You can see, even with the extra huge donut of wood, it's still slightly too long. I've bought new light sockets which are fractionally shorter than old ones I have but it still doesn't work.

Sgtl, I've used some 12V sockets inside my van that I bought from an ebay seller in Asia. There are three types: a) BA15S - single terminal globe where the socket housing becomes the earth (see listing ) b) BA15D - parallel double terminal where an earth lead is provided (see listing ) c) BAY15D - offset double terminal for twin filament globes (see listing ) I can measure the height of the ones I have tomorrow, if you like, to see if they are lower in height than the socket you bought. You might be able to fit the ones like I've got through a hole from the back, and then screw your timber baseplate to the ply on the van. Then you would have to somehow fit your lamp covers to the outside of the baseplate. Just by-the-by... a couple of months ago I did a search for 'vintage tail lights' and one of the results was this interesting tail light combination on a van in the UK... Can't say I've ever seen anything like these lights on a van on this forum. Pity we couldn't get hold of something like these, huh?! There's a couple of names on the amber lens and the reflector, but I can't quite make out what they are... cheers, Al. Edit: Let me just have another go at resizing that second photo ...

Hi I used these on the TD ... Similar "grouping" of tail/stop/ indicator lenses as those from England in a vertical set up I found a set at a swapmeet. Put a picture of them here on the forum and... Kaybees trumped me with a pair of N.O.S surrounds. Hillman.. or possibly vanguard Reddo

Reddo, I absolutely love the tail lights on your tear drop. Unfortunately they aren't an easy find! Are they recessed into the van at all? Meanwhile, I've wasted some more time this morning when I should be doing the accounts I think this might work? www.ebay.com.au/itm/281113824111?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649Holden Ford Chrysler Kit Car Hot Rod Amber Beehive Lamp Units NEW. Also available in red and clear, double or single filament. Email or phone inquiries 0397351446. And they say available in single & double filament & red And have chrome surrounds. And in Australia

Hi,
I've found that Spares Galore in Melbourne generally have good stock Of NOS & used pommie lights & bits. 03 9758 3644 Generally reasonably priced I believe from experience in past purchases from them. As Reddo said, the lights he used are probabably 57/58/59 vanguard. But I have found that it is possible with Spares Galore to make contact with someone there, then email that person a picture of what you want. I then ring back after a couple of days, while it is fresh in their mind, & nearly always find what I was looking for, & get on a good friendly basis with the sales person.I also believe its by far the best to try to buy using personal contact using old fashioned telephone contact mixed with polite good manners, rather than the totally impersonal texting or ebay enquiries. Maybe thats why I generally find what I am trying to buy , as against wondering why no one wants to reply to me because I typed one letter of the part number or description out of sequence.

JBJ That's a good point you have made there Dennis.... Conversation.. weather it be face to face or on the phone with the "spoken word" can be the difference between a good "Parts Shopping" experience" and a bad one. It gives the company confidence in knowing that they are not ... in most cases .. dealing with a time waster. Too much anonaminity ( is that a word... if it aint it will do... you know what I mean) in Text and emails. Plus it gives you the opportunity to describe to the dude on the other end of the phone .... in your own words .. or .. analogies / comparisons with what you are after. Took the EH Van to the radiator mob I deal with today. discussion got around to texting etc...apparently one of the modules being taught at tech nowadays is.." face to face dialogue / communication" Must have something to do with when a customer walks into their business in the future they will be able to hold a conversation with them and discuss the customers wants and needs... I think they call that "Good old fashion service " dont they Back to the tail lights on the TD.. SGTL.....yes .. they do stick through to the inside of the van .. a bit. Regards Reddo

JBJ ....cross them off your list Dennis ,they closed a while back and much of their stock was scrapped. Some of it went to Auto Surplus in Mitcham ,so it might be worth trying them in future ,cheers and I hope this post works......

Humpty, you are a right champion! www.holden.co.uk/displayproduct.asp?sg=1&pgCode=010&sgName=Electrical&pgName=Lighting&agCode=0042&agName=Rear+Lamps&pCode=010.466#Flat Base Rear Brake Lamp Single Filament Supplied as a Brake Lamp with 12 volt 21 watt festoon single filament bulb (for replacement refer to LLB273). They require only two holes for the fixing screws (these are the earth connection) and one for the wire Part-no. 010.466 Colour: Red Pack-size: each Stock: In stock Price: £12.48 (ex VAT) I agree with everyone on the art of conversation. Very few have responded to my email enquiries on eBay, although I'm not going to ring the UK or US . I guess they get so many time wasters that they just don't bother to follow up I think the adage 'the minority ruin it for the majority' has become reversed & it's 'the majority of nitwits out there ruin it for the decent minority' Thanks everyone on here who has helped a technically/mechanically challenged member with her latest troubles. I'm not sure how I feel, about becoming a 'senior member' today. think I preferred God Almighty

Well done SGTL ,
Let us in on the secret... where did you find 'em... did a forum member come to the rescue ?
AND Mr. MODERATORS.... Do you reckon this entire thread would look good if it was tacked on to the end of the 'Stop, turn, tail lights' thread that is sticky in the tech section (That is If SGTL doesn't mind)
Cobber.

The lights came from Vanguard Wholesalers. I thought they only had one, so asked them to let me know if they got another & bingo, they had 2 I also bought whole beehive assemblies with correct globes etc from them & just transferred to old assemblies. More than happy for thread to be tacked on to 'Stop, Turn, Tailights'. When I get a minute, I will change the links to photos so they stay there for the future.

hi all
all sgtl's posts have been merged into the stop/tailights thread in the technical section.
there's no need to re-define any photo links - they automatically re-link.

Thanks Conti, it was the ebay & web site links that I was referring to. They may not be there in the future when someone is researching tail lights! i have added pics & sellers description except for one mob that were extremely difficult to deal with

Hi I used this guy for all the campbells lights, lenses, bases, rubbers, lamp holders I needed for The Walsh van- "Rosie" and The Supalite -"Old Blue". He has a wide range of gear. Not just lights but also generators, regulators etc, etc for vintage and classic cars. He had the business for sale ... operating from home the last time I dropped in. A shed about 100ft x 40 ft
Antique Auto Electrics 30 Billington Road Jilliby NSW ( Near Wyong) Phone Phill ....02 43571776 I have a second number as well....02 43511968
If he has sold the business he may be able to steer you onto who has all the stock nowadays???.
Another bloke up in QLD who specializes in Lucas stuff. I came across him when I was looking for a correct wiper motor sector gear for the 54 F100. "Kev the Lucas Man" - 07 54944221

On the way to Broken Hill Nationals, with the headlights & tail lights on all the time, I managed to cook the lens in both of the Swampvans Campbell CC25SA tail/stop lights. We have had THIS BLOKE'S business listed in the vintage parts suppliers list for some time and his business address is about 15 minutes from where I live so....I thought I should go and suss him out. I rang him and said I wanted a couple of Campbell tail light lenses, could I come and see what he's got ? When I got there he had the lens for these side marker lights sitting on the bench so..... if you need them he's got them. NOTE ! As of 10th October 2015 David is unable to handle small retail orders unless I (Cobber) am able to pick the items up from David and deliver them to you in the event we might be attending the same vintage van rally at some time. For me this won't be a problem Alternatively, you might like to look at AUSSIE EDS web site, a retailer who David supplies lens to. The lens on the right is my old lens. He didn't have what I wanted in stock but... I had a faded yellow Campbell lens in good shape that I lent him and he made a mould from it and knocked out two red lens in a couple of days. A very obliging easy to get on with sort of bloke who makes lenses for American cars and ships 'em over to American retailers so....... maybe if you buy your lens from the US of A it might have been 'made in Australia ' Cobber.

Hi Cobber
Pleased to see there was a good result with this supplier, he was giving out samples at an event I attended recently and they seemed to be almost unbreakable, whatever they are made from.
Interesting that your lenses melted, that seems like some serious heat, I've had those lenses on trailers in the past and never had a problem.

G'day George, Yes those Campbell lights are two filament,( stop and tail 20/5 W ) so you would say the bulb must be reversed in the holders to build up sufficient heat, and it's quite possible because the bulbs have equal pins, but I've checked and rechecked I'm wondering if the tail lights were on all the time ( which they were) how long would the stop lights have to be on as well to build up that sort of heat, a plurry long time I would of thought. I'll have to do some investigating so it doesn't happen again Cobber.

Hi Cobber. You could drill a 1/16" hole under lens to release heat build-up.Yep,might get some dust in from time to time but that only takes a couple of minutes to wipe clean & you still have good lens. gordon

Thanks Gordon, The bloke who made the replacement lens reckons under the same circumstances the stuff he makes them with might go soft, but regain their shape when cool but... I'd rather find the source of the excessive heat, 5 watt shouldn't generate that much heat Cobber.
