Some of you may have noticed that I have not been on line for a few days, well here is the reason why, and please if there is anyone out there who is going up a ladder regardless of how small the job is please please please tie it off at the top. This happened at 5.30 pm Friday, picked up by Ambulance half hour later, at the hospital by 6.30 pm, x-rays and cat scans half cast on left leg and admitted, got home today at 2.00 pm, end result two badly sprained ankles with multiple fractures to the heel bone on the left foot, only damage thank god, i would normally tie my ladder off but on this one occasion it was only a five minute job, now I'm stuck here for 6 - 7 weeks with no weight bearing on left foot then off to see Orthopedic surgeon for the final discission, I consider myself very lucky as it could have been a lot worse, take care guys.

JBJ Silly bugger!!! heard that before ;D as for getting older I will have to be more carefull otherwise I'm not going to get much older am I? Yes Gordon there was another member who did similar but they came off worse that I did if I remember. All in all I think I will repair over time even if it is slowly.

Hi Derk, I've just showed this to my better half. He's always clambering around on the ladder. Thanks for the heads up. Hope you heal quickly. Not nice to be in plaster over summer. Barbara B

Gee - is the ladder OK? ;D ;D ;D ;D
I know this may be a silly question, but how do you tie a ladder off at the top without climbing up it???
Hope you get well soon, and that you finished the job before you fell off!

Hope you get well soon, and that you finished the job before you fell off! 1/ Ladder is fine, have already been asked that one ;D 2/ Yes it does seem wierd that you need to climb the ladder to tie it off BUT you set your ladder once climb it once and tie the ladder off to what ever it is against so that you can climb and decend as many times as you like and can do what ever you want at the top without the ladder moving and falling as mine did, when your done you go to the top untie the ladder and decend for the last time and put your ladder away, unlike me where it still lays where it fell cos I can't walk down there to put it away but one day I will.

G'day Humpyboy
Sure sorry that happened, but glad to hear you are home again, looks like lotsa bruising too. At least you're young enough to heal quick, not like this old bloke who has to be more careful with age & we don't heal so quick.
Well, hope to see you around noon on Thursday & check what the damage is, good to see you back on here

G'Day Derk ( aka Silly Bugger ) Mate........ The things people do to get out of doing a bit of maintenance around the house..... ;D Throwing yourself off the ladder was a bit extreme.... I know hindsight is a wanderful thing but.. ....now that ya have all this time on your hand you can surf the net for some of those "gutter grabbers" that clamp either side of your ladder and prevents it from sliding sideways while your scampering up and down . Not sure if the ladder went sideways when you came down in a heap .... or.. you done "a triple turn with pike as it fell backwards away from the wall ... either way ya just gunna have to practice your landings:P 8 out of 10 for degree of difficulty 1 out of 10 for execution of dive Wishing you gods speed with the recovery. Get well soon. Regards Reddo

Gee Derk< I was visiting your neighbours last Sunday (Graeme and Betty), so I could have jumped the fence and been the first to tickle your toes ;D ;D ;D Yep, I think you came off better that that other member as far as fractures go, but it IS a great reminder for us all, to never take gravity for granted. All the best with your recovery. Ray

Hey Derk,
sorry to hear of your misfortune, but it could have been much worse.
Mate of mine fell off a ladder a couple of years ago and died. Terrible waste of a life. Such a nice guy cut down in his prime.
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE FOLKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
