Derk, What a relief to get that cast off still got a few bruises to get rid of yet I see from the photos you sent thorough. Sounds a bit soon to be heading off to work on 18th, but you might get mobile quicker than one would think, guess you need to have a goal to aim at Anyway, good progress. I have another week or so landscaping to do before getting into my shed with the vans, it's getting closer Cheers Ron

Yes Ron I to was by the fact he was sending me back so soon but he is the Surgeon and I'm happy to be able to start putting weight back onto it even if it is only a small amount, I sent off a referal to the Physio today so am waiting to hear back from them as to when they can fit me in but for now I sit here and do my own little exercises by rotating and stretching my ankle as best I can to keep it loose, it is working for now but the ankle gets quite sore with to much weight so I'm keeping that at a minimum for now.

Had my first visit with the physio today, got some extra stretching exersises to do and what they can an over boot (used over a cast) so I now have something to put over my fat foot,so we now wait till the end of the week and see if I'm still good to go as far as work goes.

Hi Derk
Well, you'll probably have better luck using a ladder with trees if you don't lean it on the end of the branch you're sawing. ;D
Just kidding - glad you are on the mend! Carley

G'day all, have had a bit of a set back, third and forth day at work proved to be more difficult so took myself of to my own GP who was baffled by the fact the Surgeon didn't bother with a follow-up X-ray or even bothered to send me back to work on reduced hours or light duties, the first thing my GP wanted was an X-ray which was taken on the Thursday arvo and he gave me a couple of days off, went back last Monday and he discovered Two fractures that had not yet healed completely so, you guessed it here I sit for the rest of the week till I go back again next Monday, everybody and I MEAN everybody that I have spoken to from Physio's to Radiolgists have been dumb founded by the fact there was no follow up X-ray at the minimum, Specialists?? Yeah right.

I do hope you get well soon. 7 weeks is alot of downtime. Thankyou for reminding us of the dangers and to take the time it takes to ensure the ladder is safe and steady. I was painting etch primer on my caravan roof on Christmas Eve with a paint brush and I started to rock and roll on the ladder. Next thing me and the ladder fell down and in an effort to save a tin of etch primer I jumped jarring my legs badly and ending up with grey etch primer from top to toe, all in my hair, everywhere - I had to put my clothes in the rubbish bin. I got off very lightly but lesson learned. We could all remember to do it safely more often. I do hope you recover soon.

So you don't need to be up a tree hey? yes you were lucky, even with the damage I ended up with I still consider myself very VERY lucky as it could have been a lot worse than it is on two counts 1 my age the other other my bulk

Well I saw my GP again today, asked me how it felt and asked my thoughts on how it was progressing, told him that it does ache after I have been up on it but then if I sit down for a bit it soon passes, he feels that by now the bone has healed as good as can and my pain is coming from the soft tissue damage and the fact it hasn't had any weight on it for so long, long story short, he asked what i thought and I replied that I would like to give work another shot, at worst if it gets to bad I can come see him again and we can re-assess so he agreed to let me go back and try, so tomorrow I'm off to work again, went to the Historic races down at Philip Island on Sunday and spent a half hour or more looking at the cars on display and made it through that so we'll see how I go, I did have one special question for him though,"am I able to drive a manual car?" I think so he said, you beauty I can get my FJ back out of the shed again.

Hi Derk
Glad to hear you're on the mend - and ready for a manual. Remember to take it slow while you're finding your feet after so long. No sense rushing it and getting set back again.
Very pleased to hear your good news, Carley

Thanks Carley, will be easing back into slowly, don't ask me why but I'm really only doing the boss a favour, as it is he don't care if I spend the whole day on my a**e as he is 3 people down at the moment so figured I'd help out if I can.

Hi Derk,
You have to stick with it, & one day it will be all OK & fixed. At least thats what my doctors say. I guess thats as true a statement as you will ever get from a doctor. But having said that, I acknowledge we would be totally stuffed without those hard working & tolerant guys & girls.
So nearly 2 years after my heart bypass operation, I spent yesterday in hospital getting an electric shock to try to get my heart rythm running properly
So what do the doctors say when you ask them a question???
"Dont ask me, I'm only a doctor""
But its still all fun (I think)
Just got to find where my motivation is hiding, & beat it into submission & get the mongrel back to work.
I'm looking forward to our next caravan trip, & I reckon the patient one is very deserving of getting out & about again.
JBJ

One step at a time hey JBJ, doesn't seem to matter what one has it all takes time to get over, I hope it settles down and behaves itself for your sake, I'm sure I'll get over mine in time.

Time for an update, into my fourth week now with 2 on 1 off and 2 on again, so far so good and I can get through my 2 days ok, but and there is always a BUT, every now and then it gives me buggery, like tonight, have to use the crutches if I like it or not, yesterday I spent some time out in the shed with the odd break to rest the foot and today it wasn't to bad but tonight when I went to my car club meeting I could have almost walked in unaided but when it came time to go home, well I couldn't put any weight on it and it is quite sore now so will see how it is in the morning and go from there.

Thanks Tory, it's been a long long haul so far but I'm starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel, at least I'm now able to get out and do a few things rather than just sitting here slowly going crazy.
