A great weekend indeed! Funny though, something Reddo and I (and others) were struck by was the terrible blandness of the "sea of all white" modern vans that surrounded us. One wonders if modern van manufacturers are missing a marketing opportunity as far as adding a stripe or a colour or two, to their vans, instead of the minimum required to maximise the profits. I enjoyed very much, talking to all the grey army veterans of caravanning who visited our VVs and congratulaions to Beryl on a great weekend. My wife brought my mum down on sat and she was thrilled to look through all the old VVs'. Like Reddo , I hope our northern cousins can be there in Ballina next year. Perhaps they could raise a VV T shirt in place of a flag at the opening ceremony!!! regards......

HI All.,,
looked like a good weekend. You think they will ever learn that you dont need to spend a gazillion bucks on a great jap junker 4 wd & new van to go anywhere??
I would reckon that very few of our vans owe us more than around $15,000, & thats allowing for a fair bit of paymant for our own (non paid) labour. Our towcarcars generally are under $40k, ( with exceptions). Whenever I've asked why buy such an enormous rig at your age, the standard answer appeares to be "well thats what my friends that have gone caravanning have told me they must have.
If only we could promote the fun Daggsey & Carrots, Lovshack & Pat, Brian & Sandra Noble, Will & Lyn, Tuckies, etc, have had travelling long distances with old vans & cars.
We will be at whatever park their event is at next year up here, provided id doesnt conflict with something we've previously arranged
And we will have 2 vans on dispay from us, Plus hopefully a few from you northerners.

There's not too much more to add to the above comments, yes it was a fab weekend even though we were vanless & felt naked!!! And yes Reddo everyone found out what a hot place Berry is.
It was good to finally meet some of the forum member's & we apologise for not returning Saturday evening which we had planned to, but our daughter was a bit knocked around from the heat & had been fluey so we ended up calling it a day.
We had a great time with great vans & great people, & thanks for the great history lesson Jennison, you made my day!
PS: Haven't heard any news yet but everyone must have cleared out just in time as the road was blocked for 3 hours after lunch time. I figured there must have been a massive crash as 3 ambo's, 3 support vehicles, the rescue squad & later a helicopter went screaming past.
Kaz & Adam.

Looks like a great event everyone. Thanks to Reddo for posting the pics. I especially like the night shots! A nice take on the usual, although you need some floodlights to achieve the result. Now there's a possibility - an annual 'best V V pic' award...what do you reckon? A bit "clubby" or worth consideration? Trouble is we'd have to compete against Papa Razzi and Mama Razzi which would be no mean feat. Don Ricardo

Yo Yup .. a good weekend. Dennis. Without degenerating into the old Jappo 4wd debate again . I reckon most of the people involved in the van clubs are now at an age where they just want to hook up thier vans and go . They have " been there done that" with their older cars and vans in years gone by and have worked hard all their life to set them selves up so that they are both financially comfortable and "travel comfortable'. To achieve that they buy Toyotas, Nissans, Mitsubushi 4WDs that have 5 year warrantys and have reputable dealer back up right around Australia. By the time ya hit 65 ya dont wont be hanging over a mudgaurd of an old clunker trying to fix a mechanical problem in "Godknowswhere". I can think of nothing worse than planning The Retirement Big Trip all your life , finally setting off and being stuck somewhere waiting for a almost unprecurable part for a 50 year old car to be shipped/flown/posted to you ... or for the local 20 year old mechanic that know "JS" about your car to repair it.. So...... While we are younger and more agile... for sure,, lets mess with the old cars and vans and soak up the attention and enjoyment that brings. But .. accept that the older caravanning fraternity have earnt the right to an "Easy passage". Jennison .. Both Matilda and Rosie where white when i bought them. . They didnt stay that way for long Walking amongst all that "Whiteness" sort of gave me snow blindness. Damn hard on the eyes if ya had to sit amongst it all day. True.. would be good if the van manufacturers took a leaf from the vintage caravanning book and finshed the vans in a few subdued pastil colours . They looked like a paddock full of Dandelions ... or................ tombstones Fact: White is the easiest colour to keep clean on a car of van. Reddo

Hi Reddo,
OK i accept what you say about the reliability of the big 4wds. I'll leave it at that, because whatever else i write ends up sounding the same as my previous comments.

Hi guys,
Another great weekend away with the VV crew. Its been a while since mine was out, so great to get away in it and motivated again to apply the finishing touches.
I must admit i had a few laughs over the weekend as i learnt first hand what a Caravan Rally is all about. Berryl waking us all up with "Rise & Shine Caravanners....." and everyone making their way to the grandstand with mugs in hand! I like the VV way better.
Lowlights, Berryl waking me up on Sunday morning with the usual line after a mix of Toohey's & Chiva's.
Highlights - Jeff taking the time to show me the documentation and telling me about his Grandfather's business.
Looking forward to getting away with you all again soon.
Rob, love the photo's. Dont quit your day job! My pics are the same quality of Rob's, naturally ;D but nothing new than whats been posted!
Ciao Ciao, J-Rod.
PS I think Kingy is trying to tell his left nipple to be more like his right one!

jg66rob Those photos are bloody great mate. Dunno what ya do for a crust but i suspect ya have twidled wiyth cameras for quite some time.. Was that you sculking around the paddock early sunday morning with the tripod. For years i have staggered. fell, tripped over tent / annexe ropes trying to get that elusive "Cluttered old caravan park look" You have achieved that as well as capturing all our vans in remarkable "crispness". The picture of Geoff with his hands on his hips and all of the vans in the .background is great I felt guilty after posting my pixs and realising i had missed an few of the vans that where ther on that weekend. Thanks for filling that "Void" I am bloody hopeless with these new digital cameras and i mess with "forced flash on" "red eye " .... ( a big problem for us drunks the morning after"..) .... "auto focus ... ( another problem for us drunks the morning after).. What i ... being born in the fifties found... is the big bonus is that ya can walk around with a dismal..... OOOPs digital camera and reel off happy snaps by the hundreds . Wake up next morning and "Delete" the ordinary / totalstuff ups ... and keep the "GOLD". Far bettewr than walking ito the chemist shop with a 24 shot roll of instamatic film and finding out that 18 of your 24 shots where of peoples left arm and sky .. or their foot and and double pluggers.. The othewr 6 where either totally over exposed .. or the flash didnt work. Ahhh ....Photography... something i will practice when i give up socialising at Vintage caravan meets..... ummm... no..... by then i will have joined a caravan club... ...YEAH RIGHT REDDO Oh bye the way ... The Kingy picture with finger pointing at shaved melon.......:.. "Quick reddo.. plug the 12volt inverter in here.. the solar panel is putting out 12 volts" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Reddo
