AND 15TH MARCH 2009. HOSTED BY SHOALHAVEN CARAVAN CLUB AND PROUDLY SPONSORED BY HAYMEN REESE WE WISH TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND THANK HAYMAN REESE FOR THEIR GENEROUS SPONSORSHIP AND SUPPORT OF THIS RALLY. WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH THEM TO MAKE THIS RALLY A MOST ENJOYABLE AND SATISFYING VENTURE FOR US ALL.
Site costs will be $15 per night for powered and $12 per night unpowered. Site fees will be payable by cash or cheque only to the Berry Showground Management on your arrival.
We are endeavouring to make the 2009 rally a most enjoyable and entertaining one and trust that you will come to Berry and have a fun filled, happy and friendly week-end.
We are just a little club compared to many, and all our members are committed to hosting a friendly, and fun packed rally.
We will endeavour to place clubs together where possible.
There are sufficient toilets and water outlets on the showground for the expected crowd.
As showers are limited at the showground we will be bringing in extra portable showers. We are happy to say that the Berry Showground Management Committee has agreed to meet the cost of hiring these extra showers.
Friday and Saturday nights dinner and entertainment will be at the Berry School of Arts which is only 100 metres along Alexandria Street.
We will have security to patrol the Showground while we are being entertained at the School of Arts.
A definite programme has not been put together for the State Rally as yet but you may be interested to know a few ideas we hope to include. **Hayman Reese is endeavouring to have a guest speaker from ‘TOW-ED” to talk on safe towing on Sat afternoon.
**Hayman Reese is also very happy to give a free appraisal of your rigs. **We hope to have a display of Vintage Caravans and Cars.
**We are very excited to have as a guest speaker on Friday evening Darren Flanagan the explosives expert who was successful in blasting to within 30 cm of Brant Webb and Todd Russell to release them from their underground hell in the Beaconsfield mine disaster. Darren is an inspiring speaker who will take you down to the depth of the mine with him as he describes to you the fear, exhaustion, comradeship and relief felt by all the rescuers. His story will amaze and astound you.
**A Concert by the “Shoalhaven Show Biz Kids”
**The Spinners and Weavers will open their hall at the Showground to display their craft.
**A Historical walking tour around Berry, with a stop over at the Old Berry Courthouse and its wonderful gardens. It goes without saying we will have all the regular things, Flag Raising, Disc Bowls , Trading Tables, Morning and Afternoon teas and of course HAPPY HOUR.
Friday is also Black Friday, Friday the 13th. So please be careful of black cats and ladders. We are told the only way to ward off bad spells is to wear a witches hat on Friday evening.
Friday’s happy hour will be in the School of Arts from 5 pm with entertainment and a sing-along. Dinner will be served at 6pm.
All eskies etc must be left in the foyer and not taken into hall. We suggest putting all drinks etc into one car and taking it to the hall for your group. It is only a short walk from the showground to the hall. **Sat night we want you to put on your dancing shoes and come along to a dinner dance at the School of Arts. Even if you don’t dance I know you will still enjoy the wonderful singers and music we have planned to entertain you. The Theme will be “Think Pink” or “True Blue”. We have a couple of our members who have recently recovered from Breast Cancer, and quite a few of our fellows have had major prostate problems and cancer. I’m sure our club is not alone in that, and we felt we wanted to do something to highlight the need for more research into these dreaded diseases that effects so many of our friends, and relations. You may come dressed head to toe in pink if you like or top to toe in blue. Or you could just wear a pink or blue tie, a hat, shoes, handbag, shirt or just wear a pink or blue ribbon or flower in your hair, whatever you like to keep with our “Think Pink or “True Blue” Theme”.
We will have donation boxes in the hall, Pink for Breast Cancer research and Blue for Prostate cancer research. This is a voluntary donation but we would be very pleased and grateful if you could make a small donation to these worthy causes.
We are sorry to say that all the powered sites have now been booked. We are endeavouring along with the Berry Showground Committee to have more power made available but we cannot promise any club that booked late that they will have power.
We have been amazed and thrilled at the response from clubs to the Rally. Maybe this is because of the great time we all had at Narrabeen this year. We have had 23 clubs booked so far which is we believe, a record.
We are sorry for those clubs and members who have missed out. Maybe the format and venues have to be looked at for future State rallies so all that wish to come, can attend.
Of Course there is still a way to go before the Rally but Shoalhaven Club will be holding a Rally at the Showground from the Monday 9th through to the start of the State rally. We are looking into quite a few fun things for that week so anyone who is booked to come early is more than welcome to join us.
We will be attending a musical at the Nowra Entertainment Centre on the Wed night the 11th March 09 called: ‘MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL’. BY ALL REPORTS THIS MUSICAL IS HILARIOUS, a 90 MINUTE ONE ACT LAUGH-A--THON. Nowra is a 20 minute drive from Berry.
If any club or individual would like to join us at this concert tickets ($30) can be purchased online at www.shoalhavenentertainment.com.au. Tickets are now on sale. I also have reserved some very good seats if you wish to contact Beryl about these.
Could all those clubs that have not given Secretary Beryl your arrival and departure dates please do so as soon as possible as we need to work out sites at the Berry Showground. We realize that these dates may change as the rally gets closer and you may wish to come for longer or cut your stay back but we do need to have something to work on so that we can work out site locations.[glow=red,2,300]That's heaps of info for everyone so you should all be able to decide if you are able to make it or not. Beryl asked whether we had a banner or not. I suppose that begs the question "Daggesy & Carrots" are you going to be down Berry way in March? I know that you are heading down south soon, perhaps you will be back on your way north around that time? Regards Di[/glow]

Hi Di Thanks for the update.
Happy to camp without power for Fri, sat and sund.
Not too sure if i will get involved in any singalongs, dress ups etc..( although it has been known to happen spontaneously) but our very own shed for "happy Hour" will be nice if it rains.
I read that 2 vint vans are already booked?? How do i/we make a confirmed booking?? Do you want to co-ordinate our numbers or do those that have expressed interest in showing the rest of the caravanning world what caravanning is really all about make contact with this mob and book with them??
If we are to deal with the caravan club ... what is there contact details. It doesnt appear in the correspondence..... or have i missed it somewhere???

Hi Reddo,
I know that there is an application form that all the caravan club people have needed to fill out. But i'm not certain if that applies to us as we will be on display. Perhaps we can just email Beryl.
I have emailed her to ask the question. Also I will ask her who the 2 people are who have already contacted her.
Onve I find out the procedure i'll let you all know. I won't coordinate this one as I don't expect to be there. Unfortunately as much as I would love to attend - that weekend clashes with Chryslers On The Murray and we will be there.

But wonder of wonder, Alan said that he might give Chrsylers on the Murray a miss next year - so i've made a booking with Beryl just in case.
